any tips for a rpg noob.
like: should i try to max out each charactors main attribute... or should i still try and make them well rounded?

It's usually better to play on the characters strength's. If you try to round them out you'll just end up with a bunch of weak players.

Erm. Yeah really depends on the game, which according to your latest topics could be any 8 to 16 bit Nintendo title. Honestly though, RPGs really aren't that difficult a genre. Very rarely outside a FInal Fantasy title do you have to power level. It should be apparent from playing the game whether this strategy is nessacary or not, because obviously you're either getting your butt whopped or not.

It's great you want to be informed before diving into a new genre but I doubt there's an overwhelming plethera of oldschool RPGs in your area. So how about buying whatever's available for a reasonable price and actually trying it out for yourself.
