... incorporate a system where it SHOWS publicly (AFTER the auction is over, of course) the high (i.e. winning) bidder's MAX? I mean, it IS the close of the auction, what harm would it do?

Coz sometimes when I either get outbidded, or forget to bid period, I come away thinking "Gee I wonder how far off I was"... it'd be nice, IMO, to see the winning bidder's max AFTER the auction ends.

Why not? Sure it works as it is now. But I think this would be a neat little feature. Thoughts?

No way. So that some idiot can figure out what you like and punishment bid you if he feels like it? So that people can track your bidding habits? I'll take privacy thanks.

don't me wrong, I think it would be a great feature if no one abused it... but people would abuse it badly IMO.

True, that did cross my mind.

But you know how you can protect yourself? Correct me if I'm wrong but if you ALWAYS snipe... there's no way they can stalk you. Nobody can see what auctions you are currently watching, no? They can't. They can't follow up on you until you make a bid... so if its a snipe they can't trace you until it's too late.

Sadly, there are some losers out there who hold grudges and what have you, but I think it's a pretty extreme (i.e. rare) case of it ever happening. I still say aye.

There sure would be a bunch of sellers backing out. Say something ends at $30 but the seller sees that the high bidder was willing to pay $60 and then starts thinking, hey, this may be worth more than I thought.

I believe the auction bidding system is the way it is for good reason.

good point. I failed to think of that.

Just do what other people do, bid an unreasonable amount to out bid him, look at the bid history then just retract your bid. Unmoral though. But legal and not as obvious if you put $10,000 instead of bidding 4 times trying to out bid the guy then when you do you retract.

I don't approve of it but I see it sometimes.

If I ever see anyone doing that on my auctions, I not only cancel any bids that they have put on the item, I block them all together. Yeah, maybe I would get a bit more if I let them bid but I don't care. I would rather get less $ then deal with a bottom-feeder like that.
(no offense to you XianXi, I see that you don't approve either)

Some guy did that on one of my auctions but it was obvious what he was doing since it was only at $10 and he bid $10 then $11 then retracted when he was the high bidder, so I blocked him.

This was the first thing I thought of after reading the opening post. Sellers either backing out, or trying to extract more from the buyer that just won the auction.

Definately agree with you Bronty. Still a good idea, but guarantee pusishment type bids by losers. I could care less most of the time if I lose, which means I didn't want to pay enough for the item. When I want something really bad, I will usually pay whatever I can to get it.
