I went to a Discovery Channel store today and they had NGPC consoles on display and for sale. I actually had to double take, because I couldn't believe it.
They were the bundle sets with 6 games. Guess how much the price was? $74.99. O_O

Yeah, the remaining SNK warehouse stock of these was cleared out a couple years back and they ended up showing up in all kinds of places. There were a couple packages, one with the system (boxed) and six games (loose) and another (possibly two) blister packaged game sets that had I believe four loose games. Most GameStops got them if I remember correctly but in limited number. Loose NGPC stuff isn't worth a whole lot but it's still a nice way to get most of the best games and a console without having to play the eBay game.

Also the blister packs are the only way to get the US version of Last Blade.

Its not the only way to get Last blade (ebay helps) but Last Blade and Fasalei! are both games that only come with the clam shell. Of all the loose ones i've seen i've never seen any US Last Blades or Fasalei! in any of the game bundles. All the US versions of the games have the ESRB ratings on them.
Remember that these games are mixed, you can get UK and Japanese versions of the games in here as well, but that wont affect their play on your system.

That's because Fasalei! was never released in the US. I'm not sure about Last Blade, but I doubt it was.
SNK pulled the NGPC shortly after the UK release of Fsalei!, which is why it never reached the US.
I don't have any clamshell cases, because the price for them is just too high. I buy loose games with the plasic case only due to the cost, and I've gotten good dealls on games. I got FF First Impact for just over 3 USD.

This is true of most of the earlier games- which were released in all three territiories. Japanese only releases will be in Japanese (but will still play on your machine). Of the ones that are Japan and UK, you may need the UK version to play in English (I can't remember. )

Yeah neither was offically released in US, but SNK already had US carts made for both. So when warehouse inventory was released to the public, the US versions became available...

I don't understand how all of you can buy this stuff and know so much about the blister packs but doubt US Last Blade NGPC. It's rated E. I'm holding the cartridge in my hand. The only way to purchase it would be to get a blister pack that has it. It even got reviews on some retro/portable sites once the blister packs first started coming out several years ago.
To be honest though I don't remember the games in the blister packs being mixed at all. US versions only.
Anyways Last Blade NGPC was being manufactured in early 2000 and the US version was never recalled to Japan and wiped like the rest since they were either still warehoused, being shipped, etc. by the time the recall actually happened. So when companies began finding warehoused leftovers from the now defunct SNK of America Last Blade US got thrown into the mix.
Lik-Sang also had them for sale loose a few months before the blister packs came out also.
Faselei! on the other, as far as I know a US release was never completed.
You will need the UK or US version of a NGPC game to be able to play in English, though if you have an English one you can change your NGPC settings to Japanese and play the Japanese cut of the game. Great if you don't feel like tolerating the missing blood in some games like Metal Slug: Second Mission. Ironically, Metal Slug: First Mission isn't censored at all. SNK did that with the US Neo Geo/MVS Last Blade/Last Blade 2 as well. The original has no censorship whatsoever.

Nor have I. I doubt that many US Faselei games were made if there were actually any. That is why it's such a coveted item.

is $74.99 a good deal for the bundle? It seemed quite expensive to me... Plus I already have 4 of the 6 games included... I'm tempted to buy it. :/

I believe that I've seen a blister pack w/ Faselei! (got a horrible memory though, I'm almost certainly wrong), but I know for a fact that I've never seen a pack with Cardfighters Clash, that would have sealed the deal for me :)
Check ebay and see what sort of selection can be had in those blister packs, many are sold there.

From what I understand, it was only the UK that got the hard snap-lock case for all games? All US/Jpn games came in cardboard boxes, except for the 9 Best Collection Japanese releases, yes? Or am I getting it all wrong?
I've also been trying to find out what games used the DC-NGP link cable, and what for. So far, I've found:
SNK Vs. Capcom: MotM
SNK Vs. Capcom: CFC SNK
SNK Vs. Capcom: CFC Capcom
SNK Vs. Capcom: CFC 2 Expanded Edition
I assume these all link into DC SNK Vs. Capcom, but what do they do?
King of the Fighters R2
King of the Fighters: Battle de Paradise
These link into DC King of Fighters '99: Dream Match?
Bikkuriman 2000
Cool Cool Jam
Never likely to get these, but still....

