:D

This list is based on an older post and has been completely updated. I think I've got all the "pure" shooter games covered, but there may be some omissions in other categories. Any help with Japanese games, in particular, would be a GREAT help. Everyone was EXTREMELY helpful the last go-round and helped make this list much more complete... Night Striker S and G-Vector were complete surprises to me!

I plan to split the "pure" shooter list into horizontal and vertical categories ASAP.

Check to see if this list is missing anything! Pay particular attention to the QUASI-3D shooters, as I don't know what's out there! Japanese games in particular...

Thunderforce V is my favorite shooter of all time. That game IMO is harmony in motion. The soundtrack brings a tear to my eye. The control is nice and tight, the bosses are wild, the stages are nice, the power-up system is intuitive, and the graphics are out of this world.

Powerslave is probably the nicest FPS in the 32-bit era. The lighting effects were amazing, the mood was always tense, the egypt theme works very well, the gameplay is top-notch.

Sorry, I love those 2 games, just thought I'd throw that out there.

I just got Blast Wind in the mail today... It's not as great as I'd hoped, but it's still a fun game. I think my favorite Saturn shooter is a toss-up between Radiant Silvergun and Battle Garegga.

You're right! I totally left out Darklight Conflict! I'll add it to the list.

As far as Area 51 goes, your notice that I also left out its sequel Maximum Force as well as every gun shooter game for the Saturn including the Vitua Cop games, House of the Dead, Crypt Killer, Death Crimson, Corpse Killer, and every other gun shooter. I think they are a totally different experience, shooting or not.

i'm getting close to having a complete collection of Saturn shooters... a few thoughts...

I just got Gun Frontier: Arcade Gears off Ebay, based on an old Taito coin-op with a western/spaceship theme. I have to admit it's not so great.
