I have zero experience with Sega Saturn arcade sticks and im in the market for one. So does anyone here know which ones are best for fighting games?

I've had two sticks for the Saturn, the ASCII Saturn Stick (picked up about 6-7 months ago for like $8) and the US Sega Virtua Stick.

I strongly dislike the Virtua Stick and have always thought that it felt a bit sloppy. Playing Saturn Bomberman with it was a chore and I never could get the hang of using it in a fighting game.

the ASCII stick, on the other hand, feels great. It's clicky (which may or may not be a good thing for you...some people find it annoying), has a US-style stick (as opposed to the japanese ball top...doesn't bother me but again, it may be an issue with some people), and lacks auto fire (bah, who needs it?), but it's still a damn fine controller for your fighting game and shmup needs.

I've long since retired the Virtua Stick to a box in the basement but I'll only part with the ASCII when you pry it from my cold, dead hands. Recently gave it a nice workout while playing Shienryu and it served me well :)

If you can find a japanese Virtua Stick for reasonably cheap, you could always look into that, too. No idea why the US version is so radically different.

If you want an arcade feel, best saturn stick is the big 2player one in this picture:

Nice set of sticks you have there :)

I have the single player white Virtua Stick, and I think it's pretty damn good for a standard retail stick. The Sanwas are calling me though.....

The official listing would go by: HSS-0130

official SEGA of Japan link:

It's an official SEGA product available in japan. I believe it was limited to 1,000 pieces. It's a beautiful stick with some solid arcade construction. If you're buying it from an overseas source, expect around $100 or more for shipping. Good hunting!

Yeah, modded my official DC stick with Sanwas. I was gonna get the Namco PSone stick, but I'll only end up modding it. Reckon I'll just build a stick and hack a PSone pad.

Isn't there a NeoGeo version of that Hori stick too?
