A PAL PS2 version of Black has been leaked on the net. If you go to a torrent site, you can find it. People claim it was an ex-EA staffer who done this, but we might never know.

I said this on Gamespot:
"This reminds me of Halo 2 before it came out. A PAL version of Halo 2 was release on torrent few weeks before the acutal game came out. My friend downloaded the game and love it. He told me he just saved $50."
Discuss.

A game leak after it's been shipped from EA? Big deal.
And it's MSRP is $39.99.

I think it's awesome that EA is doing that with their prices now.

I think 39.99 is still to much for a game that is suppose to be as short as this one and it doesn't have an online feature.
I dunno, I played the real demo, it just didn't do it for me and I'm a FPS fan.

We needed a thread to discuss that little kids are stealing a game? Wow.

It is still expensive, but it is a step in the right direction.

I agree completely. Granted I think its because the market is not moving enough product, so its a way to maybe get games moving off the shelves.

Right on the first thread I read this at, somebody said it was a European store.
Makes sense, given the release format.
Silly Europeans, trying to undercut our profits...

Seeing how PAL PS2 games usually sell for around EUR 60,- (~ $71) i think they make more profit over here than in the USA or Japan.

you'd think a game would cost more to make as well, many different countries to market for and translate into and box variations, as opposed to an all english north america (with b&w printed french manuals in canada) or a japanese version.

True, but i don't think translating a manual would justify the extra costs if you compare it to the costs of actually making the game (which is said to be several millions for a single game).
Take "We love Katamari" for example. In the US it was a budget title selling for $29.99. Here in Finland shops are charging between EUR 55,- and EUR 60,- for it. Would it really costs $40 per copy to make a translated manual and cover art x_x (i haven't bought the game yet, but i don't even think they did a translation. All the text on the cover was english)...

Assuming that's not all tied up in costs (which it may well be), it hurts EA and Criteron (and thus the development of future titles like Black) more when it's pirated in Europe.

Console games usualy gets leaked on the net before they hit the stores. So I wonder why they make it a big deal if one title get leaked.
About the costs in Europe for games, it do cost money to transport the games over here, but how much I dunno. I guess we make more money also so its natural that the prices are higher. People also buy ALOT of games here even if the price is like it is today.

please don't mind my blind ignorance, but aren't some games themselves translated? i've seen plenty of pal GBA games that offer as many as 6 languages not too mention how many european languages PC games are made into, this doesn't carry somewhat into the console market?
i wonder if it took them longer to download the game than the 6 hours it takes to beat it :P

Aren't DVD-based games produced at regional reproduction centers? It's a standardized media, and I know that this is done for most PC games.

Well yes and no i guess. Most games i have are in english (both the game, voice acting and manual). Some games have manuals in a few languages, some have translated menus and subtitles and only a few are go even further than this. But then again, in most cases the voice acting is in the original (or english language). So far the only game i know that is totally translated is Buzz The Music Quiz. Which actually was a little annoying because i moved to this country a few years ago and i don't speak the language that good yet. It took me some trouble finding an english version of the game :)
