Well, today (Mar 4) was the last day that Toys R Us #7529 (Medford, MA) was open for business. The place was a zoo with people stocking up on what crap was left over for 80% off. Wednesday, my RZone was closed permanently, what little electronics that were left were merched on the wall or on 4-ways on the main salesfloor. The end of a legacy...
Wed and Thursday night were dead and mostly spent reading Dark Tower V: Wolves of the Calla by Stephen King (for $8.65 an hour, ain't life grand!) but today was INSANE. So, I've lost a very cushy position in a halfway decent company and have to start all over again somewhere else, but all is not lost. First off, getting paid to sit around and read and wait for the occasional customer to need to be rung up wasn't half bad, and second of all, getting crap for 90% off. I hoarded (against company rules) a nice-sized pile of games and bought them all today for 90% off. Here is what I made off with:
First Act electric bass guitar: $16.99
X-Men Ultimate Collection DVD boxset: $2.99
Spider-Man 2 DVD boxset: $3.99
GBA Gunstar Super Heroes: $2.99
GC Baten Kaitos (with TRU exclusive soundtrack CD):
$2.99
GBA Micro Leather Sleeve: $1.49
Playstation 1 memory card: $1.49
DS Castlevania Dawn of Sorrow: $3.49
DS Battles of Prince of Persia: $3.99
GC Batallion Wars: $4.99
GC Pokémon XD: $4.99
GC Killer 7: $2.99
PS2 Getaway: Black Monday: $4.99
PS2 Rise of Kasai: $3.99
DS Trace Memory: $3.49
I could've gotten a bunch of 99cent games too but I had too many games on hold and my manager told me I had to buy some of them, so I bought all my $10 games back during the 50% off, so got them for $5. The games I got for $5 were
XB BloodRayne 2
XB SNK vs Capcom: SVC Chaos
XB Demon Stone
DS Feel the Magic XX/XY
GBA Broken Sword: The Shadow of the Templars
GBA Golden Sun: The Lost Age
So, for 4 years of exceptional service, I get all my accrued vacation and earned time in a lump sum, 4 weeks' pay severence, and a hell of a deal of video games and a bass. *shrugs* could be worse.
And now that my tenure at TRU is over, I'll be working at GameStop until I get a position at Comcast, the area's cable company ($12 an hour, free cable and internet) They're looking to hire a lot of new bodies and my dad knows someone whose a higher-up. My chances are very good. It'll suck to only work for GameStop for a short time (especially since the last time I worked there lasted only 2 weeks) but Comcast is definitely the better job: $12 compared to $7 (I could stop right there), more hours available, more flexible, better benefits. I would be stupid not to at least try to get in there. And since I really can't afford to be unemployed even for a few weeks and since my boyfriend's boss at GS offered me the job w/o a shadow of a doubt (and despite the fact that there are hardly any hours for new hires) might as well make use of it (and make use of 15% off at GS and 30% off at Barnes and Noble). No matter where I end up in the long run, it's all just to get me through college. Once I'm graduated, I'm a bona-fide music teacher and I'll have me a REAL career :)
Well, I just wanted to share that, cuz I like sharing. And I wanted to flaunt my awesome video game deals. And man, an electric bass for $17! WHOO.
