Inspired by the great N64 case project and the inserts over at snackbargames.com I wanted to try to do the same with some older carts. I used the same case that Media shelving sells.

http://www.mediashelving.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=W&Product_Code=USCG&Category_Code=MED

I had to use an exacto knife to remove part of the lower cart holders on either side of the case

Well, i do have one case like the ones that you used, although i would need 7. I could dremmel it, but if i did i'd get plastic in my eyes..

That is way excellent. That reminds me: I used to use Telegames UK plastic cases (they used to sell them) for 2600 games:

A VCS game just fitted in there nicely

Very nice. Makes me regret selling off all my 5200 titles.

Not to worry. I got a multi-cart, :D

wow nice work there... I love the way the box spines look. When you say you "made" a few inserts, what went into that? Just a scan and crop job?

The case I used came from Meda Shelving. They sell them by the 100 for $50. There was a guy on ebay selling them for 1.25 each.

I used scans that i found on atariage.com and used photoshop to make inserts. I made just a simple grey background. Then i took all the images i need from the scans. Placed them all where they needed to be. Then I retyped all the text on the box. Because the scans I got of the net didnt have the spine scanned I had to make my own. I like my spines much better than what was on the original box. I wanted to keep most of the box the same as the original. The hardest part of doing that was finding the old warner logo. I also added the Atari CX number of the card to the bottom of the spine.

Today I noticed that the images on the front of the case werent centered so I fixed that while I was making some more inserts.

Very nice! Using these I can pull all the loose carts out of plastic tubs and put them on the shelf. :) You have PM.

LOL That happened to me when I was widening the cartridge slot on a Genesis 2 last week. The FIVE seconds I put my goggles up, a bunch of plastic shavings shoot up into my eyes. :/ I ended up picking a huge chunk of Genny plastic from beneath my eyelid, not to mention any fiberglass dust from the cutting wheel.

I started to dremel mine but it was kinda a mess. Plastic was either melting or flinging everywhere. I found it alot easier to us an exacto knife. Making little cuts at a time. I also had to put some ducttape down so i wouldnt scrach or cut the bottom of the case.

Original or not, I think they look awesome! Those will look so much better on the shelf than just loose carts.

Made some more inserts. The third party inserts are more difficult to do.

I love DIY projects like this. Any chance you could do some N64 boxes? I hate storing those loose...

EDIT: Just read the first line of your thread. Sorry!

Sweet idea!!!! I just bought a 2 port 5200. The 5200 is a badass system and the games are great.

I have all my carts on a shelve. They would look so juicey in cases like that. Only i would need 24 of them for my games. Where do you get cases like this??? They kinda look like my SNES cases. Except they are yellow and don't have plastic on the outside to put an insert.

8-) 5200 rocks!

I am a big part of the N64 project over at CheapAss Gamer (http://www.cheapassgamer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=50941), and these cases make a big difference. I'd much rather have these sturdy cases then a bunch of crunched up flimsy cardboard. I will definitely be interested in doing some of these for the 5200.

I think he's got all of them done now. He was working with Atariage to get them hosted online so they could be d/l for free.
