What's the first the system you bought with your own money? Not your parents money, but your MONEY. And ofcourse, pre-owned systems do not count.

For me, it would be the Game Boy Advance. Boy I was happy when I bought that baby at Wal-Marts, and when I first opened it at home.

So what was your first system you bought with your own money?

Gamecube, My parents wernt fond of upgrading systems because you had to buy all new games.

My mom bought the NES for herself. Then we got a genesis for my brother and I. Then I convinced my dad to let me get a nintendo 64. He bought it though but it took a lot of convincing.

Then I was going to buy a dreamcast but my dad told me to wait because he read about the sales and how sega might call quits. Thats when I decided to put $ on my gamecube and I bought it. Few months later my brother and I bought an xbox, boy was he pissed. Then the ps2 came, then the neo then 1000+ games, lets just say he says i waste my money to much.

Haha

For me

it was the Sega Msster System back in 1988 cuz i wanted to play those RPG's so badly ! I already had the nes ever since 1986 or 1987 LOL ... it was $79.99 I bought it at Toys R us along with Quartet . then borrowed Miracle warriors and phantasy star from a friend of mine at that time ... then it went on from there I always bought my systems ever since 1988 ...

Probably the 32x, but that WAS birthday money.

Don't regret it either.

I haven't bought a new console yet. My parents bought my Megadrive and original PS2 new. All my other consoles were used and I bought them myself.

My most expensive console I've bought was a used slimline PS2 just after Christmas for £80.

Sega Megadrive with Sonic the Hedgehog and Tazmania, and two controllers. £149 as I recall ... all from hard-earned paper round money. 4 months worth of it, to be precise.

Oh boy, was that a happy day!

I had to take a paper route to get enough money to buy my NES and a few games. That took about two months since I had to split the money with my mom (she drove). After that, I sold candy bars to get the money to buy a Gameboy. It took a few weekends, but it was worth it.

If used doesn't count, the first one I bought for myself with my own money was the SNES. I got the Donkey Kong Country package right after Christmas of '94.

Holy shit. I just realized that I have not bought (a non-pre owned) console other then a GBC. Wow. NES was bought by them, SNES was an x-mas gift from them, same with the N64, as with the PS1, and the PS2 was a reward for good grades. The genesis I dont remember why it was bought, but they did it, or maybe my brother. I still have all of those except the NES SNES and Gen, I sold those. But, I bought back older ones. Would've been nice to still have all that stuff before I sold it. Oh well. Oh, and also, I bought all the games for the systems, aside from one game with each system. I dont remember some of them, but the ones I do are Starfox 64, Omega Boost for PS1, and Red Faction for PS2. My dad also bought 'Sky Odyssey' for himself, if that counts.

Man, that makes me sound sooo spoiled.

Sega Genesis model 1 w/ Sonic the Hedgehog. I was in 2nd grade. I wrote up an ad in the paper to sell all of my NES stuff for fundraising, my father gave the ad to the newspaper company. Luckily my grandmother stashed a few games which I still have to this day.

I remember saving up to buy a game boy color bundle that came with zelda DX at a sam's club years ago. I believe that was the first system bought on my own. After that, I bought my 2nd PS2, gamecube, and my DS.

I'm not 100% sure, but I think I saved up for my PlayStation. N64 was a present, that I remember for certain.

After that...um, the next system I bought was a GameCube. Aside from retro purchases (including a Saturn/Dreamcast stuff here), I haven't bought anything else at retail unless you include the Game Boy Player (and I got that at the same time as the GC, as I bought the system within a few weeks of the $150 GBP + GC deal's announcement).

I worked for a summer to buy a SNES, Final fantasy II and a 19” color TV. I was 15 and it was 1992. A family had given us a NES for Christmas back in 1989 so the SNES was my first purchased system. The sad part was that at the time my family did not own a TV so within a week I would come home from my paper route to find my family in my room watching TV! Bummer…

Needless to say every system I've had since then with the exception of a Gamecube (birthday present) and an XBox (Christmas present) I've purchased myself.

My brother and I mowed lawns for an entire summer in 1982 to earn enough money to buy our Atari 2600. I was 12 years old at the time.

We saved up $250(canadian funds) and when we went on holidays to California we stopped in Bellingham, WA and purchased it. (for the life of me, I cannot remember the name of the store)
The 2 weeks we spent in the states allowed us to bring it back duty free.

I remember the exchange rate killed us, but my dad was kind enough to buy Defender for us.

-It was $199.99us.
-Defender was $49.99 (i think).

I can only remember wanting to go home early from holidays to play it!

First one I bought kind of with my own money would've been an original PS1 in August of 99. My roommate and I split the cost then, and at the end of the year, he paid me off and took it with him.

A year later, I bought a redesigned PSOne right after they came out, so that'd be my first personally fully bought system.

I didn't actually buy a system with my own money until the Xbox launch. Left work at 6 AM (graveyard shift) to sit next to my friend who saved me a spot in line. A lot of coffee later, we had ourselves two xboxes, I got DoA3 and microsoft's NFL game for it, he got DoA3 and Halo.

To this day, I still don't own Halo :D

haha, actually, the first system I ever paid for was the Atari Jaguar :) What a way to start eh?

Actually, I think that might be the ONLY system I ever bought with my own money technically, I almost always have someone buy me the systems for birthday or xmas.

For me, it was an atomic purple GameBoy Color.
I saved up change in a jar by my bed the entire summer to afford that badboy.
I dont think I really appreciated it for all that it was, as I cant think of anything nice too say....
Odd.

