Read this in EGM, Q-Man's section. Supposedly, MS is planning on re-releasing some Xbox 1 titles for download on the XBL marketplace.

This brings up a few questions for me. First of all, would this mean that they offer the games for purchase in lieu of updating the emulation support for old Xbox games on 360?
Secondly, with the prices of many old games reaching $5 - $20, would gamers pay $10+ to own a digital version of the same title? Finally, if this rumor is true, then when the hell is Microsoft going to release a 100 GB or more hard drive? 20 GB just ain't gonna cut it with the stuff they appear to be planning.

If this turns out true, I could see them releasing a larger hard drive in the next couple months, especially with how cheap HD prices are now,

Even without the rumored Dreamcast and Xbox 1 titles, that "20" GB drive isn't going to last long.

The big question for me is this: how am I going to transfer my data from this hard drive to the next.

The big question for me is this: Dreamcast games are rumoured to be heading to the 360? That would be pretty cool!

But yeah, 20 GB hard drive is nowt. Perhaps the Core people did the right thing after all... ?

I don't think it was EGM, but the Dreamcast games rumor is a week or so old.

Why don't they spend their time working on Backwards compatability?

Why don't they spend their time working on Backwards compatability?

Because that is not profitable when they can just load the game on the server and charge money to download it.

if they do this without offering patches to play the original game, MS can go to hell. this double dipping crap has to stopped now, or it will only get worse for the industry

For us the gamers this kinda sucks.

For Microsoft it's a great idea... Release older games to make money off of them again, and then release hard drive upgrades (like 100gb or 200gb maybe) and make even more money off of people.

I doubt MS hates their user base enough to totally screw them over on compatibility. Besides, they'd need to make the same code level changes to the downloadable versions as they would to run the originals, so it wouldn't make any sense for them not to continue improving backward compatibility.

The big question for me is this: how am I going to transfer my data from this hard drive to the next. There's a program for windows called xplorer360 that lets you transfer data to and from the 360's HD.

Hmmmm...if it does do the Dreamcast, then wtf would stop MS from going the Revolution route and offering backwards compatibility via emulation for MANY different consoles. Lord knows Atari needs the money right now and Sega could easily do Genesis, et al emulators.

Some of you are amazing.

"This brings up a few questions for me. First of all, would this mean that they offer the games for purchase in lieu of updating the emulation support for old Xbox games on 360?"

"Why don't they spend their time working on Backwards compatability?"

"Because that is not profitable when they can just load the game on the server and charge money to download it."

"if they do this without offering patches to play the original game, MS can go to hell. this double dipping crap has to stopped now, or it will only get worse for the industry"

Okay folks, how did we go from rereleasing some Xbox titles for download over Xbox Live to not updating their emulation (Which if you used your heads you would think it would go hand in hand), or that it's taking away any resources from the team that is modifying the emulation program to increase compatibility, etc. Amazing @_@

My question is purely a hypothetical one, and it's a very valid one. If MS can release, say, Shenmue 2 on the marketplace for $10, then it's possible they won't include Shenmue 2 emulation support in their next emulator for Xbox titles. More money for MS can't be a bad thing. I didn't say they were going to do it, just was curious as to the possibility.

Amazing.

Well, I guess reselling the games to people who already bought them and not worring about the promised Backwords compatibility sure is the way to go!

I think that offering older Xbox games over live is stupid, only because I am a collector as much as a gamer. I want to be able to buy a game and pop that disc into any console that I have. While I might be motivated on being able to buy a game at a value price, I doubt that Microsoft will offer a better deal than walking into a game crazy and using my MVP card. As for the whole BC issue, could they have screwed that thing up any more? O_O

XBOX taking a page out of the Revolutions book. Why buy digital versions of non-old games. Waste of time.

It would be a great chance for developers to correct the mistakes they could of made during the deadline crunch... but will they invest that kind of money?

Nope.

I'd for sure download the new Fable though, since I never bothered to finish the original even though I forked out 60 bones for it!
