Getting an xbox for my birthday (no, not 360) and need to pick up any worthwhile games I may have missed in the past 5? years.

Yes, there is a best of xbox list in classic disucssions, and it is not for exclusive games, and has not been updated in almost a year. (I have almost the whole list on the PS2 already)

So far, I picked up:
Fable lost chapters, Sudeki, Jade Empire, Halo, DOA volleyball, Ninja Gaiden black, and panzer dragoon orta. Planning on picking up KOTOR, KOTOR 2, and Halo 2

What other exclusives do they have that are worth picking up?

The two Otogi games are good, as well as Phantom Dust. Fuzion Frenzy is still fun after all these years, and Crimson Skies isn't too shabby. The Syberia series isn't bad, nor are Still Life and CSI, but those are also available on PC.

Well, I've got you covered on the racer genre, at least. ;-)

Outrun 2
Crazy Taxi 3
Forza (if you like GT-style sims)
Project Gotham 2
Rallisport 2 (one of the best looking racers I've seen)

You can probably get any of those for $20 or less now.

Here's a few of my picks:

- Rallisport 2
- Outrun 2
- Phantom Crash
- Deathrow
- Crimson Skies
- Panzer Dragoon Orta
- Jet Set Radio Future/Sega GT 2002*
- Jade Empire
- Otogi
- Chronicles of Riddick: Escape From Butcher Bay (PC version available, but Xbox was first)

*(It's cheaper to buy the (previously pack-in) combo disc.)

As a bonus, all those are in the $10-20 range, maybe even less for a few of them. Lots of those games are 'seconded' from what others have posted.

Steel Battalion... but that's quite the pricey item. The jury's still out on it for me, but it's definitely an experience unique to that game alone.

Shenmue II I guess if you can count it.

Chronicles of Riddick, Armed and Dangerous (for a really wierd... uh, "FPS" I guess), and Thief are all worth checking out as well.

D&D Heroes
Mechassault 1&2
Colin Mcrae 2005
Star Wars: Obi-Wan
Far Cry Instincts

Shenmue II (it does count)
Panzer Dragoon Orta
Return to Castle Wolfenstein
Project Gotham Racing 2

From Tecmo:
DoA Xtreme Volleyball
Ninja Gaiden Black
Fatal Frame & Fatal Frame II

The Fatal Frame games aren't exclusive. Wolfenstein on the xbox is better than the PS2 version (same with Silent Hill 4, in case you're ever looking). Also, KotOR, Jade Empire and Fable all rubbed me the wrong way, but other people liked them.

Kingdom Under Fire
Kingdom Under Fire: Heroes
Guilty Gear X2
SNK vs Capcom
Samurai Shodown V
Phantom Crash
Metal Slug 3

All are worth picking up.

Oddworld:Stranger's Wrath is a fucking amazing game. I didn't much care for previous games in the series, but Stranger's Wrath was just so damn well done. Great story, music, voices, graphics, control, etc etc all across the board. It's a must own, if you've got an Xbox.

If you don't have an Xbox, it's worth buying one just for it.

Deathrow is also a lot more fun than you'd think. Dirt cheap now a days, critically acclaimed, and criminally overlooked.

I've finally got both Otogi games, so I'm really looking forward to playing through them...maybe once i finally finish off Phoenix Wright...

The Tom Clancy games are always the best on Xbox.

KOTOR games and apparently Sudeki have PC versions as well, if that counts against it's exclusiveness.

I suggest DEATHROW, as it's the best sports game ever. I also second Toejam and Earl III.

- HALF-LIFE 2!!!!!!!!
- Halo
- Metal Slug 3
- Ninja Gaiden
- Oddworld Stranger's Wrath
- Oddworld Munch's Oddysee
- Silent Hill 2: Restless Dreams (extra content over PC and PS2 versions)

Most of those aren't really exclusives, many of those have PC ports.

The xbox exclusives are few but they are great for the most part in my experience.

Well, I second (or third or whatever, as the case may be) the aforementioned Toejam & Earl III, Shenmue II, and Panzer Dragoon Orta. If I can add a couple of PC/X-Box only games to the questionable exclusives list, I'd go with Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic and Stubbs the Zombie. Plus, the X-Box Psychonauts is much better than the PS2 one.

Really? I'll have to check into that.

Good job mentioning Stranger's Wrath. Game needs more attention...and I need to get around to beating the boss I'm on.

A lot of these will be repeats, oh well. :P

Anything published by SNK
Deathrow
Far Cry Instincts
Guilty Gear XX # Reload
Metal Slug 3
Ninja Gaiden Black
Oddworld: Stranger's Wrath
Otogi: Myth of Demons
Otogi 2: Immortal Warriors
Phantom Dust
Splinter Cell series*

It should be noted that the extra content in the XBox Silent Hill 2 is available in the Greatest Hits PS2 version as well.

*Yeah they're on the PS2 and Gamecube, but guess what, those versions have almost half of each level removed completely and use retarded painted textures instead of the real time lighting.

I can't possibly say enough good about the Otogi games. Otogi has certain aspects that could be considered flaws but the whole is greater than the sum of its parts. Otogi 2 is more of the same but with better graphics and six characters to play as instead of one, effectively making it one of the best sequels ever.

I'll second Otogi 2, despite the rare slowdown during the most hectic moments. Splinter Cell games are great on the Xbox, though you can get all of them for the PC, as well, and frankly I can't imagine playing Chaos Theory any other way. Very nice ambience/details!

Should have stated CONSOLE exlusive :) If it's a fps on the PC, I play it on the pc.

Added quite a few of these suggestions to my "to buy" list. Otogi 1 + 2, phantom crash and phantom dust all look pretty good in addition to the games I already picked up. Thanx :)

Even though it has been said already, make sure you get Jet Set Radio Future. Gunvalkyrie is another game to check out, though it might not be your style, it's fairly cheap.

- Silent Hill 2: Restless Dreams (extra content over PC and PS2 versions)

The extra content was added to the Greatest Hits Silent Hill 2 release.

think of the xbox as THE system for driving, fighting, and sport games. if youre strictly console, then it also has the best FPS (but i never play an fps on a controller, so for me these are all shovelware).

Silent Hill 2 and Fatal Frame with bonus content.
Also, if getting PGR2, you can get a Live bundle and make it much more worthwhile if you don't mind not having a case for the game.

Why keep it to exclusinve titles. Isn't the xbox supposed to have better versions of multi-platform games?

Because that's what this particular thread is about. There's another thread (in Classic threads, if I'm not mistaken) to cover all sorts of things. And yes, it's generally accepted that from a technological standpoint, the original Xbox has the best versions of most multiplatform titles. But that's not the discussion this thread sought to create. :P

I totally agree. I was just stating.

Avoid Spy Hunter though, they somehow went out of their way to make the GC/XBox ports of that game terrible beyond any rational possiblity.

Fred

The main reason is because I've owend a PS2 since launch, and played all of the cross-console games that I want to play on the PS2 already :) For future games, I'll probably get the xbox version of the game, but for already released games if I wanted it, I already have it on the ps2.

I gotta chime in with Scrapland. I know there's a PC version, but I don't really count PCs when talking about console game exclusivity.

I also second Buffy The Vampire Slayer. Awesome game.

FYI: Outrun 2006 Coast 2 Coast will be coming out in the US later this month, and according to the folks in Europe (who have it already BOOOO), it's even more amazing.

However it's far from being an XBox exclusive, since it's getting a PS2, PSP, and PC release as well this time.
