Anyone here playing their 2600's and 5200's on an HDTV? I own a HDTV and I reserve that for systems like the SNES and N64 etc...stuff that I can utilize the S-Video hookup with. I'm kinda reluctant to setup my 5200 on the HDTV because I'm not sure if it will damage the screen at all. And I'm not talking about burn-in, I'm aware of the dangers of that. I'm just wondering if playing those old games are harmfull on an HDTV since alot of the games have static backgrounds and little in the way of moving objects.

I hookup my classic systems to an old piece of crap tv because I'm afraid to hook them up to my nice one. Is that nonsense? Is there nothing to worry about?

you don't have to worry about burn-in or any damage from static images on the new hdtv's. Even most of the older projection (after 1999 i think) solved that problem. Anyone who tells you different doesn't know what they're talking about and will probally tell you to use a screen saver with your computer monitor to save it from burn-in too. LOL

I don't have any HDTV yet but I plan on one as well and I'd like to know if there are any issues. Not the blowing out something but getting stable picture. I do know some people had some trouble using 2600 on certain newer TVs.

Atari 2600 has been around for more than 25 years and I haven't heard of any older 4:3 NTSC TV being blown up yet and I doubt anyone's dumb enough to mnake HDTV prone to blowing up with older NTSC based devices. If that did happen, then the HDTV would have to be marked as defective and not because of a 25 year old technology.

Finally, when I do get the HDTV, I *will* pay someone to install & hook them as I have just about damn near everything hooked up at once to my current TV and I'm not going to bother with miles of wiring behind the shelf.

uh, excuse me- ANY CRT based display can, and WILL display burn in after a length of time. If you dont believe that then leave a static image on screen and turn the contrast to 100 for a couple hours.

if you lower your contrast settings when you play video games you shouldnt have anything to worry about for a long time, unless you play A LOT of the exact same game. this is especially wise when using them on an HDTV, since the sets cost so much.

the only discplays that do not exibit burn in are digital projectors or monitors. examples of those are: DLP, LCD, DILA...

so basically, just be aware that it CAN damage your set, although if you keep contrast settings reasonably low you shouldnt have to worry for years and years....
