View Full Version : Do you ever think: WOW I cant belive I own this.
This is mostly gaming related, but is there any item you own that you cant belive you have in your collection.
Or a game your that makes you happy that you own a copie of it?
Or even a collection of games that you are proud to own.

When I started collecting games I was just married and we barely had two dimes to rub together (1998). I had my NES from back in the day, my SNES and a Playstation I bought before I moved out with my wife.
I clearly remember the early days of eBay and looking at games like Metal Slug and systems like the Turbo Duo. I remember thinking that there was no way in hell I’d ever be able to afford them.
My collection pales in comparison to many here but I do have a healthy collection of 22 systems including a MVS Neo Geo collection (yep, including Metal Slug) and a Duo R, I feel pretty blessed.
I feel my largest “I can’t believe that thing is mine” is either my house or my home theater. Growing up on welfare and living in apartments my entire life owning a home is something I’d never thought I’d have. The same goes with my home theater. Granted, it’s taken me years and lots of hard work but my HT is currently sitting at close to $17,000. I had to insure it separately and do a total cost estimate (that's how I know the current total, I don't normally keep track). If I would have gone out and simply signed a check it would have been a different story but I worked for many of my pieces ($$ from side home theater installs and subwoofer sales) and other than the small amount left on my HT chair loan (gotta love that 0% interest!), I don’t owe a dime on any of it.
Wow I've seen your set up I figured an impressive set up like that would either be owned by a rich man or a fool deep in debt.

Oh yeah. I still love that I've finally gotten to see and play, much less own, some of the stuff that I drooled over back when it was "coming soon." And even if I don't play it nearly frequently enough, the old behemoth of an arcade cabinet sitting right behind me always puts a smile on my face. I love my whole little room full of goodies, and I know how lucky I am to have all of 'em.

Steel Battalion.
Not because of the cost, just because of the sheer enormity of it. I can't help but think, "Wow, I'm a giant nerd" everytime I catch a glance at it.

Although not a huge deal to many, all of those Neo Geo boxes on my gaming shelf really stand out to me as something to behold. To me the Neo was the holy grail since I first laid eye on one back in 1991. Although not really expensive, my Famicom and Super Famicom are really cool to see every day. They can be found for little $$ but it’s really neat to own a piece of history.

My red PS2.
When I was younger, I used to read theOfficial PlayStation Magazine, and I remember me and my mates all drooling over the pictures of the five LE PS2 models, and dreaming of owning one. I think OPM did a contest at some point to win one, and I was gutted when I didn't.
Then, years later, I was shocked to find out that Sony still had some in stock on their website, albeit at a very inflated price. I decided that the asking price was reasonable (And I had the spare cash anyway) so decided to take the plunge and splurge out on it.
I look at it sitting in the corner now, and still can't believe that I have one. Something that I once believed I would never ever own, and I have it sitting pride of place!
Another item I thought i'd never have is my Pink Hello Kitty Dreamcast. Same story as with the PS2, and still can't believe I have one.
There are many games in my collection which I never thought i'd ever own a sealed copy of. A few spring to mind, like Suikoden, Samba De Amigo, and Paper Mario. I never thought i'd ever own those games, let alone a sealed copy!!!

Having just started to get NES games the only "I can't believe I own it" is Dragon Warrior 4. But that also has to do with the fact that I had never played the first one until this year. After that I had to try to get them all and 4 was the first one I was able to pick up at a good price and I have been able to pick up the missing pieces for it and it should be complete within a couple weeks.
I used to say I can't believe I own 2 arcade machines but when I got married I had to sell both of them because we're living in a 1 bedroom appartment. I really wish I hadn't had to but I'll get them back some day...

Mine would be my "full service" gaming setup in general, a little paradise for video game players. (Man, I need to get some RoD pictures) But out of that stuff, the things I get up at 2 AM to polish the dust off of are the PC Engine Duo and Neo Geo AES, the things I used to ogle over the most in those early 90s EGM issues.
I also have a rough layout drawing Rob Liefeld did on a "how to draw comics" video, I love to show the video to people so they can see Rob draw it, then I show them the original.
Other than that, it'd be... uh, my super limited edition Satoshi Urushihara Poster Box.

