One of the rare RPG's I enjoy are the Elder Scrolls games. So naturally, I'm gonna get Oblivion on Tuesday. No brainer...
Problem.... I've got the 360. And I've got a damn good PC that, I'm sure, will run it well. (Athlon
X2 4400 and A pair of 7800GT's - the games' specs are supposed to be mammoth!)
Which version do I wanna get? PC or the 360? I can't decide! I'm sure the PC version will have a limited edition, too. Which will most likely have alot more schwag than the 360 version, but I just can't make up my mind, seeing as I'm sure the PC limited edition would probably run around $80, minimum.
So what version is everyone else getting? Maybe that will help in the decision process.

PC if you love graphics, 360 if you like simple.

I have both the PC and Xbox version of Morrowind GOTY edition, and if Oblivion is anything like Morrowind will be, I say the PC version all the way.
Mods, better load times, and then later on, upgraded textures.

Im getting the 360 version. Even though im sure my PC could run it without any problems im sure the 360 can handle it much much better then most pcs out thare.
Plus i perfered the feel of the xbox controller better for Morrowind that combined with the gamerpoints and being able to do stuff on live while playing? No question the 360 version for me.

Well considering I don't have a 360 yet, I will be getting it for PC but im not sure if i will get it next week, I do want to pick up the strategy guide for something to do.

I'm pretty sure that the PC and 360 collector editions both have the same extras, and the 360 version is actually more expensive (60 bucks for the PC collector edition, and 70 bucks for the XBox one). From the pictures that have been released, both versions look about the same, graphics-wise.
I've chosen to buy the PC version -- the main reason (other than the fact that I don't have an XBox 360 yet ;)) is add-on content. Like Morrowind, Oblivion will support user-created add-ons. The PC version will fully support these, while the XBox 360 version won't (though there will certainly be 'official' content for both platforms). However, I don't think you can really go wrong either way -- the developers claim they've tried hard to make the game play well on both platforms, so you should have a decent experience regardless of which version you choose.

I've played the elder scrolls series from arena to morrowind on pc and this will be no exception. I couldn't imagine playing an elder scrolls title on anything else. Not just that but the fact that my pc could run it just fine, better control IMO, and the assured future of a mod community seals the deal for me.

What he said.
I had the PC and have the Xbox GOTY editions of Morrowind (I got rid of my Alienware rig, so sold the game ;) and I played both to death.
I had more fun on the Xbox version of Morrowind. And I am sure that Oblivion will be the same.
I really don't care about the Construction Set and the mods of TES games. Mainly because they are so good, and such a huge and involving game to begin with, I simply do not care.
And AFAIK the LE has the same contents on both PC and Xbox 360.
If you are a pure graphics whore, and don't care about the simple, as Njiska put it, aspects of playing it on the Xbox, then you should probably get the PC version and hope you can run it maxed out and not kill your poor rig. :D

If and when I do, 360. I'll be playing it in 720p on something bigger than my computer monitor, no question.

Sorry to go off topic, but will this game be first person or third person?
Thanks

It probably has both options like Morrowind but the game is the most fun in 1st person view.

GOOD NEWS 360 OWNERS!! According to the CompUSA ad this week, Oblivion on the 360 is $44.99 for the regular version.
So all you 360 buyers, who don't care what version you get, go to CompUSA!
I think I've decided to go with the 360 version. Because I have a HDTV, the games gonna look good no matter what version I play it on. Plus, it's all about the achivement points, baby! And I'm sure the 360 version will have downloadable content on down the road.
I may get the PC version after the price drops a little.

45 bucks? Damn. Too bad I'm a sucker for CE's.
On a related note, appearantly GameStop has closed its reserve SKU for the Limited Edition. Here's hoping I can find one of them at Target or Best Buy.

Well, I don't have a 360 (then again, who does?) and I don't have a really awesome PC. But if I had the choice, probably the 360 version, since I'm mostly a console gamer to begin with.

if your pc can handle it, its the only option. hd 780 or even 1080 doesnt hold a candle to a pc monitor.
plus, the downloadable player made content is the greatest thing that has happened to morrowind, and im sure oblivion as well.

Well I don't have a 360 and I have a good PC so the choice is easy enough for me. I guess it depends what you want out of the game.

Yeah, I read that article... It still couldn't help me decide. I also read that CompUSA is also selling the PC version of the Collectors Edition for the price of the normal 360 version.
So my ealrier decision is now back up in the air. The only thing thats making me lean towards the PC version is the character development is supposedly better on the PC. And admittedly, everything about the PC version will be much tighter from graphics to the mouse and keyboard controls. But PC games are always more buggy out of the box...

360 version all the way for me.
Apparently both versions look about the same in HD, but the Xbox has shorter load times.
If I got the pc version, I'd be chained to the desk with my keyboard and mouse, whereas with the 360 one I can chill out on the couch and play on the big screen with 7.1 WMA Pro sound.
Achievement points are always groovy to have and are a valid reason to re-explore areas that you'd only pass through once or twice in the PC version.
I never understood how to use the construction kit for morrowind, so the lack of one for 360 won't bother me at all.
They both have downloadable content, but xbox 360's is easier to integrate into your main game.... and finally....
I don't have to spend forever installing the damn game, updating my GFX drivers and rebooting before I can play it. Just slide the disc in, sit back, and enjoy.
I think I've explained my reasons.

360 version all the way for me.
Apparently both versions look about the same in HD, but the Xbox has shorter load times.
The 360 one has longer load times.
The graphics are almost the same but the 360 one has some slow down here and there.
But that being said you need litterally a top of the line PC for this game and even sometimes you get hiccups.

Yeah, I assumed loadtimes would be better on PC. However, I am not noticing huge problems or anything, game goes faster at loading then most of the 360 games, like COD2 etc.
Beautiful game. Every single Quest is a story, lots of characters to get attached to.
PC, no contest. Fan-made Mods, .ini tweaking to improve features (I reduced grass density and was able to increase its draw distance without a performance hit, plus I can see the wolves now LOL ), and I assume official expansions (like Bloodmoon and Tribunal; horse armor doesn't count...) would be PC exclusive until some sort of all-encompassing 360 version, like with the Morrowind GOTY Edition.

I have high hopes for the downloads popping up on XboX live, I'd bet my controller they'll have some sort of expansion on Live, probably both controllers that all of them will be, and perhaps a retail disc to boot if you need it.

It's hard to believe they could add any more to this game @_@

after my 1st full weekend with the 360 on a WS HDTV at Darren's I'm now a 360 convert. I'm use to PC rpg games that are fps like though. both run great.

Okay, I've played the 360 version, and I must say, the controls SUCK. So, again, if I had the choice, I'm not going with the 360 version. Mouse and keyboard for me.

If they make a UB version that runs on OS X that's the one I'll get.

Same here, I was always thinking PC was better for graphics... but at this stage its no longer the case, although I'm sure in 2 years PC will surpass it for sure.

Probably true.... PC hardware has always had the edge on most hardware out there. So the PC will be the rig of choice around that time.
But a tri-core (or more) processor may take a while to adapt to the PC market.

Yeah they equipped the 360 really well this generation, I'm hoping it takes them a while to catch up for PC!

this is hte stupid ass fanboying that i hate the most. why would you wish for technology to stand still? i understand you bought an xbox 360, and so did i, but so what? better technology leads to better games.
heres to hoping that every single day we see something new or improved.
