This topic isn't for me but my sister-in-law who is internet lacking. She has just finished polishing off Dragon Quest 8 in about 130 hours and she was kinda disappointed that it didn't take longer, she felt that 7 took longer to complete. She's looking for any really REALLY long RPGs for the Gamecube or PS2. Any thoughts would be great.
Thanks
Jon

jesus christ.

For PS2 and Gamecube, I don't know of anything that even begins to compare (singleplayer-wise). I guess you could give her a PC and hook her up with stuff like Baldur's Gate II, Wizardry 7 and 8, etc.

Dragon Warrior VII is like one of the longest RPG's. There isnt much toping it, if anything really.

I know it dosent realy help but Morrowind for the xbox or pc you can totaly sink in over 1000 hours doing the side-quests and exploring.

Well, maybe this is just me, but FFX took me quite awhile. Not the game itself, but all the side stuff....mostly the monster arena. I have a file where I have been playing about 130-140 hours. But that was my first time through and it was one of the first PS2 games I actually sat down and played like crazy....so I was paying a lot of attention to everything, details, battles, evironments, all that.

Too bad she doesn't have a 360, oblivion hits in about 3 days.

Kingdom Hearts in two weeks is expected to take a minimum of 60 hours to complete. I would assume much longer if you go for everything....

We'll see...

I could imagine playing a game for 130 hours...

Disgaea can take over 100 hours to complete. How about Final Fantasy XI? She can put thousands of hours into that game as there is no ending.

This is a first for me though, I've never heard of a game that is over 60 hours long as being to short.

i suppose if you put 8-9 hours a day it'd only last a week, buy it sunday, trade it in by saturday, time flies and then your done.

you could put 80-100 hours into front mission 4 as well if you wanted to uber your dudes, and i'll second morrowind, even more so if you've got the GOTY edition.

Disgaea took me quite a while to complete. I doubt she would take 130 hours to beat it the first time. I recommend a MMORPG. Final Fantasy XI or if she's willing to use a PC, World of Warcraft.

It's going to be tough for her to find something as epic as DQVIII on the PS2. Without question, it's the pinnacle of RPG's this generation.

As far as time consuming...you can always level up your characters to 9999 in Disgaea.

Then turn them back to level 1 and relevel them, with makes them a lot stronger.

Um... OK, I am stunned. I have nothing to say about that. Other than *WOW* holy cow gee willikers that is too short?

The only thing that might come close to being long enough would be Morrowind or Oblivion from Bethesda!

Any game from atlus on the ps2 can last hundreds of hours easily. For standard RPG's though, there aren't going to be many that long.

I was actually thinking the same thing for DQ8 though, even at 100 hours, I thought it was over too soon. Not many games can say that, pure perfection.

do her a favor and buy her an MMORPG.. 50+ hours for a console rpg is probably the default timeframe.

its not a single game and its a psone title but since it will play on a PS2 consider the arc the lad collection. porting saves and similar style makes it seem like 1 really long game. with the three combined your getting about 140+ hours of playing

Grandia is quite a long game if you plan on collecting everything and maxing every attack and spell. I've got a save file with near max levelel chararcters in 90 hours.
