May 7th my friends. That's when the world shall be happy once again. We shall all join hands, sing Dr Suess lyrics, and live lives of peace. For on that day, my fellow man, we shall be subjected to a time when pleasure was simple, pure, and wholesome. Be prepared for the movement codenamed NSMB. May 7th we shall rise up, and once again defeat the ultimate evil. For May 7th of 2006 will mark the release of New Super Mario Bros.

May 7th... Japan? US? Worldwide?

US Nintendo Power. So I would assume the United States.

It is probably a Japan release date. Probably. But if it isn't... big hugs for everyone at Nintendo!

Edit: Eurogamer thinks this date is the US release date. Hmm. Well, that is good news. How about giving us a Worldwide release, Nintendo? No? Ok.

Nintendo Power's US magazine doesn't go announcing release dates to it's readers when its the Japanese date.

So safe to say it isn't the Japanese release date. As for when it will come to other territories, I wouldn't know.

This news is awesome! I can't wait. Now i just need to buy a DS Lite so i have something to play it on....

I don't think this game was really that hard to make, so the speed in which it was developed doesn't really surprise me.

It's been in development for two years already. will be well over two by the release date. Most people expected a fall 2005 release, but it slipped into 2006.

The DS is not a joke anymore. It is turning out to have many Nintnendo greats on it. Mario will be yet another reason why the system is holding its own. The one thing that people most want to do with a portable game system...games...is done very well on the DS.

Nintendo are treating the DS in the same way they threat their consoles. No ports of previous Nintendo classics here. Just good, clean, original games based on classic Nintendo properties. Oh yes. The DS will probably outsell the GameCube by this time next year, which says it all.

Hmm awesome. Is there a good DS emulator out there? Im guessing this game wont use the touch screen well Im hoping anyway, because I sold my DS and there's no chance of me buying another one but I HAVE TO play this game

There are DS emulators out there, none that run at full speed, and speaking of them is against the forum rules. NSMB does use the touchscreen, as you have a repository that holds 3 items, and you us the touchscreen to select which power up to drop from the sky.

Speaking of DS Emulators though, you can try out Dualis if you are into homebrew gaming. It won't play commercial titles, but developers are using it to test their programs.

I haven't been this anticipated for a game to be released since Gunstar Super Heroes... and we all know how that turned out. Please Nintendo, don't disappoint me like Treasure did!

Reason I sold it is because it was just sitting in my room for months and I never bought a game for it, partly because I cant afford to buy games and I dont have the urge to play many video games these days, which is a shame :(

I seem to recall Rayman and Final Fantasy III being ports of some nature, as well.

No dinging needed. Yeah, okay, Mario 64 DS is a port. However, it is a better port than what Nintendo have done in the past. Plenty of new content, and plenty of new reasons to play. I would consider it a port, obviously, but you know... I'm not going to win this battle, am I? :)

Rumor is May 7th is also the release date for the DS lite in the US. May 7th is a wierd date, its a Sunday. I'd imagine we'll be able to pick up both a DS lite and New Super Mario Bros. on the same date. I know I'll be picking them both up.

And my first thought when I saw this topic was "which Mario haven't they ported to a hand held yet? Hotel Mario? Mario Paint?"

I can hardly wait! I hope they put together a DS Lite bundle with it in it. I will buy this game day one whether it's bundled or not. But since I'll be getting a Lite when it comes out anyway, they might as well kill two birds with one brick.

Come one, Nintendo! DS Lite Bundle! Say it with me! DS Lite New Super Mario Bros. Bundle! :D

I can't believe we've gone 15 years since the last traditional Mario game. What the heck happened? And only Yoshi's Island, Mario 64, and Mario Sunshine since then? And Nintendo wonders what happened to their marketshare. It's about damn time Mario and Luigi came back to their roots.

Mitchell!! LOL LOL

Super Mario Land 2 came out after Mario world, in 1992. So technically speaking, it's been 14 years.