Aero Fighters for the SNES. Ever since I found out that it's an R8, I still can't believe that I actually bought it way back in the day. I remember going to this one Toys R Us where I found it, after having been to every other Toys R Us and game store in town, and there it was. I wondered why they had it when no one else did, but I just figured that it had just come out and everyone else would get it soon enough. Anyhow, it looked cool, so I went ahead and got it. Now I know why no one else had it. If I had known at the time, I would've bought as many copies as I could afford, or at least one extra to keep sealed and sell for a huge profit. BTW, this all happened in the 4th largest city in the nation, so that in itself is a testament to the genuine rarity of this game. In all of Houston TX, only one store that I know of ever had it in stock, and I doubt that it was ever restocked.

Neo and PCE. Back when I was 12, these were the systems I wanted. I suppose I always knew that one day, I'd have the money for a PCE. And I did, I got an RGB modded Duo-R after many years. Excellent.
But back then, I never, ever though I'd get a Neo. As time went on, and game prices increased, the dream faded away. I always knew there was the arcade version of the Neo, but I didn't know about all this back then. Then one day, I discovered Superguns, MVS and consolization. So here I am now, with a consolized MVS and 26 games all looking very nice in Shockboxes with inserts. Even more excellent.

I can't believe I have the following:
Boxed PC-FX system. Back in the days I was so looking forward to the next PC Engine system from NEC. I had great times with the PC Engine plus CD, that at one point there was too many good games to buy and I couldn't keep up with buying the games being released. Though the PC-FX is a sleek and well designed, there are not many English friendly or Arcade games...Bummer :(
Boxed Supergrafx. Wow only 5.5 games made for this system. Hmmm 0.5 of a game huh, yup you read right, let me explain. There was a Hu-card game named Darius Plus. If you run this game on a Supergrafx vs the PC Engine, there is less flickering and the graphics were suppose to be better. I remember drooling over the pictures of the FAKE Strider SGX and Forgotten Worlds SGX. Luckily Forgotten Worlds came out on the SCD.
PC Engine. Great system that I cherish. Back in the day ppl mouthed off how crappy the TG-16 was and little did they know that the olde PC Engine had many excellent games in Japan.
Panzer Dragoon Saga (RPG) brand new and sealed. This has got to be one of my prized game posession. I bought this many years ago at EB. At the time the Saturn scene was begining to die so I packed up my Saturn and games (lack of space) and just played on my Playstation 1. Wow I owe this jem and have yet to play it :p

Honestly, today, nothing really. The "I can't believe I own it" feeling has escaped me as over time I get used to having it. I'm still grateful, but for sure that feeling has passed.
Radiant Silvergun, TAROMARU, and my Saturn collection comes to mind, although in recent times I've severely trimmed it down.
Probably the 1 thing which I was in awe of owning for the longest time was my collection of SSM (SEGA Saturn Magazine), probably the best mag publication ever. I own 34 of the 37... but am in no rush to secure the final 3 issues I need. Truly a great magazine.
But yeah, I haven't felt that feeling in years. Sometimes I wake up and look at my stuff and shake my head going "I'm pretty lucky to have all this" but rarely do I think "I can't believe I have this"

My consolized MVS & Samurai Shodown II mean a lot to me. I remember making a trip to the Galleria mall in texas with my parents (were from OK) and visiting Babbages to drool over the Neo Geo (just like I did in OK) so it means a lot to me to have one.
I got it form bunbunz23...I bet he didn't know how much it means to me! :P

