...and this is the surprise that greeted me:

I think I have the roms somewhere at home to re-convert it back though. I think I'm going to stick with Elevator Action for awhile though.

Awesome! I love Jungle King, but Elevator Action is the superior game IMO. :D

...and after leaving it on for a few hours to 'burn in', now the graphics are garbled. ah well. hopefully just a case of adjusting the 5v.

well, that got me nowhere. this issue is kind of confusing.
game was working fine right after i installed the new power supply, and like i said in the earlier post, i left it on for a few hours to make sure everything was working a-ok. i came back to find all the graphics garbled. it plays fine blind, but everything is a mess graphic wise. i replugged in all the connectors on the board sandwich, and kind of half assedly reseated all the roms. adjusting +5 voltage didn't have any result either. any ideas?

chances are it's the ram or rom on the pcb. 5 volts should be about +5.1v

hmm, i hope that's not the case. is there any way to test them out? or am i going to be shopping for a new board?

check the power supply with a multimeter, if you've been silly and gone up to 6v, you've prolly toasted the odd componant.
i don't know the prices for the older boards, but some people like the challenge of fixing them. if your new to it, try shotgunning the board chip by chip and test it when you've replaced everything on it.
if your not upto a fix, keep the board for parts and get another. elevator action is not that rare from what i remember i've been offered it before.

no, when I had the game running happily, it was at a nice balmy 5.05v. i think I may have jacked it up to about 5.1v just to see if that would clear up the graphic problem, but nothing higher than that.
anyway, all of that info is kind of null and void now. i had the great idea to see what would happen if i reconverted it back to jungle king, so i took the board home (the game is in my office at work), found the jungle king roms, and went to work. good thing all the of the pins on the jk roms were bent, but i carefully bent them all back and switched everything up. this morning when i got to work, i put the board in, fired everything up...andddd....nothing. now all i get is a white screen.
ebay here i come.
there's actually several proper taito boards on there, i wish i knew if my jungle king roms were good though, because a board with say...frontline...on it, is going to be cheaper than a jungle king or elevator action board.
