View Full Version : Rolling lines on SNES and NES screen... normal?

I just bought a nice minty SNES off eBay. I have a 27" Wega and a Gamecube Monster S-Video cable, which I thought would be the perfect combination for SNES.

Sadly, when I was playing I was distracted by rolling lines or 'waves' on the screen, going from the bottom left corner to the upper right.

It wasn't my S-Video cable.... composite and RF Switch produced the same lines. I hooked up my NES and I saw the same phenomenon.. Yet when I view content on Gamecube, PS2, or my media center PC, I get no lines.

Tried another TV. Didn't see lines, but it was small so I don't know.

So people of Digital Press, help me out please.

Is it that...

1. SNES and NES have always had waves in their output, and they were not inteded to be played on such a large and modern screen (....kinda modern)

2. My SNES and NES have rotted. This is what happens to consoles when they get older. Say it aint so. Or, maybe it's just the AC adaptor?

3. It's a dirty power thing. TV and NES/SNES are plugged straight into the wall, no clean power bar. Maybe Cube/PS2/Media Center PC have better ways to deal with dirty power, and output a clean image anyway.

Does anyone have any insight? Thanks.

Bottom left to top right is the TV refreshing. You might wanna try connecting it differently. Also sometimes some TVs aren't as lienient when it comes to refresh rates since it needs 60khz and a lot of consoles are 59.xx so it makes those lines.

I have a 36" Wega and have no problems. I use both the composite and component inputs.

36" Wega here too, no issues with NES or SNES.