Then I would have to say the Sega Genesis/Streets of Rage 2 bundle. I think they called it the "Fighting System".

My first was the PSX, sometime in 1997. Before that, I had a NES, GB, and a Genesis, all of which were bought for me. I bought the PSX and "Codename: Tenka" at the same time. I remember that when I bought the system, I was having trouble deciding what game to buy with it, because nothing that they had at that particular store thrilled me that much. I played the pack-in demo disc WAY more than I ever played Tenka.

Sega Genesis with Sonic the Hedgehog. And every other system that I currently own was also bought with my own money, except for my GBA, which was a birthday gift from my parents. First time they bought me a new system since they got me an Atari 2600, which is the only other system they ever bought for me. I always had to buy all my own systems and games after that. Once in a while they'll buy a game for me, but most of my games were all bought with my own money too. And I think it's alot better that way. I appreciate what I have alot more because I had to work hard for all of it. Not like it would be if everything I ever wanted was always given to me just because I wanted it.

Playstation.

My folks bought me the Atari VCS, Colecovision, Vic-20, C64, Amiga, Genesis, SNES, Neo Geo...just about everything up to the point the Playstation came out. I remember it well since I was kicked out of my house (I was a rebel kid) and living at a friends. I worked for his Dad and put a deposit down on the up and coming Playstation. Picked it up when it was released, of course paying with what I made. Funny, now I re-buy the things my parents purchased for me back then! :)

I own 16 systems counting portables and i paid for all of them with my own money. Its the best feeling to pay for your own stuff. But i do buy alot of my system pre-played to save money. Nothing wrong with that..Adleast you have them and can say i paid for that.

Had to think about this awhile.

I bought a Colecovision on clearance at KB Toys in Meriden CT back in the day. Think I used money I save from allowances or a birthday. Think it was $50.

Still have it...

The first console with my own money must have been my PS2. I had purchased some used consoles, though. Aside from that, the only other console that I have purchased new with my own $$ is my 360, and I earned that thing. My summer job as a bouncer payed for that, so I suffered for my hobby.

The first system I purchased with my own money (which is also my favorite), was the SNES. The console came in a bundle with 2 controllers and 2 games (Super Mario World and Super Mario Kart) priced at $129 in Wal-mart. It was a very good deal at the time.

My Halo Edition Xbox. I bought the only one the local GameStop had. I used graduation money for it (it's educational right?). Man, that was a purchase I'm glad I did. It was my first introduction to gaming outside of Nintendo. Yes, I'm serious. I had never played a Playstation or Genesis before that.

Mine was a SNES. I also had a C64, Intellivision, and NES that had been Christmas gifts over the years. I had actually saved up enough in elementary school to buy an NES (no small feat when you are 10) and couldn't understand why my parents wouldn't let me buy one. Then I got my NES set for Christmas and it was a huge surprise. Best Christmas present I ever got, to this day.

It was the Sega Megadrive (JP) and I had so much fun playing Tatsujin, Forgotten Worlds and Super Shinobi. Yeah those were the days. Back in the day too I was playing the Megadrive on a PAL TV....Yup it played in black and white...sigh what wonderful times :p I had to save up for a RGB monitor and used a scart lead later.

My first system that I bought with my own money was the GameBoy Advance. I had to work real hard, helping my grandmother move (she paid me like 8$ a day) and passing out newspapers.

I bought it at a local game dealer and it took me an hour (or so it felt) to get it in my hands 'cause they had to count all my loose change that I paid with. I also bought F-Zero with it.

Hmm, first system I bought with my own cash was a Mega Drive but that was pre-owned. First new system would've been a PS1 from my local Game shop. If I remember rightly, there was a discount on up to three games bought with it so I came out with FF7, Die Hard Trilogy & International Track & Field - the first two keeping me entertained for hours.

To not include pre-owned consules is harsh. Because I've only become a descrete gamer for almost 3yrs now the only NEW system I got was a Gamecube bought with giftcards from Christmas. Other than that, I've bought all my current used systems except PS1 (Was a gift from an ex while we dated) and an N64 (Grandma saw I was in need of a game system). The first system I actually paid for myself though was a used Genesis which I bought with Columns as well. That's what started my whole collection. *tears*

Okay.. My story.

I remember seeing a huge Toys R' Us ad for a new system in 1986 called the Nintendo Entertainment System. It was the week before the end of school when I saw it. It also had a picture of a gun and a wierd looking robot and a few game screenshots.

I remember saying to myself, I must have this...

I carried that ad in my pocket throughout the summer as motivation.

So all that summer, I saved every dime I had earned, and even took my first job cutting lawns. On August 27th, 1986, 3 days before school started back up, I finally saved up the money to buy the bare bones system which was only an astonishing $79.99. That afternoon, my dad took me to TRU and I purchased my NES. I brought it home, set it up, and I was too busy trying to save the princess to be bothered for the next several days.

A week later, I got grounded from it because my grades were shitty. Go figure..

:D :D

First new system bought with my own dinero was the original Game Boy upon its U.S. release in 1989.

First console system I bought on my own was a used Atari 2600, purchased in 1994 to replace the one my parents dumped at a garage sale without my consent (yes, despite having eventually replaced everything they sold and building a 2600 collection 15 times its original size, I still hold a slight grudge about this).

Now that I think about it, I've never bought a new console system, and I guess I consider this a point of pride.
