Anyone else just simply love this game as much as me? I got it for Xmas and admit I thought it would be my least played 360 game, but it ends up its my most played 360 game (I own 9 games) as well as one of my most played games of all time.

I have never been a huge racing fan, but certain arcade racers are quite fun, this being one of them. Theres just something about going 250 mph around a U turn corner that makes this game unlike any other. I have 100% of the world explorer complete (which takes around 50 hours, its a HUGE game) as well as nearly 400 online races. Right now I am working on getting 200 online wins as well as 10,000 miles driven. I have over 72 hours in the game currently and need to invest another 30 or so until Im finaly done with playing it.

If you play this online still and wanna hook up and race send me a friend request. I just wanted to see if anyone else out there finds this to be a little gem on the 360 launch.

It's in my rental queue... As soon as I get it, I'll give it a shot on Live. I'll PM when I get it.

I'm renting it first, cause it got such bad reviews.

I wouldn't say it got bad reviews, mostly 7's. People feel it isn't next gen enough.

I too, was completely hooked once I started playing it.
I got it on launch day, and played it non-stop for 3 weeks. It's one of the most fun racing games I've played in a while, simply due to the gameplay mechanics alone. I haven't played in about a month because I'm back to trying to finish RalliSport 2 right now, but once that's finished, I'll get back on RR6.

If you want to play online, just send me a friend request with a note that you're on the DP forums so I know who you are.

I'm not as hooked as you folks seem to be, but I definitely really enjoy this. There are times, though, where I get into a 'drifting' slump and for whatever reason I can't get my drifts right. As I'm sure I don't need to point out, you pretty much can't win a race without being able to do this (and the game is pretty damn tough to begin with). Anyone have some good drifting advice for a n00b to the RR universe?

Use standard cars. Despite many Dynamic style drifting cars having a bit more overall speed, their drifting style is truly difficult to master.

If you are already using standard cars, then my best advice is to learn the cpurses, and always look at how wide, short, long, whatever kinda turn is coming up next, and learn how much to turn your car to come out of it properly. Once you get good enough you can stay in a drift for multiple turns without having to break out of it, all while maintaining your speed.

Get a PS1 or PS2 and play -

Ridge Racer
Ridge Racer Revolution
Rage Racer
R4: Ridge Racer Type 4 (most important)

Get a PS2 and play -

Ridge Racer V

Just stay far far away from the bastard offshoot of the core series, R: Racing Evolution. Fundementals learned in R4 and Ridge Racer V will help you a lot with Ridge Racer 6.

I really like Ridge Racer on the 360, played it a while back at my friend's store. It really is an arcade racer, very good for pick and play.

I loved the original Ridge Racer that came out on the PS1 around lauch if my memory is on par. It's in a big plastic case, like what the Saturn games come in. I really enjoyed that race game because it's catchy techno music and tracks were so fresh and filled with life for a 32bit system. That was back when the physics for bumping a wall nearly stops you and does no damage... how things have evolved for car games. Rage Racer was a sequal that was nearly the same thing but was a good addition to the courses. I'd like to get the Ridge Racer for the GameCube someday, but we'll see when that happens.

As for the 360 version, I did see some screen shots and some clips of gameplay and must say I love it. Back in the era of the N64 prime life, the Cruising series were top notch to me and I loved them to death. Now it's these "night life" racing games, but it's always the really interesting Namco racers that pull the swing. I know it'll be a great racing title for the 360 with beefy graphics, awesome physics, and crazy courses just like in the original PS version (consule wise).

I got 2 friend requests, anymore are welcome.
Also what reviewers dont realize too is sure the game might not look dazzling, but this game runs at a SOLID 60 FPS, and basicaly NEVER drops below that (unless you are online and more than one person fires off a triple nitrous). But besides that, you can have all 14 cars in one screen in 1 player going 200 mph and the frame rate never drops, its a sight to behold really.

Sure it might not be amazingly beatiful, but to me it gets the job done in the visual department, I mean this is an arcade racer there is no need for vehicular damage that many reviewers complain about. This is ridge racer, not just another liscenced car game.

Had three releases actualy...

Rage Racer was a sequal that was nearly the same thing but was a good addition to the courses.

Rage Racer was the third game in the series which was QUITE an overhaul to circuits, physics, graphics and music. The sequel to Ridge Racer was Ridge Racer Revolution which was a graphical and audio enhancement (best version of Rare Hero - "Rare Hero 2") with a few little tweaks. Later on R4: Ridge Racer Type 4 would be a full overhaul to everything with a cool story-esque mode. Ridge Racer V on the PS2 is really an enhanced remake of the first two games for the most part.

I'd like to get the Ridge Racer for the GameCube someday, but we'll see when that happens.

That mess that was R: Racing Evolution (originally planned as Ridge Racer 6 years before) was released on the GameCube.. what a dissapointment. Not as bad as Ridge Racer 64 though.

