Just got back from one of the local Game Stops to pick up the Tales of Legendia guide and saw the Makai Kingdom guide for $9.99 and decided to grab that to.

When the lady was ringing it up, the computer threw a code and she had to get the manager. He comes by and then proceeds to tell me that they cannot sell me the Makai Kingdom guide. It has been delisted and therefore he cannot sell it to me. The other employee then proceeds to pull the other Makai Kingdom guide and Genji guide off the shelf and takes them to the back room. I state that I really desire the guide and wish to pay the marked price. He states that it has been delisted and he cannot sell it to me then he says "Ah hell I'll just give it to you."

So it seems that the Double Jump books will be that much harder to locate. This is not cool as I really like the Double Jump stratagy guides. These books are fine reading material as well as nice guides. I guess I have no choice but to start ordering guides online rather than just stopping by the local game store and grabbing one off the shelf.

Well the hting is that you can buy them online from the website which makes it alot easier in a sense.

I still want to get a couple guides they have, but I know what you mean though.

Generally when GameStop's phasing out strategy guides they mark them down to a penny. Have they stoped carrying Double Jump guides compleatly? Anyone know why?

I think you're jumping to conclusions ("double" jumping perhaps?). The Makai and Genji guides have been out for several months. Maybe it's just time to take them off the shelf and make room for newer guides (imagine that).

Exactly. Its just those guides, they'll still carry DoubleJump stuff I'm sure.

Well, 2 things, first they should have just sold it to you, they were "pennied-out" several weeks ago I believe they just missed the price change which is their fault. its happened to me before and I just say "Hey its your lucky day this is only a penny". But its not that they wont carry any double jump guides anymore its just those were getting older and they needed to make room.

lol, he almost refused to give that guide to you?

I give out penny guides if someone finds them on the shelf. I mean, honestly, I'm not gonna refuse giving it to that person for free.

The Castlevania DS guide is still full price. Just because the guide is virtually worthless doesn't mean anything bad for DoubleJump.

And with Disgaea 2 coming out...

The manager should have just given you the guide. Or at least sold it to you for the $9.99 sticker price.

Welcome to EndlessChris's legal corner. First of all, EB/GameStop have not stopped carrying doublejump guides. It's just that the many DoubleJump guides that have been on the shelf for a while and aren't going anywhere have been discounted down to a penny. The Castlevania DS guide is still full price - Genji, and DDS and Makai are just being taken out of the system.

Now here's why you weren't sold that guide for a penny, and why everyone saying you should've been sold it is wrong. The way books work is like this. When a book is bought from a distributor, the distributor is only paid for the books when they're sold in store. So, by discounting them down to a penny and throwing them out, the store legally does not owe the distributor the money for the guide. If it was sold to you the chain would take a loss, as they would be paying the distributor $5 or whatever for a book they only sold for a penny. That's why we're supposed to take those guides and get rid of them (though often employees just take them home for themselves, ask my free Metal Gear Solid 3 Limited Edition guide about how sweet that system is).

That's why old books have those warnings in them "If this book is missing it's cover call this number or whatever because its stolen." Discontinued books used to have the covers ripped off them to signify that they were not meant for sale any longer.

So there you go.

My best friend of 12 years is a District manager for gamestop... I made the mistake of stopping by the same day all of those guides were pennied out... When i got home, i discovered he had filled my trunk with a wheelbarrow full of guides, there had to be over a hundred of them, all for different games. BTW, most of those ps2 and xbox skins are pennied out too. Trust me...

Geee sorry for "double jumping" to conclusions. I DID get the Makai Kingdom guide - for free. He gave it to me. I had asked about the Dawn of Sorrow guide and he said that was de-listed too. That game just came out last October(2005). Not like these games are that old. I mean they still sell Brady guides brand new for almost every Final Fantasy game from VII to X and even Kingdom Hearts.

Didn't mean to piss anyone off. Just posting what I was told. Sorry for being so unimformed and ignorant.

I might as well buy EVERYTHING online since that is the only place that carries everything and is always in stock. No sense for going out on "the hunt" and having a little adventure. Just a couple of clicks and it will be at my doorstep. Why leave the house.

When GameStop has an item marked as 'delisted', it means that the distribution center/vendor no longer has inventory and that the store will not be replenished once they sell whatever inventory they have on hand.

Thanks to pennied out guides from GameStop, I have an obscene number of strat guides for games I have absolutely no intention of playing. LOL

Time works differently for the guides. Sometimes they are around forever (God of War, Halo 2, SW Battlefront, WoW) because the games or guides are in releative demand over a long period of time. Makai Kingdom's time in the spotlight has come and gonei.

While that may be true, I guarantee any DM worth their ass will just tell you to give it to the customer or sell it to them for the penny rather than having a pissed off customer calling corporate because they will just get chewed out and told to give it to them anyways, probably with a gift card also.

Final Fantasy X is the perfect example, we still carry those.