Well years ago when I took the plunge and paid the same price as a PS2 (back when they were $300) for a TurboDuo package, that was a big deal. I finally had this mythical non-mainstream grey area system with the Bonk games and all the shooters and those Working Designs localized titles of which I always thought the ads for were so cool. (Vasteel and Cosmic Fantasy 2) Yet as time went on that faded as I realized there were a lot of TurboDuo's out there and the initial excitement wore off.
I really have never gotten over that I have a boxed Virtual Boy but that's not because I have a boxed Virtual Boy but instead how I obtained it. I would play the kiosk for hours when I would come across one at Toys R Us, and playing Red Alarm made me realize that it was something I had to have. (also no one bothered you when you were playing the kiosk since many didn't know what you were doing) However that Christmas I didn't end up getting one due to all the bad PR the system was getting, but I still wanted it. When they were being sold for $99 I had one under my arm in line at Toys R Us and I'm not sure if my mom did or if I talked myself out of it, but I ended up leaving it there. Then a year or so later, must have been about 15 or 16, FuncoLand had three Virtual Boy systems boxed on display behind the counter - they'd been there for awhile. Well I had some disposable cash so I figured I'd call and see how much they were or if they still even had them. They had one left, $19.99 - I couldn't have gotten there any faster. Seems they were 20 bucks for a long time but no one ever asked. This is back when Kay-Bee still had a couple cartridges here or there so I was able to also build a small archive of games locally. Then the huge bin of Teleroboxer cartridges at Toys R Us later (should have bought them all) for $4 a pop.
Having a JVC X'Eye is something that I thought would never happen - mainly because I never felt the drive to hunt one down and shell out the cash. However I came across a loose one at the local flea market for $3. The lid close pinswitch was bad but I repaired (and documented) that soon enough and it works great. Even put a US/JPN cartridge region switch in it (documented that too).
Aside from that, I have lots of cool stuff, I've also sold lots of cool stuff especially over the past couple years since employment has been a mess - but if there is one thing that really means a lot to me, it has to be the Legend of Zelda wristwatch wall clock...
http://www.startoursinfo.com/junk/pics-zeldaclock08.jpg
Yeah, it was in the World of Nintendo catalog Nintendo Power insert in 1990 but as of today I only know of three total to exist including mine. Slate of the DP forums has one, myself, and one other person that contacted me via e-mail a couple years ago. If you have one of these clocks, and I mean personally own (not "I saw that on eBay once" or "I saw one of those but it was just the clock part") then please let me know or post such in this thread (http://www.digitpress.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=61745). I'd love to be proved wrong at how rare these are but as I see it not many survived or were even ordered to begin with. Oh yeah, mine came from eBay - don't know how I got it so cheap, must have been fate since after the auction ended I kept getting offers for resale for a week or so.

I sometimes get that feeling when I look at some of my rarer, limieted print games. Stuff that that I have where I can say that I am 1 out of only about 1000 people gets me going sometimes. It has to be pretty rare though, do be able to have an effect on me. Even my SNES competition cartridges don't really give me that feel, but things like Stadium Events (NES) and Spiker! (INTV) really get my heart-a-poudin.

My numbered copy of Seamus Heaney's poetry book "A Shiver". A Nobel Literature prize winner, only 300 copies of this booklet were printed. And I got one.
In monetary terms, it is already worth a lot more than i paid for it - and I can only forsee that going up. But also it feels weird to have something that so many people would want, and will never be able to have ... plus I love poetry, and it is very nice to have a very special poetry piece in my collection. There's not much 'collectable' poetry around ... and still less that I would ever be able to get my hands on, so it's quite special to have this :)

To a very smalle extent, I feel this way about my complete and pristine Super Mario RPG. I know it isn't particularly rare, and that a lot of people here can probably say they have this too, but it's something that I personally think is really, really neat. It wouldn't be a centerpiece in most collections, but it definitely is in mine.
I also think I can say 'wow' in regards to my game collection in general. It's not much by a lot of people's standards, but to the people I hang out with, it's very highly regarded and enjoyed. When I was growing up, I was the one kid who DIDN'T have the cool new systems (Genesis, SNES, etc.), and I always loved going to friends houses and playing the stuff they had...and it stayed that way all the way through high school. But more recently, as my love and appreciation for gaming increased, I decided I wanted to be 'that guy' - the guy who had all sorts of fun stuff. I've only been collecting now for about a year and a half, and have accumulated 430+ games for 20 systems. Looking at "the wall of games" in my basement brings a smile to my face almost every time. I consider myself lucky to have the collection I have, which definitely brings me to a 'wow' from time to time.

