From Keystone Kapers to Pitfall to 3d platformers I've been hopelessly endlessly jumping in hopes I'll get there faster. Been 10-15 years now and I'm still not getting anywhere.

Yup, though jump attacking in Castlevania is faster than a simple standing attack...been doing it ever since I picked that up LOL

Actually works wonders in Pick Axe Pete, thank you very much. :P

And sliding. And rolling.

Yeah I do it. In most games it doesn't do anything but at least it's more interesting, since your character is doing something and you're not only moving the dpad or analog stick :/

Rolling in zelda games is a constant task, but atleast it is faster. Only way you can make it from kokori village to hyrule castle before sunset. lol I feel right at home, you know how many people just wouldn't understand that last sentence.

Yeah, all the time. I remember doing it the other day because I was trying to figure out if it was actually slowing me down. I cant remember what it was though...it had to either be on the Dreamcast or PSP.

Yeah, when i got my first game system i would jump in hopes it would make my character move faster but it never helped. I just ended up in pulling the controller out of the console.
Thank god for the Activator!!

I do it in the newer Zelda games; not jumping though. I continually press the 'roll' button so Link can move a little faster.
The sounds he makes gets a little annoying though

Good gawd, yes! I do jump A LOT in games just to keep my self going. That's why I don't like games that make you come to a complete stop if you do jump...

Is it a coincidence that this is today's C.A.D comic?

Early on in Everquest, jumping would give a slight speed boost. If someone went hopping past real fast, you knew to get the f out of the way quick, a train was seconds behind. Then they nerfed it to use up your stamina bar. LOL

In some FPS games it actually works. Like Quake 3.

in EQ1 you could outrun others and mobs by running at an angle (forward and left or right pressed at the same time.)
In WoW I see people jump everywhere but I've timed it and it's no faster then running.

Before getting the boots, I hopped everywhere in Morrowind. I also use the hopping trick a lot in Marble Blast, works well on ice and inclines.

I do the jump thing all the time on SOCOM. It helps from getting sniped, but I find myself doing it even when there is no danger from being sniped.

It works when you're on conveyor belts :) I was just doing this in Megaman the other day.

Seriously, most broken leveling system ever.
Game should've come with a DDR pad.

i'm sure everyone noticed this:but in resident evil; when you are limping from the near-death state, tapping the action button while moving makes you kind of shake and you move much faster than slowly staggering around.

Rolling in most games doesn't help at all. Because the character actually STOPS when they finish which ends up taking even more time than you thought it would.
Just say no to unneeded rolling. ;)

In some FPS games it actually works. Like Quake 3.
I used to jump all the time in Quake II, but it was primarily to be a harder to hit target, not to get anywhere any faster. It usually didn't work against the coworkers I was playing against, but it bugged them a little, so I kept doing it. "Can't hit me if you're pissed!".

I always used to hit the run button when trying to beat out ground balls on Baseball Stars, I don't think it actually sped anyone up, but I always did it...
And yeah, there are certain games where I jump instead of run.

I agree with all the FPS comments, no better way to dodge gunfire :2gunfire:
I always roll in Fable. I've read somewhere that that actually is faster than just running.

It's faster to do a jump/dash combo (A then B in midair) in Super Mario Sunshine than to just walk... of course, you can always spray water on the ground and slide on that too.

It depends. In games with a Run button or a fast character, no. In something like Castlevania: SOTN where the character is pretty slow, yeah.
It's not always faster, but it seems like it.

Similar in nature, I started this thread a while back.