I never doubted it. However i've never seen a Blister pack with one in it. I got mine from an ebayer when I bought a lot of games and a system. It just happened to be one of the loose games (where most were boxed) in the collection he sold. I had alot harder time getting a US Last Blade, than I did getting a US Fasalei!
To be honest though I don't remember the games in the blister packs being mixed at all. US versions only.
I've seen numerous UK versions in there and a few Japanese ones (but of the games like golf and baseball, where the text wouldnt be an issue). The UK games are tellable by the little rainbow color bar on the top of the carts. I remember walking into my old indy store about 3 years ago and commenting about how I thought I found a Metal Slug variant in one of those blister packs. Turns out it was just the UK version.
Faselei! on the other, as far as I know a US release was never completed.
Neither were actually completed. The games were made and done, but the boxes and manuals had either not been produced or were scrapped when they were liquidated out. A complete Last Blade US version would be a grail of grails and i'd pay BIG for that.

Your not the only one. I've seen UK copies in many of the blister packs.
Nor have I. I doubt that many US Faselei games were made if there were actually any. That is why it's such a coveted item.
They are out there. I own one. Its sold on ebay pretty regularly by one or two wholesalers. They run something like 12.95 with a 14.99 BIN on them.

No. Don't waste your money. Go on ebay and get either lots, or buy those games loose. Loose most NGPC games (well the US versions) arn't all that expensive and are pretty obtainable (minus a few toughies) or if you buy a lot, I can garantee you that it wont get that high and you can resell the rest of it and make back most of if not all your money. Not to mention that you can proably snag most of those games boxed as well, if you give it a little time.

Since you already have the games, pass. But to anybody who doesn't have anything NGPC, go for it. I got a similar, if not exactly the same, set for my birthday about two and a half years ago. I put more time into it in one week than I did with three years of my GBA.

I'm surprised any of these are still around. I bought mine from Hastings in October 2004 plus two blister packs worth of games - including Sonic and the elusive Faselei - for a total of $100 ($60 for the NGPC + 6 games, $20 each for two 4-packs of carts). Instant NGPC collection. Pretty cool handheld by all accounts, so get yours while you can.

Actually, some very early US games DID get the snap case but these were quickly pulled for the cardboard cases. Some lucky early adopters have a snaplock case MS First Mission and Fatal Fury First Contact though. @_@
PapaStu I don't think that's a grail that can be found. As far as I know they never even designed packaging for a US Last Blade/Faselei!, let alone made any.
I have to double check my games now and see if I got any European versions from blister packs. I could swear I never saw them mixed in (and especially never saw any Japanese games). That said I've only actually SEEN maybe ten such packs total in my life.

To the best of my knowledge, all Japanese games came in clamshells.

No they didn't. I know I have cardboard boxes for Match of the Millennium, Faselei, Super Real Mahjong. More, I'm sure, but I can't remember which box has my NGPC collection.

Yup, my copy of Densha de Go! 2 is in a cardboard box. I think some confusion has arisen concerning what is meant by clamshell. (at least reading through this whole thread it seems that way)
Clamshell means that the game's BOX is a plastic clamshell rather than cardboard, like the majority of Genesis / Mega Drive games. The small plastic cases that the individual NGP and NGPC cartridges come in is not what was being discussed. :)

Yea you are right about the cases, except US was the country than got stuck with cardboard, Japan also had the clamshells. Apart from a few games, which were released with cardboard only. And like what was said above, the clear plastic cases are not clamshells...

Ah, sorry then, I guess I was mistaken. But at the least, it seems like more Japanese games came in plastic clamshells than those that came in cardboard.

That is true. I think the only reason they even made cardboad cases was to cut costs after they started losing money. I wish I had clamshells for all my games, but sadly it is too expensive for the harder to find games. I just can't justify paying more than 3 times the price just for a case...beautiful case...

Japanese only releases will be in Japanese (but will still play on your machine). Of the ones that are Japan and UK, you may need the UK version to play in English (I can't remember. )
You will need the UK or US version of a NGPC game to be able to play in English, though if you have an English one you can change your NGPC settings to Japanese and play the Japanese cut of the game.
That's odd. I have the Japanese version of Neo Turf Masters (aka Big Tournament Golf), and when I have the NGPC BIOS set to English, the game itself is in English, also. I'm pretty sure I have the Japanese version, because it's not called by that name anywhere else. Of course, this doesn't work with all Japanese games (Last Blade, for example, remained in Japanese), but I wonder what made this game so special.

Yeah that's an earlier game that was released in all three regions, so it's multilingual... It's mostly the later games that don't support multiple languages. I'm sure there is a list somewhere...

I really hate the cardboard boxes, just bought a couple of Japan release only NGPC games and got those nasty boxe instead of the lovely clamshells my UK games have. Oh well.