Nothing really, I've had the feeling before but not now. After finding a Top-Loader NES for 20$, even though it's my best find ever, I don't really think "Wow, I own a toploader anymore." I was also really happy when I found a copy of Bust a Move 3000 after looking for it in the wild for over 2 years. But nothing latley really gives me that excitement.
Come to think about it, when I got my NGPC, I was really happy. I knew I had something none of my friends owned, let along new about. That was pretty cool. But that feeling is now gone.
For me, the biggest thing to me in my collection is the size,400+ games and only being a young teen. It's unblieveible.

This is just a recent thing, but when I think of the fact that Phoenix Wright is selling for so much I just think "Huh" about the fact that I own it. The fact that it was a christmas gift didnt hurt either.
A lot of the things I say "wow" to arent what they are, just how I found them, I did a count the other day and of the 24 systems I own, Ive paid for 8. Im amazingly blessed with stumbling across random stuff that people just want to get rid of for some reason.
In this category we have:
Odyssey^2 with about 35 or so games complete, and in great shape.
Virtual Boy with Waterworld Complete
Tekken 2 and 3 PCBs (Im still not sure how I managed to get those, heh)
That and like 6 N64s that people didnt want. (If you had told me I would have all these N64 games 10 years ago Id have called you crazy)
Like Ive said, Im extremely blessed, its madness all Ive gotten for free, and some of it hard to find!

I don't have any $500+ games, so... LOL
Ah, yeah, when I had just begun collecting (2002) I'd get a bit giddy thinking about some of the more awesome games I bought (Japanese version of Contra The Hard Corps for example!), but that feeling doesn't return very often. What's more, that seems a feeling that appears when you collect stuff just for the sake of it, rather than buying stuff you want. Usually I just try to find time to play the games, and that's the best reward I can get.

a capture card - In the mid 90s I had some friends that were into video editing and had some pretty nice setups with video input and whatnot and I just thought it was the coolest thing ever to not only be able to record your gameplay, but to also be able to easily transmit the videos across the internet to anyone in the world. It wasn't until 2003 when I finally picked one up (partially due to not having enough space where I was living for a TV and partially because good quality ones were finally below $50). Without a doubt one of the best gaming purchases I've ever made. It boggles my mind that people record low quality videos with their digital cameras (which I'm sure cost >$200) but refuse to dump $30-$50 on a good capture card to snag nice quality videos :(
a scanner - Seriously, words can not express how much I love scanning in cover art (KoF94 NeoCD (http://roushimsx.shackspace.com/KoF94.jpg), NeoContra (http://roushimsx.shackspace.com/NeoContra_Insert.jpg)), magazine ads, discs, cart labels, you name it. I wanted one for a long time but they always seemed too expensive, but now that I've got one, I just can't go back. Can't believe I finally have one, can't belive it took me so long to get one, and I can't belive more people don't spend a little cash to get one. Taking a photo of a magazine page is about as ghetto as having a camcorder in a movie theater, afterall.
Final Fight Guy - I remember fondly years ago stumbling on this in a Blockbuster, for $6 used (complete with manual and box). The box looked interesting (ohh, vertical with japanese text on the back) and lord knows how disappointed I was with Final Fight on SNES (so much so that we snuffed it when we bought our SNES and picked up Rival Turf instead). While it wasn't perfect, I still loved playing through the game as Guy on my SNES, and imagine my surprise when I found out how uncommon it was to have a complete copy of the game. Thank god I've held onto the box and manual all these years.
Sakura PS2 - for similar reasons as Gemini-Phoenix, really. I remember the systems being announced and I just had to have one. I hadn't owned a PS2 since it launched in Japan (long story short, I was so burnt on the lack of quality software 6 months after launch that I ended up getting rid of the system), but the release of the Sakura PS2 happened to coencide nicely with the release of Dodonpachi Daioujou, so I ended up buying both. It makes a great conversation piece when people visit.
a house. Fuckin' A, man. When I joined the miliary, I was pretty comfortable with the concept that I was unlikely to have a stable residence for the next 2 decades or so, but thanks to various factores (branch / job / location), I was finally able to take the plunge and drive myself deep, deep, deep in debt. I still haven't fully adjusted to the fact that I actually own a house, and I still have the unnatural desire to wander into my backyard and take a piss for no reason other than because it's my backyard.
...and while I hated chores as a kid, I'm really looking forward to mending my fence, mowing my lawn, and doing various other projects around the house (in addition to pissing in my backyard).

