I feel bad for asking this question, but I've looked all over and couldn't find a definite answer anywhere.

I have a type I genesis, and I want an RCA cable to go along with it (I only have the RF adapter)

1) Do they make a stereo RCA cable for the type one genesis (I found a mono cable, but I'm picky)

2) If they do, where can I buy it.

Pretty simple right. I've looked on ebay, on google in local gaming shops, but really no luck. I would have my genesis hooked up right now if I only had that cable. Somebody must know for sure...right.[/i]

I have never seen a stereo one for that model. I just split the RCA with a y-adapt so I get sound out of both speakers. The RCA is a bit harder to find for the first model genesis.

Yep. I still haven't gotten a y adapter for my cable so whenever I play the master system it's only one damn speaker, lol. That seems like it may be your only option. You can usually pick up a cable easily searching for master system av cables.

Don't you think it's a little weird that it wouldn't be stereo. For when it was released it should have had stereo sound! Any one know for sure?

For sure, the A/V cable is mono. You have to use the headphone jack for stereo.

Yeah, with the genesis one, you get the stereo sound out of the headphone jack. You can get the cable from radio shack.

Both the A/V cable for genesis 1 and the headphone cable work on a Neo Geo too, if you ever end up with one of those :P

The AV out on the Genesis 1 only outputs mono sound. Pinout:

Yeah, the Genesis models 1 and 1.5 (thats what I call the later model 1 w/o the exe port) only output mono sound on the AV output. The Sega CD even came with 'mixing cables' for the model 1 Genny that plugged inot the stero headphones out port on the Genesis and into an input on the Sega CD systems so that you could then use standard RCA stero cables and plug those inot the L and R RCA stero ports on the Sega CD. You would then continue to use the Genesis AV out to get the picture, so it asbout the same as using one of those adaptors people are talking about that you can get from RadioShack that turn a stero headphone out into a stero RCA out to be plugged inot a home stero or whatever.

Thanks for all the help guys! Looks like I'll have to get the one cable for the composite video, plus a mini-stereo to rca thingy from radio shack for the audio... good enough I guess. Thanks again.

on a related note, does the Genesis 2 read Stereo for A/V cable? Thanks in advance.

The Genesis 2 does support stereo through the AV out; stereo AV cables do exist.

I output stereo through the RCA jacks on my Sega CD (2); works great. Just another option to consider.

Yep, Genesis 2 and 3 both support true stero out through the AV port, and they both use the same RCA style cables.
