final fantasy 8 with 57 hours.

57 what?

I played and beat the Secret of Mana over the course of a year. And I got rid of it afterwards, too! Redundancy in building up levels, magic levels, weapon levels, boss battles made ridiculously easy by merely casting the same spell repeatedly, sluggish attacking system.

Well, in recent times, I have so far spent over 116 hours on FFX, I am trying to max out the sphere grid, ect....and in classic gaming, probably Super Mario Bros. 3..oh my god, me and my brother played that game for like 5 hours every day for at least 2 months!!!

If continuous playing has to count, then I once played Ultima 5 on C64 and wasted the whole weekend away in one sitting. (probably around 36 hours)

If it doesn't have to be continuous, then both Adventure and Yars Revenge for 2600 are close to the 25 years mark for me.

I'd probably give the nod to a PC game actually - Civilization. Considering each game takes what, six hours to complete? I've played it more than once start to finish without a break. And I've played it countless times which definitely puts me into the 3 digit zone...

Well, I suppose this counts. We just upgraded our UO accounts to the Age of Shadows release. I've been playing it for about 15 months now. I think QOF has me way beat on length of playing for UO, though.

As far as actual sit down play it until you are done games, I've never sat down for any length of time really worth mentioning. I have to break it up into sessions which can drag out for a long time, where as it may only take the rest of you a day or few to complete the game. :)

I still play Diablo 2... Bought it a couple weeks after it came out... don't know how long that is... I don't play it every day obviously... but I do play for a couple weeks then skip a couple weeks then go back to it.

6 hours playing Doom for the snes. Didnt have a save feature or level select so i had to go through the game.
Also playing Socom Navy seals for 3 hours...long ass missions in that game...well if you want to do it right I mean. ;) -_-

This subject always comes up every 6 months or so and I always win!

Everquest

Calculated 1 year 34 days 12 hours I think it was last time I counted up all the /time played character info's. (I still play on weekends.)

For a long time I used to work 8-5, come home, log on, play to 3:00am, sleep 4 hours.. rense repeat. on weekends I would routinely skip sleeping until 4am sunday playing all friday night and saturday morning. I'd probably have played completely threw the weekend more then once if anyone actually was on Sunday morning.

Yes, once I actually got home from work on a Friday and during an Plane of Air raid I was on until monday morning.

This one is easy. I play Bionic Commando every day when i'm at work. I used to work a 40 hour week, and I've been working for about 3 years now, so, say an average of about 20 hours a week (the other half spent playing other games), at 150 weeks, that's about 3000 hours or 125 days.

Well, in recent history, I just clocked 68 hours into Suikoden 3 before beating it soundly with a large stick.

Historically, the longest I've spent on some games were:

Shining in the Darkness - 3 Months, playing all the time almost every day. I actually memorized every single dungeon and every turn in every dungeon in that game...I could walk from the end dungeon to the town on nothing but memory...no maps. That was the first game I ever beat.

Landstalker - about 4 months. The puzzles were HARD in that game and some of them took some serious time to figure out. Not to mention the game is fairly challenging as well. And no cheap ass faqs or strategy guides back in the day so it took a LONG time! Too bad the ending was such shite.

Phantasy Star 2 - about 3 months. I played all the way to Darkforce and then got my ass kicked back then. Turns out I hadn't leveled up enough. Go figure. Long ass game with insane dungeons. Played it all the time too!

These were back in the day when you only had 3 or 4 games total if you were lucky so it was easy to heavily focus on just one game. I also give an honorable mention to FFIII for SNES, which has been played all the way thru by me at least 5 times. Only RPG I've ever beat more than once in fact. I'd say many countless happy hours were logged on that game...but not as many as the above three! :)

I have to agree with Raedon on this one, I have been playing Everquest now for 6 months, 5 days and 14 hours, not as long as him but definitely a long time..

As far as console, I would have to say FF7 had close to 80 hours into that game.

However, once Star Wars Galaxies comes out I will defiinitely be on every available minute.

I think the longest I ever played was Legend of Zelda:LTTP on SNES. I spent a straight 8 hours on it with no breaks. I remember having a headache after that.

I think I can still beat the game with all the secrets in 8 hours. Its been a year since i last played it.

