Well say what you can about power but those aren't impressive. I don't know how they were planning on launching in spring.
Hopefully they'll give this one the same re-treatment the Frame City Killer is getting.

No it definitely doesn't look too bad, but it certainly doesn't come close to big Next-gen experience we're already seeing. Which is definitely not what Sony has been preaching and it certianly doesn't do much for the people sitting on the fence who have already seen products like Fight Night and GRAW running in real-time.
If that's what we see at launch things are gonna be very interesting.

RE 4 on the gamecube still looks better then that.

Definitly not bad, and I'm definitly not dissapointed.
It would be alot better to see these pictures in an actual clip to see how smooth/unsmooth the animations and what not are. We will not see full potential for quite some time. I expect great things, as they said at the last E3 that the PS3 has two times the power of a XBox360. And Xbox360 has some pretty impressive looking games around.

GAF and the rest of the internet has already made fun of these screenshots over and over. These screenies are easily on par with the 'badness' that is Wallguy.

My impressions: The environments don't look too bad. I would not mind seeing shots with more color in them, and I would like to see it in motion before I make a final judgement.
The main character looks absolutely horrid. I mean seriously.. who the fucked designed him?

It looks pretty good, but I would be lying if I said I was blown away.
Remember when the N64 came out? The graphics for that blew me away. Same with the Dreamcast. This level of graphics has already been achieved by the Xbox 360, and even the Gamecube.

regardless of the quality of the graphics the content is mad weak for "first look" screenies.
i'm not an xbox fan- don't own one don't plan to- but let me just play devils advocate and show, for comparison purposes, one of the first screens that was made available for DOA4- one of the 360's first games. posted on gaming-age.com in May 2005.

that's what i wanna see in a "first look" screeny: close-cropped action, not too much empty background, tons of detail, way too many polygons to count, nice lighting effects, nice action shot, more than one character, and titties, titties, titties. ;)

Haha, good point. Nothing tells me a system is great like Hitomi's sweet titties.

With the widescreen format and the current-gen graphics I thought "Oooh, a new Medievil for the PSP!".
those are screens for the untold legends game coming to ps3, that's like showing off dark alliance 2 as a typical xbox game lol

Those screenshots look incredibly poor to me, not at all what I was expecting to see. But well, maybe PS3 is hard to programme for again and it will take a while to get going.
And well, maybe it's just a crap game.

Anything claiming to be a screenshot of a PS3 game in action is making quite a claim, since just TWO DAYS AGO Ken Kutaragi announced that final Dev Kits wont be shipped until June. So those graphics probably are on par with current PC, because it's running on a current PC and being developed on a current PC. I find it highly unlikely, and very improbable that those images are of the PS3 version.
Just my two cents.

You know they send out beta kits that are close to but not exactly final hardware right? While i doubt that the final game will look that bad, it is now running on something considerably more PS3 like then a PC.
But that aside here's an article that discusses how they're using the cell with the game. http://ps3.ign.com/articles/695/695890p1.html

even if that's the case there are much better looking games currently available for PC. a top of the line graphics card and the right game can look way better than that screenshot does- and any developer who's designing a game for the PS3 has a nice top of the line graphics card.
edit:
but, again, i don't think it's the quality of the graphics that make this look so bad, it's the barren, simplistic lay-out. it's reminiscent of the sorts of screens we were getting from PSone games (tomb raider anyone?).

Looks pretty average but considering the type of game looks good
IMO to compare the screenshots to doa 4 screenshots to totally different looks but It's not that impressive of graphics so far, we will see.

hmmm those screenshots look like a hybrid PS2-lotsa textures-GC-SHINY STUFF- game :hmm:
$400-$500 for THIS naaa ill stick with my current slim line PS2 thank u very much Sony or at least until MGS4
Even though the GC is all but dead -they r practically giving them away in Japan- Im sure that Twilight Princess will look just as good as this PS3 game
I go for what system has the GAMES not wich one has an extra polygon or two thats why I prefer PS2 for current gen over the others n to be honest the Xbox360 is looking better and better everyday especially if they continue to get large amounts of 3rd party support here in the U.S. - I dont give a shit about what happens in Japan

As with the 360, I'm still not all that impressed. I knew 360 wasn't really 'next gen' and now it looks like the PS3 isn't either.
Well, I'll wait, but looks like I'll end up buying a Rev. first.

