Any help here is greatly appreciated.

Perhaps it's broken, perhaps I just am missing something.

The Sega CD (front loader) that I picked up yesterday has the metal plate, and the smaller metal connection (under the plate).

I tried two different power adapters, both of which worked on the Genesis 1 unit.

If I remembered correctly, all you had to do is turn on the Genesis unit, and (if there was no cart in the Genesis), the CD unit would power-up.

This would be indicated by a green and red light, and some kind of on-screen menu.

Am I missing something? Does anyone know if there is a way I can test this to see if it works at all?

Again, thanks in advance for your help.

Steve

There was a post about this somewhere in the archives with a lot of good suggestions. Every Model 1 I personally have had to fix has had a blown fusible resistor looking deal back on the power supply that is bad. Symptoms are that the system is just plain dead. If you open the CD system in the back left corner (facing the front of the system) you will see a small green vertically mounted resistor. This is usually bad. Use a meter to test it or just take a pair of pliers and twist the leads together and short them out. If it is dead this won't make it deader :)

If it works after that, track down a small fuse to put in its place. I normally just solder in a piece of wire and have yet to have trouble with the system.

My Sega CD1 turned out to have a fried voltage regulator/transistor. I still haven't gotten around to fixing it.