The first thing that comes to mind is my projector, which I have hooked up in my gameroom just for playing games on (and occasionally watching movies, although not very often).
The other thing that comes to mind is my own arcade, complete with about 20 games.

Well, I have had many "I can't believe I own this" occasions in my life. Prototypes, ultra rare Neo Geo games...just a load of things.
Many who know me pretty well also know that I hit some very hard times in the past few years, resulting in me selling literally everything off. Yep, there were a few occasions in which I owned absolutely NOTHING game related.
Now happily things are much better. I have a career job, a decent salary, a family of my own...and am slowly re-collecting things I once owned. I recently restarted with the SNES, and am really loving it. I already have some rares (Dracula X, Mega Man X3, Earthbound, Chrono Trigger) as well as almost 50 other excellent titles.
So, I guess I can say this for sure:
"I can't believe I have SOMETHING classic game related again"! :)

I do have a couple of things.
One is my arcade. Growing up my brother and I tried talking our parents into renting a game for the summer at our house. They never did and for most my late teens and early twenties I always wanted to own one. I now stand at 3 machines and 1 pinball. Nothing beats turning them all on and hearing them go through their demo cycles.
Second is my Master System store demo unit. I stumbled across this last year while working on a deal to buy some game boxes from a local used game store. While sorting through the bags I found it underneth. I would use it more often but the timer cannot be turned off. Only one store in our area ever had a SMS demo unit so I always wonder if it's the same one.

I've just started collection Video Games since last October (on my 16th birthday) when my friend gave me a Sega Genesis. Every since I been collecting games for the Genesis, Dreamcast, and Saturn.
Genesis: Ah the Genesis. Going to the flea market was like going to a candy store. A lot of great games to be found hiding in that huge pile of shitty games. Then thru many different forums I purchase imports and rare games for crazy prices. For example in the Shmup forum I was able to purchase an complete copy of M.U.S.H.A for $10 shipped, then the same seller gave me copies of Gunstar Heroes and Final Fight CD for $16 shipped. From import shops I was able to get my complete import copies of Twin Hawk and Strider. From the Neo-Geo fourms I was able to get complete import copies of Fire Shark and Fire Mustang. And from this fourm, Max 330 Mega gave me a complete copy of Gaiares import for $20 shipped. Putting the five imports together just makes me happy.
Sega CD: Looking at my Genesis/Sega CD unit, I still can't believe that I'm actually owning a Sega CD. I wanted one so bad when I was younger, but didn't had the funds to own it. Getting it was easy, but finding the games you want is going to be hard. I found Final Fight CD from the Shmup forum (look at the Genesis section for more details), then it was the time that I went to the flea market. On that day in the flea market was my most luckest day ever. Looked in the Sega CD section of the game store and found all of these games complete: Heart of the Alien, Dark Wizard, Ecco The Dolphin CD, Sonic CD, and Android Assault. Purchase them all for $28 with taxed. I was mainly looking for Andriod Assault and Sonic CD, but founding Heart of the Alien and Dark Wizard complete was a huge plus. They also had Lords of Thunder for $12 complete, but I turned it down because I hated the Sega CD port so bad. Having Dark Wizard makes my Sega CD look nice.
Saturn: When I didn't have money to buy all those imports, I had to bootleg in order to play some of my favorite imports. By doing this I was able to make a list of good games that I actually want to buy. As of right now I only own one game: Soukyu Gurentai Otokuyo. Too bad I didn't give it a lot of play time, but hopefully I will soon. ;)

for me, no one piece really stands out in the 1650+ games i own... but what does is my dreamcast collection, complete US set. and even more than that... is the shelf that i bought for it. it's sectioned into 3; the large center section fits all the US games just about perfect, the left side is housing my PAL games, and the right side is housing my JP games, along with various other accessories and stuff.

