Of course, it is Asteroids one of my favorite games of all time and the first that doomed me to this life of gaming.

I played Asteroids for hours and hours and even played 1 game which lasted over 2 days when I was 12.

So, when I saw this one locally and it was mis-spelled, I just had to bite. $275

What do you guys think?

$275 is a good deal for a broken one in that condition, and a great deal for a working one. Congrats!!!

You say that like it's a bad thing. It's not - now you can have both! :)

To me, it is. You mean swap the board out for an Asteroids PCB? Have you ever done that?

I noticed that... is this a bad thing? It's a rarer find, too. 8725 Asteroids cocktails versus 3252 for Deluxe.

Well, I wanted Asteroids, not deluxe as the original is the one I played.

What do you guys think I should do?

I think a PCB for ASteroids would cost me at least $100-150.

What happens if I NPB? If I claim the auction is incorrect (which it is) am I likely to have bad feedback removed and such?

Hey man, if you don't want it, I'll drive there and buy it!

Seriously.

I can pick it up this weekend, too :)

IIRC, our very own stonic has assembled cards that let you switch back and forth between the two games (Asteroids and Ast. Deluxe). Not sure on the details, maybe run a quick search on the Alley forum or wait for him to chime in.

Either way, I'd definitely keep this machine and just get an Asteroids cab later on down the road. :)

Cocktails are cool. They remind me of Pizza Hut for some reason :-P .

Funny... they make me think of Chuck E. Cheeses... :)

Nice looking cab, by the way. Playing on a cocktail cab is certainly a different, yet enjoyable, experience.

I picked up the Asteroids Deluxe today and brought it home. It works perfectly, tho one of the button sticks a bit on the second player side.

Where is a good place to get 10 white buttons for it? Are they a standard size or a particular size I have to look for?

Have you taken the button out and cleaned it? It might just have soda or something stuck in it.

I always buy buttons from Bob Roberts. Everything but original Nintendo buttons are the same size (Nintendo buttons are a fraction smaller), the only thing you'll have to check on is whether they're short or long buttons.

Are you talking about Arcade Restoration Workshop?

Also, I noticed one of the coin slots is backed up with quarters. Unfortunately, that area doesn't flip out iwth a door or anything. I think I'll have to unscrew the plate to take it out and look at it.

Am I thinking incorrectly?

No, that's Brien's (super awesome) website that has a ton of info and tutorials on fixing things up and has links to other sites. Bob Roberts is a game guru from the golden age who also has a wealth of information and sells original parts, there's a link to his site from arcaderestoration.com

I forget -- is it set up so you can't get at it by opening the top of the table?

So, who can I ask to find out which kind of buttons to buy for this thing?

Just open the control panel and pull one out to see what's there, then order whatever matches. If I had to guess, I'd say you probably have short buttons on that cab.

Generally, if the panel is wood, the cab will use the longer buttons. If it's metal and there aren't any spacers in there, it'll use the short ones. Once you've solved the long / short button issue, send Bob Roberts an email about wanting to order 10 white buttons (either short or long) and you're set. :)

http://www.homearcade.org is Bob's new base right now. The move might have something to do with the hurricanes last year. From that link, click on "Big Bear's Bulletin Board" and you should be set. FWIW, I've always ordered from Bob and have always gotten excellent products and service. Bob doesn't take paypal though, so if that's a concern you can also order from Happ at the links CN listed above. :)
