Definitely excited here too. Can't wait to see the first screens of this too. It's nice to finally see the PSP starting to become a GAME machine :)

I wish these titles would come out on a home console. The psp is just way overpriced and I shouldn't have to pay $50 for a portable game. Not to mention the loading times are bad.
Seems like these titles would sell better if on more then just the psp.
Meh whatever.

Unfortunately, the time for the $50 portable game has come. Back in the day, Gameboy, Gameboy Color, and Game Gear games were programmed by small teams of people, sometimes very small, occasionally even ONE PERSON. Prices for handheld games were cheaper because development costs were a lot less.
I imagine the GBA takes more resources (think Super Nintendo) and the prices are therefore higher.
The DS seems to have roughly the same power as the N64, so we're talking even more development costs.
The PSP... now we're talking portable Playstation 2. LOTS of money and LOTS of people to produce a game, especially an ORIGINAL game. I agree that it sucks to pay high $$$ for ports of PS2 games (or variants thereof) but it seems they set the stage early to take into account the higher developments costs that future PSP games will incur.
I hate the higher prices too too, but today's premium portables are nothing like the old Gameboy and Game Gear systems of olde.
Incidentally, I finally figured out (with MUCH help from classicb, our resident N-Gage guru) how to get emulators to run on my N-Gage. I'm talking MAME, NES, SMS, even SNES. I had no idea it was so damn easy.

Just saw some very blurry scans of this and it looks quite good. Even though you can't make too much out, some of the new levels look good.
Anyone think the PS3 might play UMDs (ie. PSP games)?

Isn't Dark Resurection the name of the Arcade version of Tekken 5?
The game looks cool but the PSP d-pad isn't great for fighting games.

It's a good idea (IMO), but I'm quite certain the answer is a confirmed "no".

yeah but why pay 34+ for gba games, considering the option of getting Playstation, if not semi-ps2 quality graphics, 50 bucks isn't too much to pay, in my book...
to me the real crime is the price of GBA games... those should be 10-20.... in my book.

Cheap, yet fucking hilarious, shot. Well done.
As for the subject of Tekken on the PSP, i'm less then thrilled. Not because i think Tekken is shit, which i do, but because i'm skeptical that any 3D fighting game be done justice on a handheld.
The biggest draw to a fighting game is multiplayer and unless it's easy to hook up and fight it's not gonna be fun.
Until i hear some more info on the game it's just not gonna raise my thoughs on the PSP.
It does look pretty though.

I think I should finally get my psp out of it's box. J/k
Great game. I will more than likely buy this at launch.

I think it looks great. I also think the screen of the PSP is large enough to handle a fighting game in a respectable manner. I played some fighting game on the PSP at Best Buy a few weeks ago and it looked and played pretty darn nicely. ONE (the game) on the N-Gage is pushing it, but TEKKEN on PSP would be nice IMO.
I'd buy it if I had a PSP. I'd also get Twisted Metal. I'd also like a pony.

Actually looks pretty nice, but...
Street Fighter Alpha 3 is out now, and to be honest, Tekken doesn't compare to that.
But I am a sucker for anything SF.

I am going to import this thing and have it overnighted no matter what.
And like I said countless times before. Fighting games are all preferences. Comparing them with other fighting games is like comparing apples and oranges.
Some people like Tekken, some people don't.
I for one, love it. Been playing the series competitively at a high level since Tekken 3. It also helps that my town has one of the largest if not the largest Tekken communities in the USA.

I honestly prefer Tekken games over DOA games which are both decent fighting games

Markman said it best:

I'm not a fan of the left punch/right punch control scheme, but that aside one of the biggest reason i think Tekken is shit is because every Tekken game since Tekken 3 (the last good tekken) hasn't really done much to advance the series.
I love DOA because i enjoy how cinematic the fighting feels. It's a fun game to watch and because i'm was actually willing to learn the fighting system (DOA3 had a shit system by the way) i've gotten good a proper countering and attacking.
I also love virtual fighter even though i suck at it because it feels the closest to real fighting.
Tekken just sort of fails to hit either of those points for me and Tekken 4/5 only made me hate the series more.

I beg to differ; Tekken Tag Tournament was the last good Tekken. :)

I had forgotten about Tekken Tag. While it certainly wasn't as good as Tekken 3 in my eyes, it was certainly better then the shit known as Tekken 4. :)

But Tekken 5 is great. :)

Here are my impressions on it thus far:
http://static.flickr.com/76/182564192_963e5e02b9.jpg
Tekken: Dark Resurrection(PSP) is a really good port thus far.
There are some noticeable differences and of course arcade will always be > this version. But something is better than nothing right?
Some noticeable things:
- Cut scenes during story mode and pre fight animations and round ending animations/win poses seem to be displayed at 30 FPS.
- Network mode has less lag than before. It's good stuff this time around, the KO lag doesn't annoy anymore or leave you guessing whether you won or not.
- Game sharing and playing vs mode with 1 UMD disc is an awesome idea. The initial loading process takes awhile(about 2 minutes) but after it loads the matches are almost instantaneous(if you keep selecting rematch that is).
- There is a tutorial mode when you first boot up the game. It teaches you movement/sidestepping/and basics of gameplay pretty much. That was a good move by Namco to help cater towards people that have never played this title before.
- Endings and Intro CG sequences are amazing. Really top notch stuff from Namco yet again. My favorites being Dragunov's ending(WOW WHO IS THAT!) and Armor King's ending...(classic, pure classic).
