The Nintendo cabs are actually lighter than just about any other cab out there, and the have wheels on them which makes moving them a snap.
Also, gonna move this one over to the Alley. :)

playchoice cabs are quite nice cabs, i've got a super deluxe machine with the 10" monitor at the top, but the problem is with the dual monitors that could go tits up compared to just the one in normal cabs, bottom monitor on mine is awaiting repair :( least the 10" did not die, there's no lopts for them made anymore, 20" lopts are plentyful lucally!
anyway, if you need any help with your cab, feel free to give me a shout, as i've had mine to bits twice and know it inside out!

i may be asking you alot of questions, the monitor seemed to be in pretty good shape. and everything seemed to be in great working order, but you never know when something could go wrong.
are these cabs hard to find? i havent seen any in years

are there any diffrences between playchoice and playchoice 10 game chips?
Hammy
03-04-2006, 01:54 PM
well, there's 3 versions of the playchoice motherboard:
playchoice 10 dual monitor
playchoice 10 single monitor
playchoice 5 (very very rare)
dual monitors are fairly common cabs (at least here in the uk)
single monitors are about as rare as your average dedicated cab
and playchoice 5 was a kit iirc for nintendo vs system cabs. but they also did playchoice 10 kits for vs cabs, so ops went with the 10.
the rarest carts are:
shatterhand and RBI baseball, mario open golf and gradius.

I've seen both cabs but what do the carts look like? What would a Playchoice single monitor be worth?
Hammy
03-04-2006, 02:48 PM
the carts are just small pcb's with a couple of roms, some carts also have battery back up on them.
as for prices of cabs, single and dual are worth about the same, as the single monitor is rarer, but 2 monitors are worth a considarable bit on their own.

Eventually I would like to have one of those. I know a few places around here where I can pick them up to.

OK, not to piss on anyone's parade, but is there really any advantage to a Playchoice 10 over just a normal NES? I've never understood the attraction to these things, but I'm a player, not a collector. I just didn't know if I'm missing something on the game side by not checking them out.

i think its just bragging rights, and im going to put it in my game store and make some money off if it, and play it myself :)
its just cool to play oldschool games in the arcade also.

Nope. The games are identical to the NES releases, they're just in a different package. As Neo-Zen said, there are just some folks who dig 'em in that setup. :)

IIRC, there are slots on the mobo (similar to the card slots on your PC mobo) where you just plug in the different game boards. When you remove the back door, you'll see the mobo near the bottom of the cab. If, f'rinstance, it has 5 games out of 10 on the menu, you should see 5 slots filled.

Yup, the mobo sits inside that cage. :) It should have plastic push-pin rivets that you can pull out a bit and then you can pull off the end cover and easily slide the board(s) out. They sit in little grooves in the wood at the top and bottom of the cage. You might have to remove the ribbon cables from the cage cover first to pull the boards out all the way.

Excitebike is different.
There are two more tracks right? 6 and 7?
No design option like the NES version.
Also there's a bonus stage jumping over trucks.
And there's a thing called "excitebike", I saw someone get it by lapping the green opponent (I don't know really). But your guy was yellow and black and never overheated, it lasted until you (or he) crashed.
But that game is similar to the nes version, just a little more.

Excitebike is different.
If you're talking about the PC-10 version, that's incorrect. The Vs. Unisystem version of Excitebike is different. The PC-10 version is the NES version.
PlayChoice cabinets are big NESes.
Vs. Unisystem cabs are not.

That's right!
It was the split one. Was I right about the exitebike yellow and black part?

If you mean the coveted "Gold Bike" yeah, you can get a gold bike if you meet certain criteria. :)

That's it, I never attained it. Although watching a guy do that he told me about knocking off the green dude twice or something. It never happened on my quarter!
I do have it in mame but again, never got the gold bike..ever.
