I don't know about you guys but when I heard 3DO was done for I was left in a state of depression haha.
But, I was watching good old G4 yesterday, Cinematech was on and they showed to me a clip from Heroes of Might and Magic 5!
I turned to the handy internet a moment later to find that the developers at Ubisoft have decided to pick up on this great title. I'm excited as all hell.
For any other fans of the series go here to get your fill of the new HOMM

Yea, I've been wanting some Heroes for a long time now too....I was missing that stuff big time.

Haha, yea Chris, I think those damn Army Men games marked the steady downfall of 3DO...that and Might and Magtic 9......that was a poorly made wastre of serious cash

what was sad with army men, was a symptom seen with a lot of games in the PSX generation. A good or decent game would come out, then the developer would just pile endless sequels on top of the original. Army Men, Turok, Tomb Raider and other games suffered from this fate, and (personally) made the legacy of the PSX look cheap.

That's really why I wouldn't personally try to collect PS games, too many shitty sequels that I would never, ever want to buy. I can deal with a shitty original IP, coz, hey, at least they're trying somthing new, with with all those Army Men games it just seems like dumping.

They actually ran a Beta test for this a little over a month ago. I heard a bit about interface complaints and bad network code. A petition (http://www.saveheroes.org/petition/) was put out by fans, basically begging Ubi Soft not to release it as scheduled and instead push it back to work out the complaints so as not to release a buggy, unentertaining mess. Whether the petition was the cause or not, they've actually pushed back the release now.
Ubi Soft is also working on Might and Magic 10, but it's been months since I've heard anything news on it. When they announced both games, they stated that they're using all new settings/canon, since they have few if any of the original designers working for them, and don't want to have to force continuity with a background they didn't make from scratch.

I heard about the beta, and was happy to hear about the pushback. Hopefully some stuff gets worked out and it turns out great! I love this series to death, and am a little woried about it's transformation, but hopefully this comes out right.

100% with you hellvin. I'm hoping for it to be damn good, I'm hoping for it to keep up with the others in the series. We need a really good one, since I didnt care for the fourth one in the series too much at all. I hope all goes well and they get the complaints worked out
Might and Magic 10 you say? Even more great news, I have not heard that. Let's hope the same for this game. Better live up to the name and be better then the lowly Might and Magic 9.
