MAX Media Player for DS

This is going to be the greatest add-on in the history of the handheld. MAX Media Player turns your Nintendo DS into a powerful home entertainment device, with movie playback, music on the move and a convenient picture viewer.

At the heart of MAX Media Player for DS is Datel’s exclusive MAX Media Player. Just insert the cartridge into your DS’s game slot, and boot up our fully featured browser. From here, you can play your MP3 audio tracks, watch videos and view your JPEGs on your DS’s screen. You can even use the browser to activate executable programs!

But where do you store all this media? Simple. MAX Media Player for DS comes supplied with a 4GB hard drive unit, which you plug into your DS’sGBA cartridge slot. It draws its power directly from the DS – no additional batteries are needed. And 4GB is a lot of storage space. Enough, in fact, for up to ten full-length movies. Or over a thousand music tracks. Or thousands of digital pictures. Or numerous other file types, such as data programs and executables…

But how does it work? Well, first of all, you connect your MAX Media Player HDD unit to your PC with the USB cable supplied. Open the Media Manager PC application (also supplied), and use it to transfer your media to the 4GB hard drive. It’s easy – the PC application even converts movies to a format your MAX Media Player can understand, and resizes your digital images so they fit perfectly on the DS screen. Now you can kill time on that long journey by watching movies on the move or listening to your favourite sounds. You can take your digital holiday snaps round your granny’s or down the pub without printing them out too!

MAX Media Player uses the USB 2.0 protocol, so it offers great transfer speeds. It’s out in late March for a mere £129. Bargain!

Thank God someone finally did this. I've been wanting a device to do Flash Memory stuff, so this is a plus. :)

Bargain? LOL yeah, right...

Hmm, very expensive, and doesn't seem to do anything that can't already be done on the DS, either through a GBA-MP or a flashcart and Moonshell. The only difference is a hefty 4GB memory

so, essentially, you get the good game library of the DS with the functionality of a PSP gigapak for $50 less and 3 more gig of memory...hmm... oh, wait, it doesn't have wireless net, which is hard to use with such limited controls anyway. x_x

Nah, Google it up, typically you can find 1GB stick for the PSP at about $55 a pop (after rebates and instant savings).

Well I have Moonshell, except I never use it.

Somehow I figure the DS should just be about gaming and that's that. A rather old fashioned view, seeing how modern kids thesedays demand a small media center.

I think Cmtz was actually talking about a Gameboy Advance flash cart; those typically do go for about $100 per gig.

Sweet, I need a DS first though. Hopefully it will be compatible with the DS lite.

DS is far better suited than PSP for that particular application when it comes to controls.

The 4GB storage space sounds very, very nice to me. I've been looking at some way to try to get into emulation on the DS and this could well be it.

yea- i agree with that too but - if your going to use off the self parts - its kind of hard not to utilize a feature your already paying for becasue its been built in

i havent looked at any of the hardware on these systems but working with todays electronics i know parts come jam packed with features nowdays. For example im working with a proccesor right now that is jam packed with all kinds things - USB - ethernet - LCD - other controlers - so its kind of a no brainer to say hey lets give this bad boy some extra features at minimal cost

also i think extra features is a big selling point - how about the PS2 playing dvds and the dreamcast only games -- that extra feature was a big deal

I personaly do get a diminished feel when playing games on a multimedia center - but i have to accept it - the good of days of dedicated game consoles (and other electronics) is over (except on high end elctronics)

yup. totally

I like dedicated consoles/electronics too, but those days are over. I don't think it takes away from the original function as it used to tho.