Umm... I don't really collect games for rarity or collectibility, partly because that costs too much, so I just buy games I like, I have too many other expensive hobbies to pour all my money into videogames. I won't hesitate to spend a wad of cash on games I do like though, Taromaru and Silvergun are waiting in the wings.
My favorite stuff I own is my is probably my Neo stuff. I have an AES with a collection of the cheapies, whatever is under $75 or so, and a bunch of awesome MVS games (All the Slugs, Last Blades, etc) and a cab to play them on.
Sometimes I catch myself looking at the pricey AES games, and then I have to remind myself that I love to play videogames, and I don't need to spend thousands of dollars to do that.
Oh, I like my LaserActive too.

Nice story man. Like you I too got back into SNES recently (I guess we're Born Again SuperNES'ers! LOL ) and I too am racking up the "rare" titles as well as 50 other excellent games. It's been awesome likewise. I just realized that 2D is where I belong. Thats what started me as a Born Again SuperNES'er
Yeah, this system just has the "feel" of gaming that really draws me in. I can't exactly pinpoint it. I just feel more "in control" of games from this era. Great graphics, 2D greatness (I was never a huge fan of 3D games myself) and I don't have to deal with 45 minutes of dialog just to get to a game that I feel I have no control over. I know it is not that way with every modern game, but many of them make me feel this way.
Best part is, I never really collected the SNES in a big way....so I never really played probably 80% or more of the titles out there. It is really a new experience for me.

On the game front, a couple Wisdom Tree games, Rhapsody on PSX, Dirty Harry on NES, Sin and Punishment on N64, and a bunch of other oddball games.
On the nongame front, I have a bunch of shojo manga and anime that I can't believe I own. Well, it's not that I can't believe it, but I'm embarrassed to like it.

.... !
Sorry, got distracted by ChuPlayer's avatar.
Anyway, I think the thing that most gives me that feeling is my Kaos arcade marquee. I loved the game growing up, but it was obscure even in 1981, so when my hometown diner dumped it in favor of a Pac-Man machine, I figured I'd never play it again. And I didn't for something like 15 years. Even after I first hopped on the Internet in the mid-'90s, it was quite a while before I could find anything related to Kaos. Finally I snagged a marquee on eBay (this was before I even found the MAME ROM), and it was just weird to see it again after all those years. And it was MINE. It still kind of blows my mind.
If I ever get an actual Kaos machine, my jaw will probably be permanently stuck in the "hanging open" position.

On your last paragraph there -- exactly the same with me. I think me and my brother maxed out at owning 22 SNES games. When you look at the 700+ US game library, man you're missing out on a ton of good stuff. And sure we rented a game EVERY Saturday, but I don't recall about 70% of them really. And it was always my bro playing and me watching moreso than vice versa.
Heck I was just playing RoboCop vs. Terminator (not bad at all) this past week and my bro walked by and said "I remember this back in the day. You rented it for me and I beat it."
I was like "I did? You did?" LOL
Now that we have the income means to do so, we can buy and play pretty much anything we missed back then... and for me that list includes the likes of Zelda and Super Metroid! So I'm in for a heck of a ride.
Two REDCAT games on Floppy! I thought I'll never find those games I played for months when I was young. Luckily I did.

My 3 copies of the north american release of international superstar soccer deluxe (SNES) and my copy of SUPER COPA for SNES too..
Hey suppafly it's good to hear you have both those games, i still have to add them to my collection, but at the minute i'v given up collecting..
I have a pretty big American snes collection, and i'm in the UK, i'm about 80 games short of having a complete collection. i have around 670 US Snes titles.
(1) Snes proto's about 25 (Mario allstars, Lufia, hammer lock, final fantasy mystic quest etc),
(2) Snes Comp carts (2x starfox weekends and a Donkey
Kong Comp),
(3) Snes test carts
(4) Snes test stations.
(5) Nintendo clothing, T-shirts, Donkey kong t-shirts + jumpers (handed out to the people working at rare HQ here in the UK) A leather Killer Instinct jacket, the Starfox bomber jacket (mint) also the cloth banner for the Starfox comp as well. Plus other Nintendo jackets.
(6)The Little Mario RPG standee the little DKC 3 standee, plus loads of big Snes vinyl banners (Doom, DKC, Mario RPG, tetris attacks etc..)
(7) Big Store signs (Yoshi's Island, Mario World etc)
(8) Test Centre Signs (metal signs),
(9) Sealed games about 40 (includes, lethal enforcers big box package, mario paint big box package, bomberman big box package), sealed pads, sealed cleaning carts.
Plus loads i can't think of at the min ---> :embarrassed:
Really just loads of stuff American snes related, it's good to have it and sometimes i do think about cashing out, but then i think of all the time i've taken to get it all together, then i think WOW, but the longer i have it the less of the wow factor :/ but that only lasts for a few seconds then i start looking through it all again, and i'm like :D

