I was contemplating downloading this and was wondering, is it good or bad? Are there any problems it could cause with my PSP?

It should not cause any problems on your PSP at all.

I downloaded it once, but gave up on it very quickly. If you are into that sort of thing, I can see how it could be cool to play with.

Haven't tried it myself. I've not had any problems with any PSP homebrew. Just find a news post where the latest version of PSPKick was announced and check the comments/related forum thread for opinions.