I remember playing Phantasy Star for the Sega Master System for 8+ hours straight when I first brought it hom ethe day it came out. Now, I play a game probably a maximum of 30 minutes. I play quick classics nowadays. Missile Command, Centipede...and so on. Maybe games most people can actually play for mroe than 30 minutes, but I usually catch a good quickie game and I'm out the door. I don't have the extensive time to play long titles like I used to be able to...

Cummulative time would definitely be Starcraft. I got it the first week it was out, and only recently stopped playing it about 8 months ago. I was so good at that game it wasnt even funny. In one session, it was probably only 3-4 hours of GTA vice city.
My eyes get screwed up if i go for longer than that O_O

Longest time straight? Geesh.....I honestly don't know. :) With all the time and years spent playing games, God only knows. I know I've done 12 hour all night sessions....and maybe gone on to 16-18 hours.

I know I've played some arcade games since 1980 on and off, but the oldest game I personaly have that I still play? Probaly a few GB games I have from 1993.

Back in the day, a friend and I played Jurassic Park for SNES from a Friday after school untill Sunday evening (with minimal pauses for food and sleep). The reason was twofold: 1) Jurrasic Park is a really long game with no save or password feature; and 2) the game froze on us near the end three times (all three were in almost the exact same spot). Both Friday and Saturday nights, the SNES was left on while we slept as that was the only way to be able to pick up where we left off.

That game was so fun but I can't believe they expected anyone to play it to the end in one sitting. By the third time through, we were just cruising and it still took many hours to get back to where we were. If this game had a save or password feature, it would EASILY be in my top 10 SNES games.

Hmm, longest played for a console game would probably still be Goldeneye. I usually only have a few console games for each system that I like (since they're so expensive) and I play them a lot. Lots of time playing Phantasy Star Online by myself, for example (can you trade items with other characters in offline multiplayer? I want to buff up my low-end characters o-O)

For a single sitting...jeez, I've probably spent 8 hours or so multiple times playing Counter-Strike or other FPSes. Whenever I play a game I usually go for a few hours.

I remember getting this game the first month it came out back when I was a we lass.
I think I played this game for 18 hours straight and over and over for the next 2 years, still my fav game ever!
Streetfighter 2 on SNES probably got the most playtime with me and my friends back in the day, I was the first one to get it, man that was a fun summer, before I decided that girls were more fun, LOL.

Ultima 2, Ultima 5 for number of hours...Star Control 2 for number of consecutive hours...why did there have to be a time limit in that game? I was having probably the best time I've ever had in a video game exploring all the planets when it tells me that the Kohr-Ah are eliminating all the races. If that game didn't have a time limit it would have been perfect.

I prefer RPGs and adventure games, but for me it was definitively Gran Turismo 3.

I don't know how many hours I played this gem of a game, but one and a half years after purchase I still played the game just for fun. I played around 2000 races, got every gold medal of the license tests, unlocked every car in the game, broke every set record of "time trial' by 3 to 5 secs, and of course finished simulation mode.

I find this topic to be kind of unfair, being that there are games WITH an ending and there are games WITHOUT an ending. For instance, someone can play an online game for 100 hours and its nothing, or a non-ending game like Animal Crossing, but a game with an ending, spending 100 hours is like...WOW, you spent THAT long on it! So there should really be 2 categories.

Longest time spent on a game with an ending : 125 hours on Pokemon Blue back in the day, got ALL 151 pokemon! Wow...that was like, 6 years ago I think.

Logenst time spent on a game without an ending: Animal Crossing, not really sure but I played it daily for anywhere between 30 min to 2 hour streaches for about 3-4 months.

And I find more pleasure in putting the time in Pokemon than in Animal Crossing.

I notice a lot of the choices have been for RPGs. I've put over 100 hours into FF7 (Waltzed though it in <35 hours, without realising I was near the end till I got there! So I played through again for another 60 hours, doing all the stuff I missed!). However, I've put more time into the Pro Evolution Soccer / Winning Eleven series than into any other game, by a long way. Ok, so it's not strictly the same game, as the game has moved from SNES to MD, to PS1 to PS2, to Cube etc but that series has sucked a fair chunk of my life... I'd hate to think just how much!

Cumulative time for me probably about 100-115 hours is the peak, whatever it says on my Pokemon Blue game (Blue seems to be the favorite Pokemon version to play... why is that?), but in one sitting probably only about 5 or 6 hours playing, of all things, Top Shop for PS-X. Top Shop was ten bucks and it sucked my time away so easily... and that was only one game!

