This topic might be in the wrong area, but this would be a good thread for people who use PC emulators.

I was wondering if anyone knows of a PC-FX emulator and roms.

I also want a NeoGeo emulator since I can't afford to start an AES/MVS collection at the moment. If anyone could provide me with some basic info on what they feel is the best Windows based Neo Geo emu and a link. I've checked a few sites, but they don't provide enough info.

Also, I quite like some of the obscure ROMS I've found, like Street Fucker & Hentai Collection 1 for the SNES. snip

The PC-FX emulator is not out yet. It is still under development under called MagicEngine-FX.
Goto www.magicengine.com for details.

As for the Neo Geo emulator there are plenty
MAME (Arcade) (www.mame.net)
Kawaks
Nebula
Neo RageX

As for roms, hmmmm......

Talking about actual emulator programs is fine, but linking to romsites, not so much. Edited for content, but please continue otherwise :)

What's wrong with linking to ROM sites?

If you want some free games, try here (http://www.ebaumsworld.com/games.shtml), there's even Sonic the Hedgehog (http://www.ebaumsworld.com/sonic.html). And here's a nice version of Metal Slug (http://www.donpixel.com/play/en/060217140707/).

MVS carts are dirt cheap, go buy them.

DP does not want to be associated with illegal activity of any kind. Downloading roms that you do not own the original of is illegal. So, no posting links to rom sites. Nothing more needs to be said about this.

Also, blatantly admitting on a collectors' forum that you want to download roms because you can't afford the real thing is pretty tasteless, imo.

I've always liked http://www.zophar.net/ for downloading emulators. It has most (if not all) emulators for any console, etc. WITH reviews and links to the homepage. Definitely a good starting point.

Actually, no, they aren't. But, don't complain...because I have a feeling if you do that'll stop too. Not very long ago, I moderated an emulation forum right here at DP. We spoke of new emulator happenings, and I started the Mame Club. I originally didn't want roms posted because of the legality, as well as not wanting DP to get into any trouble regarding it down the road. But, DP was cool with hosting the roms, and it was all good. Now I'm not so sure it should be so publicized. I'm just saying that things of this sort really did belong in a separate (ie: Emulation) forum.

And BTW, excuse me if I am out of the loop (I definitely am now!) but what in the world happened to decide to cut that forum anyway?

Yeah, seriously. I take great pride in that trophy graphic in my inventory and I'd love to see another MAME competition this summer. Let's not spoil fun side things here at DP.

Don't spoil the Monday Morning MAME Club, I enjoy talking about these classic old school games with others. I also enjoy when I pick an obscure game, that it's to be shared with others who can get a chance to play it, and perhaps gain the game a new fan or two.

How is it tasteless? And how am I blatantly admitting anything?

I just like playing games on my PC, just like I enjoy flash games. What I loathe about piracy laws is that even after a console has been out of production for over 10 years they still want to moan about piracy. Why? It's so self defeating in a way.

If it's against the rules then fine, but DP isn't exactly affiliated with any of these sites that host ROMS.

There's nothing wrong with Famiclones and there is nothing wrong with ROM files. I'd bet half of the people that bitch about this actually do the same thing.

Whatever, a "rule" is a "rule".

I guess that Messiah shouldn't be advertising that NEX, because technically it isn't original. Oh how tasteless. LOL

Hypocrites.

I was going to stay clear of this thread but...

You know some of us have been in the emulation testing / distribution game in years past and can tell you what a horrid can of worms it opens. You can't fault Joe and the rest of the Digital Press staff for wanting nothing to do with them.

Besides, I think not reading the rules and then complaining about this once you're told not to talk about romsites - then continuing on about it once you acknowledge that you understand not to makes someone more of a hypocrite than the forums saying "talk of that isn't allowed."

Fair enough. I wont talk about roms, I never read agreements or rules, it's like installing something on windows. Yes, I accept!!!!!!!!!

please don't take my question out of context, i was merely curious, i'm not too concerned about morale issue of a few harmless roms, i've been playing around with emus since the Amiga days, by the time Mame came around the scene was already 4-5 years old, so it's not like Mame is the pioneering evil one, with recently learning about starroms and then them going down i figured maybe they were retail. :P
