I find it very amusing (in a sick sort of way) how this has happened to me lately. I'm sure I'm not alone.

You're looking for a game, it eludes you for some time, you finally get it, and sometimes you may even overpay a bit, JUST TO HAVE IT NOW, because it eluded you for so long you were OK slightly overpaying.

Then, the next week when you're out randomly hunting games, you SPOT said game and for cheaper than what you spent on it.

I don't know what it is, but that has happened to me a bit. I'd buy something on eBay, and then in the wild find it for cheaper. Not 1 month later, but THE VERY NEXT DAY. In other cases, it's been a week or so.

Am I the only gamer who has experienced that "pain"? Is there a "lingo" for what I'm describing? And isn't it amazing how it seems to happen so frequently?

On the flipside, nothing beats losing or missing an eBay auction, only to find the same game in the wild the next day/week... that's the best damn feeling in the whole wide world :D ;)

I think that's happened with to all of us, but it hasn't happened to me in a long time. ...the last time it did was over a copy of Duck Hunt for the NES. Yes, Duck Hunt. For some reason I could never come across the normal Duck Hunt standalone cartridge. So I finally bit the bullet and won an eBay auction for a loose copy for 50 cents, of course it was more like $5 after shipping, but oh well - it was worth it to get the monkey off my back.

The next day, before the cartridge from eBay arrived and probably before it was even shipped, I was out at the flea market and came across a loose Duck Hunt. The seller wanted....... 50 cents ironically enough. Of course I bought it, for 50 cents why not. Go into GameCrazy the next day and bam, there are three copies of it in the display case. I passed on those though.

Still have those two loose copies with the rest of the NES games. If anything it proves desired games don't always have to be all that rare or expensive. In this case, super common and dirt cheap. LOL

Yep. I won Bust-a-Move 300 for the US Cube off eBay for $30 (the going rate) and then a few days later, find a seller mate in the UK selling a sealed copy. Which I got off him for 6 GBP. Typical...

It happened to me yesterday, actually. A few weeks back while caught up in Olympic fever I bought a loose copy of Olympic Gold for Genny and on impulse a loose copy of F-22 Interceptor, both for $5 each.

Yesterday I had to do a job assignment way out of town. As I was driving back I spotted this thrift store in a dinky little town called Espanola. I stopped in figuring "...because you never know." Sho `nuff, there were complete copies of Olympic Gold and F22 sitting there for $1 each. In fact, those were the only two game-related items in the entire store. Crazy world @_@...

it's happened to me before, but i don't really mind. as long as you didn't overpay for the first copy you can always sell it to get your money back, or it usually makes good trade fodder.

Yup. About a month ago I picked up a sealed copy of F-Zero GP Legend for $29 at a near by Game Crazy.

A few days ago the wife and I decide to head over to Best Buy, we hadn't been in months, and what do I find in the GBA section? The very same game on clearance for $9.99.

Gah, I should have just picked it up to flip onto Ebay. There were a bunch of good games there for $4.99 to $9.99 for all the systems except Xbox 360. -_-

About a year ago i purchased a complete mint condition copy of Hurricanes from a fellow DP member for 30 dollars. A month later I was at a local retro gamestore and found 2 loose copies for 2.95 each. Naturally i bought both of them because it's an R7 and I don't feel too ashamed for paying 30 for the first one beacause that copy is about as mint as they come.

Within the last few months, I purchased these games loose for SNES at various thrifts and used game retailers:

-Super Star Wars
-Super Empire Strikes Back
-Super Return of the Jedi
-Super Castlevania IV

Last week, I found (and bought) these games complete and in mint condition as part of a HUGE bundle at another thrift store:

-Super Star Wars
-Super Empire Strikes Back
-Super Return of the Jedi
-Super Castlevania IV

Been there.

It works both ways. Game gives you hell trying to find it, finally shows up and you buy it, only to find a ton more show up afterwards. Or game is everywhere, so you delay buying it, thinking that it will always be there to buy, then when you're ready to buy it, it's nowhere to be found.

Yeah, it's happened to me before:

When I got my N64 in 2004, I had to get a copy of Mario 64, and bought a loose one for $15. The next week, I saw two loose copies for $5 each.

Shortly after that, I bought a loose Genesis 6-pak for $5.50. Two weeks later, I see the cart at another store for $2.50. A week after that, I see another one for 50 cents.

Last year, I decided to splurge and spend $30 on Racing Gears Advance. A week and half later, it dropped to $19.99 almost everywhere.

:frustrated:

Yep. Mega Man 2 from EB, $13

St. Vincent the next day, $2. Also picked up extra copy. Of course that was a couple of years ago.

I think the only time that happened to me was when I had just started collecting a few years ago. I really wanted to get a copy of Yoshi's Island for the SNES, and a store had it for sale for something like $30. I didn't really care at the time, and I genuinelly thought that the cart was worth that much, so I bought it.
Then, a few days later I found it at a thrift for about 5 bucks. I still bought it though, because its a pretty desirable game and I knew that I could trade it off.

The thing that's realy important to me is when I see a game I've wanted for a long time and finaly find for a high price, I have to decide. Can I accept this? Yes? No? If I can accept it, then even when I find the game later on for a cheaper price it doesnt bother me because I got the game for a price I was willing to pay. If I wasnt willing to pay said price, I'd have just waited. More often then not, I have to pass on multiple copies of the same game untill I find it at a price I'm willing to pay. When I was looking for the Saturn release of Macross:Do You Remember Love, I found it for anything from $50, on down to $15. There was literaly no difference between each of the 3 I found except price. Sure, I may find it for $10, I may even find it for $5. Thing is, finding it at $15 was a deal I could accept.