It's a very nice looking and entertaining game, don't get me wrong, and it's good to see Namco getting the series back on track. However it's not as great as it could be which makes me think Namco must have something amazing up their sleeve concerning the Ridge Racer and Ace Combat series' on the PS3.

It's cool to see people so interested in Ridge Racer. I've been playing the series forever. The first time I played it was at a Dave & Busters in Atlanta and immediatley loved it. When it came out for PS, that was it for me. :D And by the way; was Rave Racer ever released on any console format?

Any way, I've completed the 100% on the World Xplorer, won each individual race class on each individual track (with and without nitrous) and am currently trying to complete the all classes/all tracks with no crashes. That's a tough one. I've been working on getting 230 online races so all cars will be unlocked. And the 200 Wins bonus is a long way off for me. Of 140 races so far, 20 are wins. @_@ It's easy to be in the top 3, but it's tough to grab that top spot.

So what style car do you prefer? I'm a Standard guy, but I've been trying to learn the Dynamic drifting style.

I used to use mild, but I switched over to standard. Dynamic is just too loose for me, Im sure it can be mastered, but its not worth the effort IMO. Gun and Full Auto have been eating up my time, but I will soon be back on RR6 racing online again, I need to get my 200 wins and 10k miles driven.

I know that the tracks from Rave Racer were in the PSP version. I think they are also in RR6. Not totally sure though.

Boy would I love an arcade perfect bonus disc of Rave Racer ala the Sega Rally 1995 disc that came with Sega Rally 2006 for PS2!

I picked up Ridge 6 with my 360. I don't know where the magazines are getting this "looks like shit" aspect in the reviews because it most certainly looks sharp and clean on a hi def LCD TV. I couldn't understand the negative review in OXM for the life of me. IMO it looks better than PGR3 but not as photorealistic as Most Wanted. There's no doubt that Namco's opening CG movies in the previous Ridge games have always been amazing....but in THIS case the in-game graphics look BETTER than the opening movie!! (I'm finding the same thing with most 360 games actually)

I love the new universe format and it seems that the drifting is more intuitive than it's ever been. I'll agree that the standard cars seem to be the best choice, although if I need an HP advantage I'll sometimes turn to a mild car IF the HP is slightly higher. I'm still trying to decide which of the cars that I've won in "duel" feels most comfortable to use. One thing's for sure....it's starting to get intense. Single boosts don't seem to cut it any more and I'm finding the need to save up at least a double before using it.

I got the 200 online battle win achievement today, only one left for me to get is 10,000 miles driven, currently I have 8,050, so about another 17-20 hours of playtime.

This game got a bad review in Gamepro, but I played it in GAME with a mate of mine and we liked it alot. I also liked the voice over " YO YO NOS BOUT TO EXPLODE DAAYYYYMMM!! WOOOH!!" which people also seem to hate.

if you are reffering to the annoucer, I thought he would annoy the hell outa me, however he just ads to the arcade feel of the game, and often helps you out by letting you know when someone uses nitrous.

Try listening to the other voice annocuers you unlock in the game...they suck.

So... I caved in this afternoon, and picked up my seventh 360 game. How do you pronounce it again, Kaz? "RIIIIIIIDDDGE RACERRRRR!", you say? If you say so!

Damn, I can't believe I sat this one out for so long. Okay, RR6 is by no means a feast of technical wizardy (or anything close, for that matter), but I've always loved the series' hallmark style, executed time after time to perfection. It is simple, but incredibly effective.

The soundtrack, as is always the way, seems spot-on, and the multiplayer is just a blast. I can tell I'm going to kick some serious butt online :) I noticed one quirk, though: I hit a car that was seemingly stuck in the middle of the road (a little underground, too). I'm guessing someone dropped from the race, and the game didn't handle it all that gracefully.

Anyone had this happen to them, too? Besides that, this is simply awesome!

Back when I used to play oneline, people had problems w/ "invisible cars" at the start point, meaning only they could see a car sitting at the start point, and you can hit into it, while other players see nothing.

Online is a blast, and if you happen to play with someone named yosam, tell him PeteDorr said hi, I used to play with him online alllll the time :) if you ever happen to get in a game w/ him send me a game invite.

I'm really tempted to buy all (or most) of the additional music that they've flooded the Marketplace with. It is really annoying that the game doesn't support custom soundtracks, and that each track they've added is 80 points a throw. Expensive!

itobandito
07-19-2006, 05:37 PM
Yeah 80 points is a bit much considering there are TONS of extra music tracks. Are any of those tracks remakes of the original music from RR1?? I got one which I believe is called Ridge Racer but it did not sound familiar. The game I must say is simply awesome. It is my favoirite racer on the system so far. The tracks I feel are so much better than what you would find in the new NFS games. Those are starting to piss me off, they need to go back to where they started with that series exotic cars and unique tracks. oops off topic so yeah the tracks in Ridge racer I feel are really unique, gorgeous and fun. Namco really knows how to make em.
