View Full Version : Aero Fighters on SNES -- who owns it/has played it?

How good (or disappointing) is it? I know DP says it's an R8 and $25 (I'm not sure I agree with $25, it seems a lot higher, right?)... I'm curious if it plays any good. Slowdown?
I keep thinking I see this one at the flea markets but it's really Aerobiz every time -- LOL that kills me! :P

lol I just found this video on SNES AF.... no slowdown that I can see except a bit near the end when he uses a bomb on the boss (OMG look at that boss! A MONKEY? WTH??! I LOVE IT! LOL )
Game looks pretty good. I wonder why it had a limited release?

I played this game so long ago when I got into emulation. I remember it was pretty damn fun and ran really smooth and quick. As for the price, DP's are more of a generalization, it doesn't really adjust towards ebay demand and what not.
It's kind of funny...I was in gamecrazy the other day, and the guy was telling me all about different games people try to special order, then he showed me a list of games that are not allowed to be ordered. Aero Fighters for SNES was on there. There were others like Stadium Events & Uforia for NES, both splatterhouse games, rainbow islands (on genesis?), a lot of snk fighters for DC, Marvel vs Capcom 2 for ANYTHING it was released on. I guess they just got tired of those getting put in the system all the time and never showing up, lol.

Yeah I wonder if people put these games on special order, the employees actually get a copy, and just buy it themselves and tell the buyer later "sorry we never got a copy in."
I actually placed an order with them for Earthbound a while back. Haven't heard squat from them yet.

Aero Fighters is great fun, but I went through this one a good 15 times without continuing until the last boss. It's real short too. Not critical flaws, but it's not something that will last you more than a few hours.

I love this game! It does get slow when the screen is full of planes and bullets, though. It might not do that when emulated.
There's a compilation disk for the Japanese Saturn that combines elements from all the Sonic Wings (Aero Fighters) games... It's called Sonic Wings Special. It comes in one of those double CD cases with a tiny music CD. I love it better.

I own Aero Fighters for SNES and Sonic Wings Special for Saturn, and I have to agree that SWS is better than AF. But SWS doesn't have all the levels from AF, it only has the best of them. So if you want to experience the original arcade game in all its glory, AF for SNES is the only way to go, without spending even more on the NeoGeo cart. SWS is just a compilation disc of all the best levels from AF 1-3.

Chalk me up as another vote for Sonic Wings Special. I really dig the "greatest hits" feel of the game as the seires has it's moments and SWS puts all those moments together. I know that doesn't answer your question. I'd pick it up, but that's just me.
(BTW, SWS is also avaliable on PSX and as best I can tell, this is pretty much the same game as the arcade Sonic Wings Limited.)

SWS is in fact available on the PSOne, there was a budget re-release from Hamster/Major Wave (has a yellow/orange/red spine card if that helps anyone) on their Arcade Hits label for 1500 yen. It doesn't come with the tiny music CD though. I'd imagine due to it's re-release and budget price it shouldn't be too difficult to find a copy of it.

Aero Fighters is by far one of my favorite Snes games, definately pick it up if you can find it. Two player mode rocks the house. 8-)

Yes, 2 player mode had some very hilarious [by which I mean weird] dialogue between the characters.

I found the arcade port to be alright, but not great. It's nuts to see the game go over $100 on ebay, because I believe the game should cost just ten bucks. Or I can get the arcade perfect port of Sonic Wings which just came out on the PS2 for over $20.

yup I have Sonic Wings Special (c'mon, I might have sold over 100 plus Saturn games recently) but I've kept that one! :P
It does have that funky little CD, haha. I think I got it for $30-ish back in 2004.
AF on SNES goes for 100?? No way... @_@

I would love to see what my ultra-mint copy of AF would fetch for me on ebay, if I was willing to sell it. It doesn't have a box, but beyond that both the cart and manual look as though they just came out of a factory sealed box, and I have never seen a used copy of AF in anywhere near that condition on ebay. They all look like a dog chewed them up.

