Just picked up a dedicated Nintendo r type cab in great shape working for $50 and im going monday to get the other $50 Commando cab but the screen is out in it.

Everything on the rtype works except the screen is only about half the size. I tried to adjust it using the screw to make it stretched out and it has no effect. Anyone have any ideas?

Will post pics in a few days once I put the new bulbs and clean it up a little more.

It's not a dedicated R-Type cab - there isn't one. :) It's a Nintendo vs. Unisystem cab with R-Type installed. Great score, especially for $50!

Not sure what you mean by "the screw." There should be a row of white pots for screen adjustment/sizing on the back of the monitor. If you tried adjusting those and it didn't help, you'll either need to replace the pots (do they spin freely, or stop at two points?), or do a cap kit (or both).

Without seeing it, it most likely needs a cap kit. The Nintendo monitors are a bitch to get out and remove the board from, although after that, replacing the caps is fairly straightforward. If it's your first one, read up on it (a lot) before you do anything, and BE CAREFUL! http://www.arcaderestoration.com has a picture of all the caps you'll need to replace, it's a GREAT reference for finding them quickly and will definitely save you time and cut down on potential errors.

It sounds like you're off to a good start...I would definitely suggest you check out Bob Roberts' articles on the following page:

LOTS of great info (even some monitor-specific guides) and he also sells parts that are hard to come by (I personally buy parts from him on a regular basis). Hope this helps!

yeah AA I was talking about the pots. They go to one side and stop and they turn the other way and stop .

I thought it was dedicated per the info on KLOV . It stated there was dedecated machines. Either way is good with me.

Now I need to find some info on this Nintendo vs. Unisystem cab stuff so I can see whats swappable.

Thanks for the info Im going to try the cap kit first.

Cool - they might be fine then. I'd start with the cap kit (a good thing to do regardless) and see how it looks after that.

The klov, while a great resource, has a ton of incorrect info on it. But y'know, now that I look at it again, I think it's *not* a Vs. title. (Bummer for swapping out stuff).

However, AFAIK, there were no dedicated units - they're just kits with the standard Nintendo cab painted black. If you can locate the metal plate on your machine, it should have serial # or original game # info on it. Perhaps it is a dedicated machine, which would be a super-sweet find! Keep us posted! :)

Cool here are a few teaser pics.

EDIT well I guess not today since imageshack isnt working for me. :P

As far as the plate it does say RTP , I guess that stands for r type.

On the second pic, it looks like there's some stray paint near the top of the cab, above the sideart -- if it's under the black paint, it's a regular blue Nintendo cab painted black. The interior is the same.

In any case, that's still a fantastic find. :)
