What a great game. I beat it awhile ago when it came out, and I'm not a big PC gamer. I've tried a ton of other FPS, but I don't really like multiplayer, and other than Half life 2, none of them have come CLOSE to being as good as FEAR. Doom 3, and Quake 4 didn't last very long at all. Quake 4 was ok, but doom 3 got shelved VERY quickly.

Anyways, are there any other games that came out within the past 2-3 years that are similar to FEAR? I'm currently re-installing it to go through again, I tried going through half life 2 again, but it's just not holding my interest.

I enjoyed this game, too. But honestly, I can't think of any good FPS's that have come out on the PC, in the past few years.

Far Cry would probably be your best bet if you haven't tried it yet. And obviously, since you can run F.E.A.R, you can run Far Cry. And if you can find a copy now, I happened to enjoy Tron 2.0

Battlefield 2 is a good game, too. even though it's not an FPS. You may definately wanna keep an eye out for Prey.

F.E.A.R. is a really awesome game. I played the demo forever ago when it was released online and still have yet to buy it. I've seen it in a nice collectors box for $40 new and have been temped a few times. I love a lot of Sierras games.

But as for other games, you might want to look around in deed. The only ones I can think of in the past year besides this are Quake 4, Battlefield 2, and Stubbs the Zombie. Obviously I don't follow FPS on the PC much at all, but try Stubbs the Zombie. It's hillarious and violent as hell.

If you want some older games though, get some of the Unreal games, Turnament versions being really nice. Unreal Gold is great because it's under $5 new some places and has a huge world you move around in to complete your missions similar to Quake 1 & 2. Also you can always fall back on the first Half-life and it's many add-ons and mods.

I went up to Target the other day and picked up the Battlefield 1942 Complete collection for $30 and it's pretty nice. I never played the Battlefield games and found this quite fun. It's a zone control strategy FPS so get the Battlefield games only if that's what you're into instead of some long level plot of being Rambo taking out billions of Nazi's.

This was a really entertaining game. I love the slomo and brutality of combat. There were some pretty sweet scares in it too, especially towards the end. Also watching a nuke happen about a mile away from your face was damn cool.

It may be a bit older than this time frame; but have you ever tried "Clive Barker's Undying?" If you've never played it, I highly recommend picking it up. It's graphically aged but a damn fun experience! Good shooter with a spell casting system and tons of great scares and intense moments.

Yes Fear was awesome the fire fights were HL1 great.... and the AI was the best I've seen in years...

I would recommend:

Farcry, Painkiller, Jedi Knight 2, Serious Sam 2 (it's cheap now, really cheap), Psi Ops, Manhunt, Chronicles of Riddick, UT2004... yeah I added 3rd person sue me. ;)

F.E.A.R. was enjoyable, certainly, but it wasn't up to Half-Life 2's standards. There wasn't much variety to F.E.A.R.'s gameplay, and the levels were a little samey.

I would also argue that it is one of the worst engines I've seen. It looks a little drab, and it is a real drain on the system. Monolith's engines have always been a little hit and miss.

The AI was pretty neat, though.

I've been really wanting to play F.E.A.R but sadly I can't even think about running it on my current PC set up. Maybe some nice company like Aspyre or MacSoft will make a Universal Binary version so I can scream through it on my G5 :)

Serious Sam! Ya, forgot about that. Get it, it's well worth it!

Depends what about F.E.A.R. you liked. If it's the atmospheric elements, I'd second Undying, and add System Shock 2 (a bit more dated than Undying, and heavier on RPG elements, but absolute gold), and keep an eye out for the upcoming Bioshock. For shooty gameplay, Painkiller and Serious Sam 1/2 pretty much define the genre in that respect. Half-Life 1 and 2 and Doom 3 (which you said you didn't care for) are good for mods if nothing else.

The best thing I liked about fear, is probably the fact that it's more like metal gear solid than the other games :)

I really don't care for the doom type games where the enemies just run straight at you attacking no matter how many rounds you pump into them.

Halflife 2 was great, but after going back to it it just feels like it's missing something. That and I wish I could skip the damned story the second time through :/
