It's only been 4 months and the 360 is hacked using an exploit that worked on the original box. Rip the key and integrate it into the firmware.
My hat's off to The Specialist for this outstanding hack.

Well, I guess thats cool. I think its interesting that they said they didn't release it to the public because it would be used for piracy, yet in the video they show a copied PGR 3 game being played.

They haven't released it to the public for fear of Microsoft suing them to hell and back, and becuase there's no way for them to make money and sell the exploit. When it ends up on chip format or a special CD that you have to boot off of to upgrade your firmware, or a stand alone kit ... then you'll see it for sale, guaranteed.

You know someone in charge of security at M$ is getting a royal ass chewing about this.

Yeah, I can see that being the way.

Can be real, can be fake. In this video, you dont see behind the TV so its fully possible that another xbox360 is connected to the TV. Altho I remember when the xbox was hacked, simular videos like this was going around on the net, which turned out to be real.
This hack is not very practical and useful to the public.
It says you have to open your xbox360, open the dvd-rom and desolder @_@ the chip which contains the firmware. Seems that flashing isnt a walk in the park either.
So id say this doesnt affect MS, atleast for now. Now that its out i'm sure they take it serious and are analyzing to see if its really possible.

Not to mention, any bad publicity for the 360 only helps the like of sony and there newly delayed ps3, any bad news/publicity for the 360 is good news for the competition right?
I'm hooked on the idea of nintendo winning this new console war, thats the way these companys should look at it, it's survival of the fitest, look at the dreamcast great machine, but it was buried in the end!..
---- Venting! ----
All out corporate warfare!.. Nintendo and MS need to shut down sony, (a hard battle) but hell sony get on my nerves i love there TV's but there's something about the Playstation i just can't take?

ok...that's such an awesome hack! This is so impractical it's funny. Why make such a desperate attempt to play a freaking burned game on a machine that costs 400? Who knows if the video is even real anyways....wow, there's a cable connected to the front inputs, so it's really playing a burned game!
I'll tell you the best hack I've seen for people wanting to play stolen games....the game thieves in AZ who've been hitting retail chains all over the valley and stealing 1000+ worth of 360 games each visit. Those were mad hacks.
whoop dee doo.
Congrats on raising the price yet again on games.

well, after speaking to certain people in the know, this hack will not only allow us to run copies (a Bad Thing), it also opens the doors to homebrew (a Good Thing) and emulation (a Very Good Thing). Rumour has it that a version of MAME is being ported to 360 as we speak.
If this blows the doors off the hinges like XB1 did, then we'll be seeing all kinds of crazy stuff for 360 soon, and with the sheer power of the 360 behind it, I'm sure as hell looking forward to playing MAME CHD games and Daytona USA at a solid 60fps.
Couldn't care less about copies... but I'll be hacking my machine as soon as the emu's start rolling out.

You do realize that will probably mean you'll lose Live and no longer be able to attend fight night. And remember once you're in the only way out is the grave. :P

I would just get a second system. A Thing Two to the original Thing One, if you will.

I for one can't wait for the Xbox 360 to get hacked. I don't know about anyone else here, but I use my Xbox more than any other system I own - simply because it can play Xbox games, stream videos from my computer's hard drive, emulate every system up to the N64/PS1 with perfect or near-perfect quality, etc etc.
With the Xbox 360 we'll be able to have flawless N64 emulators, a Dreamcast emulator, and possibly emulators for current gen systems. Right now the Xbox's N64 emulator can't run Perfect Dark, Donkey Kong 64 or Banjo-Tooie.

as it's a DVD firmware hack with the original key of your original firmware, and not a hack or bypass of the actual system's protections, the hack allows you to play on live apparently, both with originals and copies... much akin to the recently released Xbox 1 DVD firmware.. best of both worlds!

Yes for now. But that doesn't mean the system can't be updated to do a simple firmware check.

Which was done before with the update that made the Kiosk disc no longer work.

I'm considering buying an old xbox used and modding it, may do the same in a few years with 360.

I stand corrected per my earlier prediction. From an xbox-scene news post:
We have made some progress with a new read/patch/write app and no doubt you will all be plugging in your drives to your PC and having some fun shortly - all for free too as no modchips required (and yes we still want to play!)
Here is what we envisage...
* Connect Xbox 360 DVD-ROM to PC
* App to update firmware with magic code
* Connect DVD-ROM back to 360 - and away you go
