There was new pics of someone's insane room of doom that got posted on just about every forum on the internet. I wouldn't be surprised if it got /.'d as well.

That's actually our best guess... slashdot effect hitting one of the RoD's.

Ya, it's been down for some time and took a guess on another thread that either someone is attacking it or spamming around to rob the site of bandwidth. Seems like they need to set up a no hot-linking portion, although that's a very harsh but realistic response to this loss. I was up til 4am taking pictures and setting up everything just to see the site go down 3 days later. God I hope it comes back on-line soon.

Yeah my room is on there too and I wanted to update it with some new pics. I also wanted to show some friends who now live far away. Sucks.

Well, i've noticed that there have been a LOT of blank albumbs showing up there over the past year, And wouldn't be surprised if they all were owned by the same person.

I saw the same post of a guy's room on no fewer than 5 websites in the same day. It showed up here as well - with the Exertainment machine and his son appearing in some pictures. By the time I looked at the picture that was linked to, it had 38,000 hits alone and was 1600x1200. So they won't be up for a while.

So can it be said for certain that the reason for the shutdown was that guy's collection that was being shown on many forums which is why the collections page is now down down or is that just one theory?

I believe that is the biggest contributing factor. Oh well, we'll just have to wait it out and hope that those blog posts get archived soon! Personally, I know what it's like to have a site downed due to bandwidth restrictions, so if I'm posting a picture or file link somewhere, I use my own web server so the same thing doesn't happen.

Interesting that no moderator has joined this conversation and has given us the skinny. Wonder why. Not to bash them at all or anything, just thought they may have some input on this. Any Moderators out there or does anyone know one they can email to find out what really has happened?

If you want their attention you should've just made two totally unrelated sale threads in the B&S Forum. They'll get right with you then.

Oops didn't notice AB was a moderator, any who. I know it may be kind of mean but why don't you ask that guy to get his own space if he is hogging up all the bandwith. I mean I have seen his collection and it is AMAZING and have to give him props for it. However, its kind of ruining the site for the rest of us. Maybe if he had less pics or something it would be less attractive. I have no clue about that sort of stuff and how it works , just an idea. Personally, maybe Joe should charge a small small fee to help pay for the bandwith that us users use to post the pics for the gamerooms. That way maybe he can get even more bandwith, I personally wouldn't mind paying to help the cause, can't speak for everyone else though. I am probably am opening up a really bad can of worms but its just an idea.

Or maybe you could invest in your own space to host your pictures without the burden of dealing with situations such as this?

I guess, but I rather have pics up with other collectors, I guess I could host a new collectors page but I have no time for that, I would also want to charge people a small monthly fee to pay for the bandwith and have no clue how that would go over. Either way, the point of this conversation is going no where so. lets get it deleted and save some space on here.

Can't they go in there and change the links? (I'm assuming there's some web page tool to do a find and replace job on hundereds of links, is there?)

Well, we could, if the site were up.

Dude, I love ya, but suck it up. Seriously.

Of course as you saw, a mod already did. I also responded to this thread (http://www.digitpress.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=82543&highlight=) and answered it there.
Summary: it's down until we hit the next billing cycle, at which point hopefully the storm will have been weathered.
