I just sold an item where I put in it that I would only accept paypal but now the winnner has asked if he can pay with money order. How does this work? Is there a way he could screw me over with this? He has no ratings on e-bay in case this makes a difference.
Thanks for the input.

A money order is just like a check, except there's no chance of it bouncing. Well, most of the time.

The guy buys a money order and then sends it to you by mail. You get it, can cash it or deposit it at your bank (or the post office if it's a Postal one), and bam, you have your payment immediately. Other than waiting for the payment to arrive, it's a great way to get paid.

Be vary wary of acceptingmoney orders from people from another country. No offense to those overseas here but there's too much chance for fraud with foreign money orders.

If the buyer is local let him know that you'll accept it but like a check, you won't ship the item until it clears and is deposited to your bank account.

International Postal Money Orders are usually fine, at least for Canadians. :)

Since I too only accept paypal, I have my auctions set up that only those who already have a paypal account are allowed to bid. You can set this up in your ebay preferences and if for any reason you would like to accept another form of payment on a specific auction, there is a place to "uncheck" this while you are listing the item.

I like this feature, it really cuts down on non-paying bidders.

What is the difference with a western union money order? It would be international because its coming from the US into Canada.

There's not an extra fee to use this option is there?

No extra fees. Just your usual eBay/Paypal fees.

If you never accepted money orders before or are paranoid then just tell them no as your auction ststes clearly Paypal only. Since you are in Canada I'd only accept the international postal money orders and nothing else as most Canadian sellers always say. Also tell the bidder that you will have to wait until the M/O clears your bank before shipping the item which could be a few weeks. Always cover yourself is my free advice.
