Thare is nothing wrong with that at all. Peoples tastes can change even though it seems like retro consoles werent exactly your taste to begin with.

I think you should sell the stuff you arent happy with and get back into your true passion.

Seriously, I am.

I have almost completely lost interest in retro (console) gaming, and to be honest was never really that into it. It's unfortunate that I came to this conclusion after just getting over paying out for several hundred £s worth of dreamcast games. I've never really been happy with my collection, and hardly ever play it when I think about it.

My real love is arcade games to be honest. Although they are much more expensive, it's the feel I get from them. I actually did own a Tekken 3 for a while, but sold it due to a house move. I would now like to get back into my true passion.

The End

Hey, why not, you have to move on sometimes. Hey, arcades are good substitutes.

Its better to focus on what you truely care about. I'd love to collect arcade machines but right now I don't have the room, so I'm happy with what I am collecting currently. Always follow your heart... that was pretty lame right there.

Maybe invest in a MAME cabinet or something so you don't loose interest too fast. Yup, people's interets change. maybe just stuff your DC and games into a box and forget about them for a while. I would not jump to conclusions and sell it all right away, just give yourself some time. if you feel the same way after a year, then dump the stuff, or give it to me. :D

yeah. Maybe selling stuff you dont play and investing in a nice mame cabinet would be more yer thing.

Few Hundred bucks and a nice project to keep you busy.

Well I have sometimes felt the same way (like when I got a 360) but I always come back to my reto games (in terms of buying them), I will NEVER let go of my retro collection.

...but yea, buy what you like, sell what you don't.

I've personally migrated away from PC gaming and back to console gaming since becoming fed up with always having to upgrade my PC just to play the latest games, and while I miss playing hot new first person shooters, I've been having a blast playing wacky shit you don't find on PC (I just fired up King of Route 66 earlier this evening and had a ball).

While I'd love to collect arcade games, I really don't have the space for them and I'm reasonably sure if I dropped any change on an arcade setup, my wife would fucking kill me. many times over.

Yes, my friend, You must build a Mame/Emulation Cabinet.

You can build one for less than a new Xbox and a couple of games.

Check out www.arcadecontrols.com

It is so easy now a days with little electronics knowledge.
(and that you can learn quick)

You can play all the arcade classics in an arcade upright..

There have been times, where I have wondered if my retrogaming facisnation has simply been a passing fad, and that I would grow tired of it, and go back to only playing current gen, or god forbid, not even playing video games much!

But of course it was short lived and quite foolish, really. I have bounced back and forth from playing retro games, to going back to my XBOX and PS2, and then going back to retro, and then going all Xbox 360, and then going back to retro, etc, etc. I'm pretty sure that with most gamers that are into retro but also have current and next gen systems, this is the normal way. Nothing unusual at all about it. At first it seemed alarming to me, and I almost felt embarassed for sinking as much time and $ as I did at first.

But now, I've simply come to the conclusion that I love video games in all forms, and I will embrace them in all forms. Of course, my wife, and the amount of discretionable space have alot to do with which consoles I'll own at any particular given time, but I'm simply a fan of video games in all it's various forms.

GAME ON bro.

Just sell, what you don't play any more and keep the rest ;)

Burnout in video games... do happen some times you need a break from it all.

Great sound advice there. I find when I burn out is when I focus FAR TOO MUCH on games. Honestly, right now I'm way too focus on games... I should be doing other things... if I keep this up I know I will burn out.

My best gaming memories usually come after a hard day of "being out in the real world taking care of business" then plopping down home for a nice little gaming session. I dunno why but nothing beats that.

But when you stay home all day and do nothing but game, I dunno I guess it doesn't feel right.

Best to live a productive, healthy life outside games, and use games as a retreat after other priorities are taken care of. That's my 2 cents. I need to cut back myself... I've got retro gaming on my mind far too much.... @_@

It isn't so bad to cut back. I recently was forced to be in bed for about a week, and in that time I played my DS non-stop. In the past, I have always kept my collection of games around for a long time, but after playing through most of my DS collection, I decided that I wasn't really planning on collecting for it, and of the 50ish games I had, I wasn't ever going to play 30 or more of them again. While the collector in me wanted to keep them all, the realist in me won out, and I've eliminated the games that I know I won't be going back to and I am down to about 15 now.

After doing that with the DS, I have started doing that with my GameCube, GameBoy Advance and PS1 collections. I've been playing things until I'm sure that I will never play them again, and then happily selling them. I realized that I have a backlog of nearly 500 games that I haven't played, and I am only really trying to collect for the Dreamcast and Jaguar (and kinda, sorta Neo Geo Pocket) so why not catch up on the others and use the proceeds to get some of the DC and Jaggy things that I'm missing?

Times change, people change... and it's okay to change a little with them. I am completely different now than I was just a couple months ago, and while it is a bit strange feeling, it is also kind of nice :)

Heh, why does this unrealistic perception continue to persist that if you don't have huge collections of games you're not a player? Heck, if I just owned the games I wanted, I'd be set. I wouldn't buy anything else. You don't buy them for anybody else - just yourself.

Like many have said, sell off what you no longer want. I sold many of my systems (Jag, 3Do, a few Genesis models, Dreamcast, Laseractive, Master System, etc) and bought a few that I really wanted (Neo, Turbo Duo). I know this is a bit different from what you’re doing but you get the point.

I wouldn’t suggest purging your entire collection though, keep what you really like even if you don’t play it anymore. You never know how you’ll feel in 5 years. Games you never play and never will, sell them!

You sound just like me a couple of years ago. My advice? Cut that crap loose - you'll feel great.

you can always try that dreamcast arcade module thing and stick the DC into a cab and play the acrade ports that way

Thanks.

Some good advice there. I'll tell you what, I'll but most of my rarer games in storage for the future, and I'll keep only my most favourite games out so I can play them all.

I still have the ultimate dream of owning a Sega Rally sitdown cab, as I have wanted one since I first saw it.

When I think about it, I'm more of a mid ninties sega gamer (saturn, dreamcast, etc.) So owning SNES and what not arn't really my thing, as I simply don't find them fun.

I guess that makes me a semi-retro gamer, eh?

It's a matter of collecting what you want vs. scoring a complete collection. Other than repros, my NES collection is complete. No, not all 700+ games. The way I want it. No AVE games will enter my system, nor will those from Wisdom Tree/Color Dreams, or, for instance, the likes of Predator or Hydlide. That's my general rule: get an emulator and all the games, and try out each one before you start buying. And if you score any dupes via lots, recycle it on eBay. :D

Exactamundo.

This is how I acquire all my new gaming items (new to me, not brand new). The stuff that I have that is collecting dust for a long time, and the extra's and doubles, etc, etc, have to go. Then that provides funds for other things I'm trying to get. It's the great circle of life!

I look at this thread title and think that myself sometimes. Then I wonder if so then why have I just opened 11 other threads in the classic gaming forum to read. LOL
