you guys missed something
" This movie was made using an emulator with savestates and slowdown. It's meant to show the game pushed to its limits. "
he didnt do this in real time

hehe, there was a different posted a little while ago where he used the exact same hacks to get the keys, but played slightly different levels..such as the princess' hidden slide, ect. This guy was faster but I don't remember if the first one was tool assisted though. It's always fun watching the insane tactics that can pulled off in a game with slow motion and save states ;D.

I don't think I'll ever be impressed with these until I see one that doesn't use cheats, hacks, and/or save states.

Then you're missing the point.. they aren't meant to "impress". They're a composed movie in a sense (and is actually a lot of hard work to make). It's for entertainment.
What you want is a legitimate speed-run which is a totally different thing.

Ya :)
I didn't see the text that said it was done with saves, hacks, or anything of that nature. After watching it for a few minutes I realized something was up though. I guessed it was done with an emulator (Hints the quality of the video and the odd speed changes at times), and that maybe the person set up vector arrays for the emulator to automatically run through. It was my first time comming across the video and was thinking about all the odd glitches I never knew about.

Wow.. that was really nice. I have yet to see any skills like this at a convention.

To the original poster:
I saw that video a few weeks ago. It's damn awesome even if it isn't a human doing it in real-time. I LOVED seeing all the glitches I never knew about. I have gotta try that "Use the Bob-Omb to blast yourself behind the Chain Chomp Cage" bug. And I loved how at the start he actually beat Lakitu to the door and ran right through him.
Oh, and how about modifying the controls to allow backwards long jumps to trick Bowser's endless stairway into ending. (Same thing one person does in a Zelda video. Walks backwards up the stairs and goes right through them all the way to the end room with the Triforce.)
I dare you to check out this video of Yoshi's Island and fast forward to 40 minutes in. Watch how he beats the Piranah Plant boss. And Kamek's surprised reaction.

Lmao...that was pretty damn funny! I've never gotten that far in the game. Does he always say "Oh my!" after that battle, or was it a special reaction from one shotting it across the room??
Jasoco

Before this battle he says "Give it up Yoshi, you cutie without a navel! Ooopp- forget it..."
Kamek never says anything after that battle. They actually took into account that someone might actually defeat the enemy the boss was gonna be made from. I think Naval Piranha is actually the only boss that you CAN defeat sight unseen actually. So it's nice they programmed it in instead of forgetting and causing the game to lock up.
Correct me if I'm wrong. Just in case there's another boss that's there and defeatable before the screen locks you in.
Also, I tried to recreate that move, but it's damned hard. So I give up. It was obviously slowed down and calculated many times beforehand the precise angle and position to be in. Let them do the hard stuff. I'll just sit back and watch.

Oh, and how about modifying the controls to allow backwards long jumps to trick Bowser's endless stairway into ending.
there is no control modification involved, i watched my friend do this repeatedly on a real n64, you long jump down the stairs, landing on your ass on the stairs (hold back right after you jump, and keep holding it till youre done.), mash jump like you dont know what pain is, you have to press jump for every step.
definately possible on a real n64, it's fixed for the ds though, as most of the glitches are.
i'd like to know what youre talking about in zelda, only thing i know of to get through closed doors is crooked cartridge, which is easy, but you have to be doing it on a real n64.

Ah, good to know.
i'd like to know what youre talking about in zelda, only thing i know of to get through closed doors is crooked cartridge, which is easy, but you have to be doing it on a real n64.I'm talking about the Link to the Past "Through the staircase" video.

Modify a controller to allow both Up and Down to be pressed and Link walks backwards. But the game isn't prepared for this kind of trickery.
BTW, you think beating a piranha plant before it's grown is awesome, watch this guy beat Bowser in his Koopa Copter. Mario goes all Superman on his ass! I could watch this final battle for hours.
He enters Bowsers castle at 8 minutes in. But watch the whole thing. It's only 11 minutes long!

It's google video streams. There are links on the right side that allow you to download them with ease. Also they have places that let you get plug-ins and other software to view the videos and sounds if you can't see them. The biggest suggestion though is to make sure your system is up to date. If you use IE, do a Windows Update and get the latest version of Windows Media Player and it's patches so you can stream on there. Also Winamp helps out with it's plugins. If you use FireFox or Opera then a taskbar should drop down to ask for plug-in installs. Let us know if you have more problems because video.google is a nice thing to have and use! :)

Indeed, I use Windows 98 SE on this system with Firefox 1.0.1 and it works fine.

There was a youtube video I saw of a guy beating the game in 20 minutes, using 16 stars and some glitches (like backwards-skipping through Bowser's stairs and the bunny glitch)

Ok, so I watched this video and was very impressed. Therefore, having just purchased an N64, I decided to try and perform a few of the tricks in the video. After about 3hrs of experimenting, I managed to replicate all of the glitches he uses and many of the tricks he uses to get stars. After having done so, I feel absolutely no sense of accomplishment. But it was kinda cool.
Hey, this is my spring break!

Bugs or not, that's awesome! In fact, the fact that you can take advantage of bugs like that is pretty badass.
Anyone have a link to NES or SNES videos like this?
