I just picked up a Turbografx from a thrift for $9.99, and hopefully some kind soul here can answer a question for me. I have all of the necessary hookups, but (unfortunately) don't have a game card to test it. My question is this: if I power on the system with no game inserted, should I be able to see anything on the screen. I'm trying to determine if the power/RF are working properly, but all I seem to get when I power it on is noise/snow. Should I get a black screen? A system logo? Something else? Thanks in advance for any help!

You'll need a card to test it. Nothing comes on without a game.

If I turn mine on with no game, I get a solid grey screen. I wouldn't call this a thorough test though...

Most cd systems have some sort of screen that comes up, just my personal experience. Most cart/card based systems don't, unless it is the Sega Master System or Atari Jaguar. That is just my personal experience.

I tested mine and you do have to have a card inserted, like most cartridge based systems. Definitely try to get the Bonk series and Splatterhouse...great games!

Hmm, I've had a TG-16 that did that and I've also had one that had a solid sea green colored screen come up when powered on with nothing inserted - both worked fine. Hardware revisions perhaps?

LOL ...and even when you do have a game properly inserted into a Jaguar the damn red error screen comes up half the time.

True...I've kept my Jaguar in pristine condition since I originally bought it brand new and that error screen comes up WAY too much.
