The default. Left trigger fires, aim with the stylus and move with the D-Pad. Seems very natural, really, and very comfortable. From the sounds of things, the final version has a lot of control schemes and settings - you can adjust a lot. I can't imagine too many people will have problems.

Same here, I like the default setting, works well - kind of like playing a PC FPS with a mouse.

It's really all a matter of how you hold it. I'm with the majority in the default set up. I cradle the system with my left hand, with my index finger using the trigger and my thumb moving Samus. The right hand is then free to move as needed. Experiment with the few other FPSs on the DS or try holding it in different ways until it's comfortable for you.
My only real complaint is jumping which is too picky about the double tap.

There is a control scheme that doesn't use the touchscreen at all. I found it suprisingly efficient, but it kind of defeats the purpose. Might be a good solution for some people.

According to a few of the previews I've read recently, the jumping is much much easier in the retail version than in the demp.

I used the default setting, though I used the stylus in my right hand (I'm left-handed when writing).

I found the demo really hard to control, but was trying to use it to mimic what i use on consoles. IE, buttons on right hand for movement and my thumb with the thumpad thing on the touchscreen for aim. Was really uncomfortable, didn't work like an analogue stick and jumping was hard. I think I tried a few other things but never got too comfortable

I love the default control, it gives me so much accuracy, I could shoot a postage stamp on Ridley's back.

I wonder why left handed controllers were never made for consoles.

my favorite is the one that requires zero use of the stylus. the stylus just seems so impractical.
Have you guys seen any reviews for this game? How many of you will get it tommorow?
I found the first review from GamePro. It looks pretty good take a look.

just picked it up at lunch, and I will be online tonight with this, so far the single player is nice, alot like the GC ver, but with toned down graphics.. (obviously) so far its a great game, haven't taken it online yet, as I am at work, but I will soon enough.. Do yourself a favor and pick this one up.
I had the choice of either this or Tetris DS and it was a really hard choice on my part. I picked Prime Hunters because it seemed to be the only copy delivered to my store and since my car just recently died, it was the easier choice.
So far I am really impressed with what Retro Studio was able to do, a great improvement from the demo. The controls were easy to use and the use of the touch screen was hella easier than it was in the demo. This is the best use of the DS's abilities so far, hopefully this game will be used as an example on how to make a game for this machine.
I havn't had a chance to play it on-line yet, I got dropped right at the beginning of the game when I tried, but it looks very promising.
I'll probably end up picking up Tetris DS tomorrow since I get paid this Thursday. I also find it nice that two WiFi games were released on the same day, it seems that Nintendo is catching on how much people want this wonderfull feature.

I'm still not sure of the idea of an "FPS" on a portable. So, how are all the control schemes? On the demo I could not stand the touch version. And the control pad version was good except for using the R trigger for shooting. PLEASE DON'T USE THE L OR R BUTTONS FOR SHOOTING! I will only like it if I can use the normal buttons to fire.

So far this game is great on wi-fi. I played about 10 matches last night, and had some mixed experiences, one cool thing was if a person camps, the ds will say "coward detected", and an arrow will point you to where they are...LOL.. now thats pretty cool, too bad XBL couldn't have that with some of their games.. :D All in all, this is fun online, don't sweat the control scheme, although Jasoco, your not going to like any of the controls, so far the shoulder buttons are only avilable for shooting and jumping. Sorry. However the game is great online, and so far the offline, is damn fun as well. so enjoy. Oh and a DP tourney.. HELLZ YEAH... count me in.

This game is pretty good for a handheld. The only thing is since I'm left handed, I had to adjust the controls. But still, my hands start cramping after around 30-45 minutes of playing. I was also surprised by the frame rate, it's very, very smooth.
I have yet to play on wi-fi but I will soon. I can't wait.

Anyone wanna play online, leave your friend code.... I am on now, looking for some good matches.
We should definitely exchange friend codes. I really want to play some of the different multiplayer game types. Here's mine:

Game arrived this morning. Only booted it up briefly (damn you, Tetris!), but the graphics are stunning. Yes, it is grainy. Yes, it is pixelated. But boy, does it still look the part!
FMV sequences are also impressive, and the menu music rocks. I can't wait to put some serious time into this game!
Oh, and the controls are awesome - even better than the demo, which I thought was good.

I have to say, even though I found the stylus very comfortable to use with the demo, it hasn't felt quite the same with the full game. So I whipped out the thumb strap last night, and I fell in love!
I would absolutely recommend trying the thumb strap. It was comfortable, natural and I didn't have any problems jumping. Plus I found I was more accurate than using the stylus.

I picked this up over the weekend (argh, too bad I can't stop playing Tetris long enough to put some real time in).
Anyway, I absolutely love the single player adventure. I didn't really care for the demo, so whatever they did to tweak the game works for me.
I really like the default controls with the thumbpad thingy. This is the first time that I've used to the thumbpad, but I found it surprisingly easy to control. For me at least, it's much easier to be accurate than with a dual analog stick control scheme. I've read in a couple of reviews that the hand begins to cramp after playing for a while. My hands are rather average size for an adult male, and my left hand did start to cramp up after a couple hours of playing. I think that I just need to get used to holding the DS like that.
My only gripe thus far is with the online mode. I had no problem connecting to one other player. In fact, I played against two opponents - both in 1 on 1 matches. What pissed me off is that both of these people just simply rolled up into ball form and bombed the hell out of me for the whole match. I tried to play smart and whatnot, but it seemed like I just could not defeat them in their rolled up form. Maybe I just suck at the game so far, but I thought that this was a rather lame way to be deathmatching.
All in all, a game that was much better than I expected. Hopefully I can get into the online mode.
