Mannnnn...I'm stuck in Maniac Mansion for the C64.

Recently, I got the urge to play C64. So I pulled it out from my closet and started playing it again. Anyways, back to the topic LOL ...I made it to the part where I have to go up to the Observatory room above the Man-Eating Plant. Only problem is that I can't get to the blasted room! I feed it radioactive water and once it grew, I gave it soda so that it doesn't bite me. Once I climbed all the way to the top...nothing happens. I even tried to go up and down numerous times and still nothing happens. Anyone else had this same problem? Is there a trick to go up or something? It doesn't say "Walk to Hole" or anything like that like the NES version of it.

That sounds like a bug. What I remember you dont have to do anything spesial to get into the hole.

I remember my brother walking into the room back in the days. I don't know how he did it, but he managed to. So I know it's possible for me to go into it.

Mmm...me neither, and i played it a lot of times. I´m not sure if it´s a bug 100%, but it´s sounds like one.

Does this happen only in the Commodore 64 version? I don't get it... Now I can't continue playing the game because I am basically stuck at that part.

I think so. I played PC and NES version and i couldn´t remember that kind of bug... :/

I dont think its a bug that always happend, if it is a bug that is. Its been quite a while since i played MM, but what i can remember you must go into that hole no matter what caratcher you chose. I bet if you restart the game and play from the start it wont happend. Its worth a shot.

I seem to remember experiencing something similar - like the 'hotspot' for the hatch was in a strange location. I haven't played MM since it was a new game, tho, so I don't recall the exact details. Maybe it was towards the bottom of the screen or the plant? At any rate, I know I was able to get in there, and this was the C64 version also.

Mmmmmmm, I completed it on the C64 ages ago and never had a bug pop up. Now that you mentioned it I might have to give it another go. :)

A while ago, my brother had the same problem and I'm talking about like 10+ years ago. LOL Anyways, I'm gonna try and go into that hole cuz I HAVE to...I can't get around it. I need that blasted quarter inside that envelope. LOL I never tried clicking all the way at the bottom of the man-eatting plant but I'll give it a shot cuz I tried the top. If that doesn't work, I might as well start from the beginning. However, I really don't want to start from the beginning....but it I have to, then I'll do it. I'm about, roughly, 95% done with the game.

If you do end up starting over, you might try downloading the completely free remake for the PC that Berserker linked to in his article (http://www.digitpress.com/columns/freeforall.htm). It's pretty cool!

Well I didn't manage to go up that telescope room but I manage to beat the game. I don't know why I didn't do this from the start but while my brother was on the comp and I was attempting to go up the blasted room, a thought hit me. I told him to look up possible combinations for the safe for the safe above Edna's room. To our surprise, they are about 3 combinations (I think). So I tried the 1st on and PRESTO, the safe opened. Anyways, thanks to everyone who tried to help. :D