It's not completely arcade perfect I'm afraid (I own it). Since it's a budget release (like all the Hamster arcade releases), just like all the vertical oriented game releases by Hamster, it lacks TATE. Only a standard yoko mode is avaliable. Oh, they're also on blue CD's of death... all of them.

Ahem. Well, I must brag a bit here. I have a boxed, complete Aero Fighters for SNES. It is a really fun game, although it is a tad short. The 2 player mode is great, and I've never noticed any slow down. Most rare games are rare cause the kinda suck, but Aero Fighters is a rare game that, IMHO, is pretty good. My likes!

I absolutely love Aero Fighters.
A long time ago, I passed on an ex-rental copy for $5, opting instead to buy Aerobiz and U.N. Squadron.
Then somewhere around February of last year I found out that you could special order games from gamecrazy, and I drove about half an hour to one gamecrazy, only to find out that they were closing in two weeks, so I had to drive approximately 1hr to get to another and place an order at another. The guy there said that they usually cancel orders after a few months, so when around June I stil hadn't gotten a call, I figured I would never get a copy w/o paying through the nose for it.
Then around Thanksgiving, my dad called and said my game was in. I urged him to go and pick it up as soon as possible (I was going to college in another state), and I finally got my copy of Aero Fighters for the low low price of $12.
I guess I ordered a copy just before it went on the do not order list.

Sweet game. I'm limited to playing it through emulation though. :( Here's hoping I find a copy someday.

I generally just play it at the arcade down at the beach. It's 25 cents a game and has that great feeling. I love shooters but generally suck at them and never make it to bosses. This though is a great game and I've been trying to get it on the SNES for awhile. I've seen it on Ebay for $15 "Buy it now" and all, but nothing I want to spend for it. It's another game I'm just waiting and dreaming it'll show up at a pawn shop for $1...

This is exactly how I got my copy last year. Only took them a week. About $10 after the $6 special order fee.
It's not a bad game just feels pretty standard. Even being on the SNES I just didn't come away that impressed.

DAMN! Now I really wanna know what I could get for mine! I had no idea that boxed complete copies went for that much now. If I could find a box for mine, it would be worth some serious cash. Not that it isn't worth some serious cash without the box, but with one it would be worth even more. But I bet that I could get that much for mine even without the box, just because it's in perfect mint condition.

Usually the price skyrockets if it is complete just because the people willing to pay that kind of money are trying to finish sets and want them boxed. The guy I talked to only needed this and Starfox Weekend Comp cart to have a complete boxed set.
Complete copies show up about once a year on ebay.
There was a boxed copy no instructions that sold for $150 that was mint condition.
So I would think yours with manual would fetch around
$125-$150 range without the box. The box makes a big deal for these collectors who want complete games.

:D
My copy of Aero Fighters came in the mail today and I just spent 30 minutes or so playing it til I got Game Over with 2 different ships.
I like it. It's definitely a keeper... and I knew it was going to be a good game, the question was HOW good. Pretty good. It doesn't set the world on fire but for SHMUP fans, this is right up your alley.
My only complaint is this:
No turbo button! :/
My hand was getting tired, heh. Looks like I'll be picking up a turbo controller to truly enjoy this game. Most SHMUPS are nonstop fire, I dislike shooters where you have to keep pressing the fire button. Maybe that's just me. But man, carpel tunnel syndrome lol.
Other than that minor complaint, a very solid game from top to bottom. Well worth $35.

You should buy a SNES it's such a great system. If not, sell it. You could easily make $35 from it. Maybe more.

I have a factory sealed aero fighter, snes. tiny bit of wear but near mint. back vertical line and vent holes, meets all my sealing criteria. I don't know how many sealed ones people have seen but would be interested to know.
BTW, Just got mine about 3 weeks ago from a dp member

Great game. Who needs turbo anyway??? None of my custom HAPP sticks have turbo on em, including the one i built for SNES.
