I was playing Lunar: Dragon Song yesterday when I realized just how much I hate having to walk in that game. For those of you unfamiliar with the game, you loose HP while running. And no, the HP doesn't slowly refill. If it did I wouldn't mind the running "penalty." When I look back at classic RPG's I can think of a few where you had to press a button to run, but weren't penalized for it, and I always held the button down.
I never had the patience to just walk around. So what about you guys, do you walk or do you run?

I'll walk through a new area the first time so I don't miss anything hidden, but after that I generally run.

RUN Dangit! Run! LOL
Yeah, I don't have patience. I ride the bike everywhere in pokemon games.

That, and a whole lot of other reasons [no Working Designs being 1 of them] is why Lunar: Genesis didn't get very favourable reviews.
As for the topic, running is better if there's no penalty. In Silent Hill I run too, but I like to let Harry catch his breath. It's just more real.

It all depends on the game.
Games that require a mouse and are real time I generally run in battles to each opponent then set for walk incase I miss-click someone and end up walking away from them. If it's going down hallways or open places with potential hidden treasures then I walk. Now, if it's somewhere I've been already then it's time to just run unless there's a quest item around.
As for some others, why run when you can just cast teleport? *BOOM* You're on the other side of the wall/mountain. :)

"Now you wouldn't believe me if I told you, but I could run like the wind blows. From that day on, if I was ever going somewhere, I was running!"
Thought I would throw in some movie trivia in the appropriate place. I don't think it's to hard to guess, but who knows.
Oh and I run, I hate walking!

I don't understand why you would want to penalise running. Having to walk all the way through an RPG at a snail's pace sounds tedious and painful. I always tend to run, as there's usually enough time to spot things

Hmm, can you kill yourself by running in Dragon Song?

I usually run because it seems to take forever. Speaking of about a day or two ago I for the first time I played then beat Toki: Going Apespit. And I HAAAAAAAAAATED how slow the guy moved it drove me insane.

If there's no penalty for running, I run EVERYWHERE. Except from battle (well, if it's going to kill me, then I do).
Oh yeah, quote's from Forrest Gump.

Never played it, but is it possible to "die" from running? Like if you just run the whole time will your HP run out, or does it stop at a certain point?

I usually run except when required to walk. With two exceptions. Jade Empire and Fable. In both games when I felt that I was truly badass I felt no need to run. I walked everywhere because that's what badasses do. It also seemed more dramatic to approach big fights by walking.

For Pete's sake, I run. Every game. If it has a Run option. I run. B-Dash. Run for the hell of it. Run for my life. Run just because walking is boring. I turned on running in Final Fantasy VI because gosh dangit walking is slow! RUN!!! 8-)
Yeah, I love running. In games. Not real life. In real life I lose my breath after 100 feet. But it gives me quite a rush.
Every game needs a run option. Without running, Mario would be unbeatable. (Just wait until you get to world 8 and those long deep pits.)

No, at 1/3 of your HP you can't run anymore, you just "sweat" when you hold the run button. I really don't like the 1/3 limit, as your HP grows, you can run less.

Indeed, blasted c-button mashing in Mischief Makers.
Only game I found running to not always be helpful: Heretic II. But that's just because I like to beat corpses into dust, so it sucks to roll past them. Uh...

Gotta love running. Auto-Run is a beautiful thing.
