Atari 600XL find & questions

For 3 years I have lived right down the street from a Salvation Army but never found a thing there. Yesterday I brought a few bags of old clothes down, and when I went inside there was a boxed Atari 600XL and 1010 cassette player! $20 for everything, which isn't great but they are both in excellent condition with original packaging, foam and everything. I'm happy. :D

Well, I got out my Atari 400/800 carts and started playing, but half of them stop working after about 5 seconds. Are they not compatible with the 600XL or is there something else wrong? :huh:

Nope, the 600XL is compatible with just about all the 400/800 carts. My guess is that you have dirty connectors in the cartridge slot or on the cartridges themselves. Try cleaning both and see if that doesn't help.

Have fun with that cassette player if you ever try to use it :P I had a 1010 when I first got my Atari 800XL, and I nicknamed it "The Black Hole" because all the programs I spent so long typing into the computer vanished into the cassette player never to be seen again.