agreed
It looks as though for most of us here at DP are not impressed with the so-called "Next-generation" so far :/
I miss the days of 9/9/99 when the DC was launched now THAT WAS A TRUE NEXT GENERATION LEAP IMO and the last time for many of us here at DP will have that "WOW" experience that the likes of Soul Calibur provided.
There is a possibility that the Revo will provide that "wow" factor but in a much different form in that it will be in the gameplay department and not in the graphical capabilities of the system.
This all leads back to a piont I have tried to make time and again and that is : THIS generation still had LOTS of life left in it much moreso than the conventional 4-5 year life cycle that was the standard before it and unfortunately the only major player of the big 3 to realize this is SONY and their continued support of the PS2 both in hardware-slimline PS2- and software-God of war 2, continued 3rd party support etc.
I think many gamers will be suprised at how the general public will not be as enthusiastic about picking up an expensive PS3 as they were for the PS2 and at how many of them are perfectly content with the current DVD format unlike the old VHS format wich everyone knew (well most lol) was outdated back in '2000 and wont be convinced that they HAVE TO HAVE A BLUE-RAY or HD DVD player since DVD is still a very viable and popular format among the masses of both movie buffs and gamers.
The old arguement that we (the gamers) HAVE TO HAVE BLUE RAY OR HD-DVD is a lame one since many of todays games still DO NOT use all of the storage capacity that a DVD provides for example look at how many PC games are still released on a single or couple of CDs.

What bullshit. We have waited 5 years for this crap? They want to charge 350-500 US! God remember the days of N64 when for about $200-250 US you got a true Next gen console. Sony and MS, why not cut all the crap like blue ray, HD, hard drives, etc and just make a old fashioned GAME console and create a powerful system which just processes a game! Im sure the graphics would be worth looking at than.
Going by this rate, the PS5 will contain cartoony unrealistic graphics :(
yet what's worse is that Im getting a Rev and the graphics are meant to be even worse than PS3/XBOX 360, that controller better the best thing since sliced bre.......NES :P

As a work in progress, I'm impressed enough. Doesn't the new OPM have these shots plus some additional games that are coming out?
If the game looks like that in September/October, then I'll cry foul.

These outdo the PS2 and look decent, but these aren't what I was expecting and hoping for. The environments look nice, and I would imagine that it looks pretty nice in motion as well. But it still feels a little flat and definitely not 'next gen' (whatever that means). I definitely expect the bigger name titles to look better than this.

Two things.
The first is that these new machines' architectures are so complex that it will be a few years before people really start to tap into their true potential. We may be getting a little taste of that with Oblivion.
The second is that we will all probably agree that last gen was looking pretty good. All this current gen can do is make the same surfaces prettier, the environments more dense, etc. Basically, as photorealism rises, the amount of noticeable improvement decreases along with it.
This is probably why Nintendo saw it was time to do a turn around and start going for new gameplay aspects because they knew 1. The graphics competition is kinda moot ( worst graphics won last gen anyway ) and 2. It's going to be really expensive to try and keep up with all of their graphics technology.
So, their strategy is provide a comparable graphics solution ( that just plays games! ) but an entirely new gameplay experience.

Does the PS3 have the same color palette as the Genesis?
That game looks like it's only displaying 64 colors onscreen! These screens are incredibly washed out, and I think that there isn't a chance in hell that the PS3 is going to be that crappy. I would simply dismiss this as very early development and piss poor screen grabs.
Nothing to see here, move along.

OUR GAME HAS REALLY REALLY DETAILED LEAVES...on the...featureless grass?
Does the PS3 have the same color palette as the Genesis?
Ohh man, high five. LOL
If the game looks like that in September/October, then I'll cry foul.
Can they ditch all their work and start over in the time Sony has announced for their delay? Well, I just hope they get some good looking levels and textures in, really.

Jade Empire looks just as "impressive" as the PS3's "True Next Gen" does.
Reality Synthesiser, graphics as good as Spiderman CG, awesome power of playstation.... Sony's blown smoke up our asses. AGAIN.

The screenshots of the big guy remind me of the Kameo screenshots that came out after E3, except without 40 enemies on the screen.
I'm still not impressed with "next-gen" graphics, like I'm not with the 360. Usually there's a significant difference between generations, but like someone else said, compare these screens to RE4. There doesn't look to be that much difference to me. I don't see why I have to spend big money for this junk.