Monopoly for PS-X comes in second, probably about 4 hours.

In one sitting I would say either War Craft II or a Command & Conquer game. Those levels can take awhile. Then play a few at a time.

Over all I still play Circus & Warlords on the Atari 2600 from time to time.

most hours logged on ohe game is NHLPA 93 on the Genesis. My friend Joel and I played that game way to much. Second after that is Phantasy Star Online on the GameCube. I have over 1000 hours logged into that game over the last 8 months.

Okay, let's see....most time spent total is definitely Super Smash Bros. with Super Smash Bros. Melee being the runner up. The latter has well over 100 hours logged in (too lazy to check exact, I'll update some other time), and I've played the original 2x/3x as much. Really.

Longest straight? I think Metal Gear Solid wins the award. A friend and I rented it, played it straight through....took us 14 hours the first time. I can probably beat it in, like, 2 or 3 now.

When I was a kid, I was an arcade maniac. I once did a promotion at the local arcade, when I was 11 or 12, where I played Asteroids for over 48 hours. Unfortunately, my mom (who had given permission) decided I was too young to spend my entire week of spring break playing, eating, and sleeping at the arcade and made me come home

So wait, how long did you actually play it?

Longest straight: Grandia (PS1). The day I got it, I played the first 10-11 hours straight before I realized what time it was.

Longest combined: Super Mario World (SNES). I've beaten that game so many times that I've pretty much got it memorized. And the funny thing is, in my childhood, I never actually owned an SNES -- every time I played it was at someone else's house.

Phantasy Star 2 - about 3 months. I played all the way to Darkforce and then got my ass kicked back then. Turns out I hadn't leveled up enough. Go figure. Long ass game with insane dungeons. Played it all the time too!

Leveling is tough in that game. I had the same problem with Neifirst...strangely, though, I actually don't mind it much. Just need a lot of time to play it.

Last night I played many hours of Zelda Wind Waker...I was on from at least 12 to 4 (AM), realized it must be darn late, got off...I think I was on around 9, too, and even before dinner (took a break for that). Pretty good game, that Wind Waker.

I have 150+ hours logged onto FFX, I had something like 118 hours on FF 8, On FF 3/6, I maxed out the timer on all three files you could save on. That was back when 1 RPG would come out a year, so I used to play that game constantly. I also had a ton of time on FF 2/4, but I can't remember how much.

As for one sitting, recently I put about 40 hours on Star Wars: KOTOR, but that was interuppted by work a couple of times, but no sleep.

Cumulatively, there is no doubt that would be Street Fighter Zero/Alpha 3 on various consoles.

The import PS version keeps track of how many hours you've played the game.
I imported the PS version instant it was available. I managed to log in 78 hours by the time the Saturn version came out. Then, I really started playing it alot. Countless nights and entire weekends have been lost to Saturn Street Fighter Zero 3, my favorite game of all time.
If I had to take a realistic guess, between the PS, DC, GBA, and Saturn versions, I would say between 400-500 hours.

As for one sitting, that's much harder to say. I used to play heavy amounts of Quake III online with my DC, and I remember losing 9 or 10 hours once.

Hmm easy Final Fantasy 7 , i was a freshman in highschool and i faked sick an entire week, never left my bed or my psx controller :D i think i had over 60 hours on it. I will tell my mom one day since she waited on me hand and foot and thought i was on my death bed and boy i woulda if i didnt beat the game lol

I don't think telling her would be wise. Not unless she confessed up to something really horrible, first.

I'm not sure which game I logged the most hours on, but I can give you a guess for each system.

On the Commodore 64, I played "Lords of Conquest" several times a week for years.

On the NES, I would beat Metroid and immediately turn around and beat the game again.

On the Sega Genesis, I had Revenge of Shinobi mastered because I played it each day after coming home from school.

On the SNES, it was certainly Super Street Fighter II. I was just out of high school and had my own apartment. I had friends that used to come by each night and the activity of choice was Street Fighter.

On the PS1, it has been Castlevania: Symphony of the Night. Like Metroid, I beat it more times than I can count.

I haven't been as addicted to any games on the newest generation consoles, but am currently logging in a lot of hours with "City of Heroes." (So many hours, that I forced myself not to play last night so I could give my eyeballs and mouse-clicking muscles a break. I tried to play some Genesis, but just kept wanting to go back to CoH.)
