Officially announced today. I heard it via4 Color Rebellion (http://www.4colorrebellion.com/archives/2006/02/16/mechassault-ds/#more-2713).
So what do you guys think? Yea or or neh?
I am undecided at the moment. I can't tell if this will benefit from the DS unique controls, or end up kind of like Resident Evil DS.

Oh good god, if this isn't WIFI it will flop terribly. BUT, if it is WIFI, I will buy it as soon as it's out. Man, that looks good to me.

It'll have to be WiFi. There is really no point otherwise since there is no replay value to them. I'll get it either way. I liked both of the Xbox releases and it looks like its taking a page or two from Mech Assault #2 which wasnt perfect, but was a fun game.

wi-fi and the controls will make or break this game, the initial pics look good but I wanna see how the controls are set up to make my final judgement.

It says it in the link in the original post:
In the features section...
"Wireless multiplayer combat for up to four players simultaneously"
Also, no where in the features section does it say online play...does that definitely mean it won't be in the game, no, but I think something that important would be listed as a feature. Hopefully they add it before release.

Looks surprisingly good. Will have to sit on the fence until release - a number of third party DS games look okay and then turn out to be well-oiled turd.

Indeed. I want to see some video footage before I even begin to hope this game is going to be good...Splinter Cell looked good - until the pictures moved (slowly)!

Looks promising, but there's really nothing going on in the bottom screen. Hopefully they'll put it to good use.

Sweet game
is it me or nintendo only titles are wifi, with the exception of tony hawks game. Kinda like an extra hassle yet 3rd parties are satisfied with just getting the game out.

IDK, I think the controls will make or break this game, and if this went wifi I would definitl go and get online with my DS.

If it is full multiplayer download then I'm all over it. Its not like I'll find 4 people with a DS AND this game.

Bleach DS (published by Sega, by Treasure) Wifi and great at it for such an intense fighter, unfortunately it is import only, but my friends and I have played over Wifi with plenty of success.
It is a resource that more companies need to notice though.

Whoa, I bet that the language barrier isn't that hard either. Since ya know, it's a fighting game. I might need to look into that.
I would thoroughly enjoy a taste of Mech Assault on the DS. Those Xbox games were great. (here's hoping that they toss one onto the 360)

Just wondering if anyone else is planning on picking this up this week. Tonight I watched the newwer videos and saw the most recent screen shots. I am really impressed and now looking forward to some portable mech action. It is a shame that the Wifi was not utilized.
Has anyone heard if there is single cart download play?

I would recommend having a read through the MechAssault DS Developer Diary (http://blogs.ign.com/MechAssaultDS/) over on IGN. While I don't remember reading anything about this, you can take a look for yourself. It is probably worth the read regardless, though - and they even answer some submitted questions at the end of each post (some good ones, too).
It almost always encourages me when developers do things like this. It makes me think that the game is going to be - at the very least - half-decent. I'll certainly be importing this (I decided that on day one), though I am pretty sure the reviews will be lukewarm at best.

That is a great blog. I would like to see more along those lines.
I did not see anything mentioning single cart only multi.
Guess I will have to wait until the release this week to find out.

IGN just posted a review.
Multi-cart only. It got a 7.0 for those that care.
Most of the complaints were small. How great do you expect 3d graphics to be on the DS?
If anyone picks this up be sure to post your opinions.

I picked this up Thursday and I am really enjoying it. I have not played the Xbox Mechassault games, so I do not know how Phantom War compares those. I recommend not using the stylus control it is a bit floaty. The reticule turns red when you have an enemy lock, and the weapons will hit so the precise aim like you needed in Metroid Prime Hunters is not required. The missions offer a variety of goals, but most include destroying all opposing forces which is always fun.
Most complaints I have seen about the game involve the graphics. Personally (maybe because I have watched and played through the whole evolution of 3d graphics) I have no problems with the graphics Enemies are clear and things run smooth, smaller enemies such as elementals do experience a bit of pop-up, but it is all incredible for the hardware. I was also really surprised by all the voice work.
So anyone else playing?

I got a copy for free (my company made the game, and I won a contest). Never played a mech game, and I guessed (that like all games we make) it would suck, but I'm actually enjoying this one.
As a hater of modern 3D games, I assumed it'd just be a lame run around and blow stuff up game... and it is, but it's not lame at all. Lots of variety.
I'm not too far into the game (about 4 rounds past the scorpion mech boss), but I think it's a good title.
I am kinda surprised by the lack of online reviews for the game, as IGN's the only site that's reviewed it so far, and it's been out for a week now.
I give it an 8 out of 10.

I have beaten the game once already and I continue to play more. Has anyone gotten a chance to give the multiplayer a go? With all of those options it looks to have great potential.
Why have no other sites reviewed this game?

Ouch, Gamespy gave it a 1.5 out of 5. I somehow think they were expecting the DS to be capable of Xbox quality visuals.

I tried Metroid on the DS and really didn't like it's handling or controls. It's that reason I've held back from buying 3D games like this for the DS. :/

I agree, I also never picked up Metroid after trying a friends copy and much multiplayer, it just never felt right. I think that is part of my surprise with how much I enjoyed mech assault. I did not feel at a disadvantage using the buttons instead of the stylus.
