I've been looking at solutions for this and was wondering what my best options are. I tried searching here and coudln't find a good answer. I've found this PS1 Parallel port adapter that allows you to play MP3's and imports/backups on your PS1 but I was wondering if this just works or if you have to do some sort of a CD-Tray spring replacement or swap trip?

As for the Saturn I found the Action Replay 4M plus for Saturn and I'd like to know if any sort of spring/swap trick is required for it also?

Also do PAL games when used with these adapters still output video in PAL or does the video get outputed as NTSC?

The 4M Action Replay is all you will ever need for your Saturn. Plays imports, 4-meg ram games, and acts as an additional storage device without any swapping of discs. Essential if you intend to play imports on a Saturn without a hard mod, and in order to get the most out of a Saturn, you MUST import. The good stuff never made it to North America...

As for the Pal question, I'm not certain, I'm curious to know myself...

Action Replays work well but have issues. They tend to die early (some are dead out of the box) and they can be finicky. I have one Saturn that works with the official backup cart but won't work with the replay. If you have a problem, one thing you can try is wedging some paper in between the cart and the slot, and that might seat it well enough to work. NCS still sells them.

The PS1 mod listed here requires a swap, so you have to have some rig to hold down the button and swap discs to play backups. Imports will play directly.

The Saturn mod only plays imports, not backups.

If imports are your only goal, you should be fine with either of these, I think.

I take this back- this PS1 mod still requires the swap trick to play imports. Yuck.

If you have soldering skills, a chip is best (with a switch to turn it off).
