Are new Playstation games still being released? I see Playstation 1 games at Gas stations and all kinds of strange places, and it seems like there is this never ending flow of Playstation games. The PS2 came out in October of 2000, but here we are in the year 2006, and if I'm not mistaken, new Playstation games continue to trickle out here and there. Maybe I'm incorrect, and the final U.S. Playstation game has been released, and there will be no more new Playstation 1 games showing up, but it just seems like they keep showing up, and might continue all the way into 2007 and 2008. How long of a freaking run is that?

It started on 9 - 9 - 95, and here we are, almost 11 years later, and games are still trickling out. Anybody have a list of the most recent Playstation releases? I saw some weird games at a Gas Station and I'm curious if they are some of the most recent releases.

I know that my WalMart still has a small PS1 selection. It's pretty crazy when you think that there is a chance by the end of the year the PS3 will be out. It makes you wonder how long we'll still be seeing PS2 games.

Not as long, given the platform is tougher to program for. The PS1 was lucky in that you can play the games on any console in the series (aside from the Portable "PlayStation," which obviously won't play PSX games and whose games might not be compatible with the main series of consoles except perhaps in the way a GBA game is compatible with a GameCube - through the link adapter). I'm sure that PS2 versions of top games will be available for some time, but as PS3 games become more advanced we'll see the similarities slipping away just as has happened with the latest football games on the PSX.

Yeah, the last release was FIFA. There are no more games being released, but that doesn't mean stock isn't still out there.

You guys are lucky you can still get PSone games easily. Round my way, it's all Xbox, X360 and PS2.

The only place round here with PSone games is Gamestation's crappy second-hand section. Although I did get a mint copy of Castlevania Chronicles this moring. There is hope yet....

for trivias sake, what was the last official US release?

is there any chance sony will open up PSX development for free/virtually nothing, there is some pretty good homebrew opportunities in dem dar playstation waters.

and on another side note, why havent we seen more low end DVD games that take advantage of the PSX controller? youd think that would be a great way to backdoor your way onto the PS2 format without having to pay a Sony license fee.

I'll say. Out here in the stix [PAL regions, like NZ], it's so hard to find good games in second hand stores. Needless to say it's impossible to see any new games.

I have to rely on auctions to get what I want, and even then the selection is sorely limited.

I remember looking at Wal-Mart's bins a few months ago and seeing a PS1 version of Madden 2005.

Last US released PlayStation game came out in October 2004. Fifa 05 got the nod as the final 'new' game here in America (with Madden 05 released that September, and Sony's GameDay 05 released that August). Early 05 saw the GH release of DDR Konamix and as far as I know that was the last Official channeled release. Since then GQD (Game Quest Direct) has gotten the official ok (from the publishing companies) to reprint some of the rarer PS RPG's (Persona 2, Rhapsody, Saiyuki: Journey West along with some PS2 games). Anything your seeing now is either coming out of surplus stocks, or were stragglers from the great beyond.

because they would be horrible games, or play like dragon's lair.

I personally think Sony should resurect the Yaroze project. I have great respect for Sony for the whole Yaroze thing, and it should be made available to more people. I'm sure they learnt a lot from the initial project, and could improve upon what they did.

there are a crapload of horrible games on the PS2 that would probably be better off being DVD games (the Friends game, the Guy Game, The Bible Game, etc).

So no new Playstation games were released in 2005? Wow, I guess there must be alot of back stock and wherehouse stock that has been liquidated or something.

Nope. Well a GH game, but that wasn't a NEW new game.

Remember this system had ALOT of games made, though they are drying up in the main channel retailers, these other lesser retailers and random places are probably getting these for cheep cheep and trying to make some money. I've never personally seen any for sale in any Gas Stations or anything, but for about a year my College bookstore sold them because they could. I never saw any sell, but damned if they didn't try.

Yeah, I know it's kinda funny. In Northern California, along isolated streches of 1-5 there is this one Gas Station chain, I can't think of the name of it, but it's like a freaking cross between a Wal-Mart and a Gas Station. It's really weird. They sell all kinds of crap in there. They had a bunch of obscure Playstation games, but the games were crap games, although, who knows, they might end up being rare games 10 years from now.

Has there been a definitive answer yet about whether the PS3 will be backwards compatible?
