Looking good, princess - especially from this angle!
The original Zelda is very interesting for only directing you towards certain sections. Unlike other games (and indeed unlike the linear style of play it later focused on), Zelda posed puzzles but threw up few barriers to progress. You're free to run through the game without a sword if you want...but it's dangerous out there!

lol I feel so ashamed! It's as old as me and I still havn't completed the game. I didn't actually play it until recently and sadly only played through the first 3 or 4 bosses before becoming attached to something else. Don't worry Zelda I'll finish you soon enough

I can't believe it's been 20 years already. Seems like just yesterday I was playing the game for the first time. What a timeless classic.

I first discovered aLttP whilst studying for my GCSEs. I got Mario Kart and Mega Man X for Xmas and I'd cained MMX (inc. Ryu fireball) by the New Year, so I was quite pissed. However, one of my mates had a US SNES and Zelda. so I traded for MMX.

Well I spent the next 6 weeks staying up till all hours with the damn game. Truly one of the finest gaming experiences ever.

Then I decided to get LA for the GB so I'd have something to do during my free periods in the 6th form. Bad idea.... didn't do much in free periods or any other time, other than play Zelda for 3weeks.

Get to college, and OoT gets released that Xmas. Here we go again....... So yeah, Zelda has been responsible for sleep depravation, lack of eating, and me vanishing randomly for a few hours.

I really should sit down and play through MM one day, I've tried but can't seem to get into it. Same with WW, just couldn't get into it. I actually played about 10hours or so, then never switched the GC back on. I don't have the time for long involving games anymore, hence my shift to arcade style gaming.

I actually just beat the original for the first time about two weeks ago. It is my birthday present to Zelda. *Golf Clap*

OK. So I have played Zelda ever since it came out. Beat it and everything. So get this. I have been playing it again this last week, and I just figured something out. You know how that old guy gives you that letter to show that old woman and then she sells you a potion? Well I thought that she would only sell you a potion *ONCE*, and that was your emergency potion to use somewhere in the game. So I have always saved it until the final battle with Gannon. I didn't realize that you could go ahead and use it up and then buy another one off of her. This makes the game so much easier!

DOH!

No wonder Nintendo decided to release Zelda TP in 06' instead of 05'....now instead of being a delay, it'll just be considered the "Anniversary" :D

I feel very old, twenty years is a life. Well, instead of that, i´m not a real fan of Zelda series, from the first one for NES to the GC, it´s not a game that i love, but i must recognize that is a classic one, and we can´t ignore it. So, for one of the most famous elves in this planet...happy birthday!!!

Cheers,

Matías

P.S. Yes, 1up.com is very slow...

I still can't play the first game. It's so hard!

My first ever Zelda game was LttP, but the one that got me hooked was Link's Awakening. When I bought that, I'd never gotten into a game quite like it, and couldn't put it down for weeks. What a fantastic game, and a handheld at that!

My favourite Zelda game, however, is definitely Majora's Mask. Most bestest N64 game evar. :D