When it comes to games I can probably say my "wow I can't believe I own this"-games are:
Ninja Master - Neo Geo
Sapphire brand new - PCE
Darius Alpha - PCE
Diver-2000 Dreamcast
when it comes to non-gaming:
wow I can't believe when I look at my fiancee, that I got a girl like her!
10 years ago imagening the idea of having a beautiful, japanese girl who has no problems with games I would have laughed at myself because it obviously a nerd-otaku dream LOL
after that:
Wow, I can't believe that on thursday I'm gonna have an interview with 4 bigwits at the SNK HQ in Osaka for a german online mag. That is truly a dream coming true!!!!!!!!

I have a few things that fall into this category for gaming:
- The games that I have been involved in. Both the Dreamcast games, as well as Crystal Mines II: Buried Treasure for the Lynx which I did some levels for. When I was little, I said that I wanted to grow up and make some games. I feel like I really did a bit of a dream because of that.
- My copy of Tempest 2000 that I got signed from Jeff Minter and shipped back to me. It really got me into gaming again, and having him sign it really meant a lot to me.
- 2 pinballs and 2 arcade machines. Again, when I was little I thought that these things were so cool, and I just wanted to somehow own one when I grew up. I now own a total of four of them. I need to get a taller basement somehow though, as they don't fit how I intended them too :(
For not gaming:
- A house with a big yard. In the city. I still can't believe I actually own this place. Well, something like 20% of it.

I like to put myself back into 1982 or so, when I was an arcade-obsessed nerdling. Just getting to play Atari at a friend's house was the pinnacle of fun.
Now, I have just about every single game I ever played in any arcade available to me via classic compilation or emulation. I have a massive collection of console games, which I would have killed for as a kid. I also have state-of-the-art 3D games which are way beyond my wildest dreams growing up. x_x Even Doom would have been amazing in the 1980s, but something like Call of Duty 2 would have made my head explode! :o High resolution, surround sound, 6-degrees of freedom wireless 3D controllers, networked play ... @_@
And now, all those little games are portable! The GBA Micro would have been unfathomable to me as a kid. "Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguisable from magic."
And they say there's no innovation in games. O_O LOL Well, maybe the designers could learn a thing or two, but you can't fault the technology!
So 1982-me is just ga-ga over:
Emulation
Portability
High Technology
And 2006 me just wishes I had the free time I did when I was a kid to enjoy it all. :/

I would have to say my biggest "I can't belive I own this is my Getaway Pinball Machine. A classic from 1992, I shoved hundreds into this baby when I was younger. If you have never played it, I recommend finding an arcade (if you can) and trying it out :)

Gaming:
Actually, I can't believe I still own my original NES after all the stuff from my childhood my mom has thrown out.
Non Gaming:
I'm happy for everything we have, but I really like owning my family Hammond Organ and Leslie tone cabinet. It's been in the family since 1966, ten years longer that me. :)

I've had a lot of Nintendo test equipment pass thorugh my hands, which I find hard to believe sometimes. I've sold most of it to support other hobbies.
However, I KEPT my N64 Test Cart and my Gamecube Service Disk. :-P So they're now my "I can't believe I own these" items. :D x_x

I love how Nintendo made sure they threw in their little "only for" banner at the top of that test disc. Who else could it be for?? LOL
